Classic Amish Style Macaroni Salad: Noreen's Kitchen

I'm ready I'm gonna read and welcome to,my kitchen and a new episode of what's,for dinner but this is going to go on,the side we're going to throw some pork,chops on the grill tonight that I have,marinating there right there I did those,in another video and uh last week I've,got it been just last week but I've kind,of been over the course of the time I've,been with Rick kind of developing a,macaroni salad that he really liked now,when I was growing up my mom made,macaroni salad and had macaroni and it,had salt and pepper and mayonnaise and,maybe a chopped hick that's it and,that's fine I don't care for our miracle,with a whole lot and Rick sometimes we,like to get the deli macaroni salad but,I find that it leaves that really nasty,kind of aftertaste in my mouth and I,don't like that,so I finally came up with a macaroni,salad that we all enjoy that doesn't,have Miracle Whip in it and it has the,flavors that we like it's a little bit,sweet but not too much and a little bit,tangy but not too much and it's just,creamy enough to make everybody happy,the only one in the house who won't eat,it is mica and she's a big poop head so,it doesn't matter not freak anyway it's,true so what I've done and I wanted to,show you this I've cooked two cups that,says two cups dry that I've prepared,now I'm gonna you know you want your,macaroni,to be cool you don't want to mix this,together when it's hot and now my,glasses are all futile that's quite all,right now and this my mom always did,this run your cold water and yes if you,have a spray attachment on your sink get,the cold water going,toss some ice in there and then kind of,get your hands in there and toss that,ice around now this will allow the,macaroni to cool down almost instantly,it just takes a minute or two and it,will be perfect for a macaroni salad so,we get this going and this is just a,nice little tip I know a lot of people,probably already do this but you know,what I have a lot of new homemakers I,have a lot of young cooks who email me,all the time and tell me that they,really like watching my videos and that,they've learned a lot for me and I am,very happy to know that because I think,it's important that everybody cook for,themselves no matter how simple it is,and it's very true you won't go there ok,so then really what you want to do is,you want to come through and pick out,right you know I may have put just a,little bit too much ice in there but it,doesn't matter,pick out the big chunks of ice and have,it melts it all the way down because my,macaroni just slowly cooled off and it's,not going to coat it if you leave a,piece of - air really,okay so now what I'm gonna do is I'm,gonna bring my pot over here because I,am just gonna go ahead and prepare my,macro and stuff in my pot the white,house you Bobby ah life is never boring,in my house all right now now let's make,the dressing,hmm come on we got this way we're just,gonna have to wait all right okay our,dressing first anyway,oh yeah I didn't pull these things out,and I should have you're gonna want some,mayonnaise some apple cider vinegar some,sugar and on for seasoning I'm gonna use,celery salt onion powder garlic powder,and um,celery seed not celery salt then I say,celery salt I don't even have any we,have silver salt I don't know and some,cracked black pepper,and I'm kind of bunched up over here and,I apologize for that but okay let's see,when we get a scraper one a cup of,mayonnaise now it's 2 cups of macaroni,cup of mayonnaise now again I understand,that everybody may already know how to,make macaroni salad really how hard,could it be right but I'll say it again,that I have a lot of young homemakers,just like cat's cradle did a video the,other day about cleaning your kitchen,tools and making sure that they don't,have any extra gunk on them and I have,to tell you that was an awesome video um,how many people think about that I'll,put a link to that video below here I,know it's not about macaroni salad but,nonetheless carefully using that bowl,what no I'm just using this bowl to mix,the dressing okay that's all trust me,honey it's okay let's see you've done,this I have done this before now I'm,gonna go ahead and put the macaroni in,this pot it all,grab a tablespoon just so I have,something to stir with okay and this is,one of those times where you're going to,see me measure,let's put and I I have tested this so I,know it's just right we want the,tablespoon of sugar so it's not too much,and we want two tablespoons of apple,cider vinegar and this is one of my old,olive oil bottles and because I buy my,cider vinegar and my white vinegar in,gallon sized bottles I just you can't,add some into this bottle so I could,keep it on my kitchen counter and it,works very nicely and now we're just,going to mix this up,and it will incorporate we tell it's,nice and smooth so new to this it,doesn't matter but what I'm going to do,is pick up the ball a slice it felony,book those on my toes alright now we're,going to eyeball thi

hi help from hubbas pennsylvania cooking,and we're getting into the picnic and,outdoors season so today I'm gonna bring,to you some pa Dutch Amish macaroni,salad I love this stuff and I've been,hungry for it so it seemed like now it,seemed to be the time to make it and,let's face it it's never bad any time so,this is one of the more traditional,Amish macaroni salad recipes from around,here and let's get to it so the,ingredients are pretty simple a couple,cups of macaroni a couple cups of salad,dressing and when I say salad dressing,like Miracle Whip not Mayo three,hard-boiled eggs chopped ups and diced,onions some diced peppers some diced,celery an egg for garnish later you can,also use some diced carrot and I like,dicing it pretty fine also some dill,relish some celery seeds some ground,mustard and that's some of my own ground,mustard 2 cups of one cup of sugar and a,little bit of white vinegar and we'll,put this together,so first we're gonna just turn and our,veggies then I'm gonna throw in the,salad dressing and you can make your own,homemade salad dressing,aka Miracle Whip it's not that hard I,did homemade Mayo but I can show you how,to do homemade Miracle Whip two salad,dressing if you want it does not contain,as much oil as Mayo does my dill ideal I,wish some celery seed a little bit of,vinegar my mustard home ground mustard,and sugar we're going just to make a,nice nice sauce for this to mix I'll,make sure the mustard is all evenly,incorporated in one with everything else,sugar so it's all mixed in here now,we're gonna just put it on our macaroni,and we're gonna mix this in well,I'm gonna garnish this with a,hard-boiled egg and make it look Purdy,and maybe a little paprika and then,chill it I like it nice and chilled,before serving and I let the flavours,sink in if you have their opportunity,let's sit overnight that makes it even,better the flavors go all through the,salad you know just like soups and a lot,of other things but there she is,you see what she looks like and like I,said it makes it pretty with the pepper,and the celery in there you get the,color and I'm going to get this ready to,garnish then you know then what comes,next,so there it is all ready to go,taste test time here's what it looks,like and I realize it doesn't look like,anything special but how it tastes,oh man it really hits a spot,they're so good and tangy one of the,reasons I like the Amish macaroni salad,especially maybe my homemade mustard,goggles if it's not as bland as just,being made with mayo and nothing else,has more depth of flavor has more,character I think it also dresses the,diced veggies in it better,Merdeka shoulder one,kind of chucked up back in there mmm,have you wanted to make it even prettier,put on some of my red bead eggs showed,you how to make those that makes for an,even more colorful presentation and it's,really delicious those eggs are really,delicious with the dressing that goes in,this macaroni salad so that's a super,win-win and it looks so pretty and it,looks really impressive when you take it,out places they think you spent a lot of,time on it you don't have to tell them,that you didn't so that's how I make the,PA Dutch Amish macaroni salad give it a,try,try it this summer in your cookouts and,picnics or what have you,whatever it that usually pleases,everybody most people really like it so,give it a try,like subscribe and join me next time,here in how this Pennsylvania cooking

now good good morning uh my wife has a,project for us again she wants us to,make some amish,macaroni salad and we're gonna mix we're,gonna start out by making the dressing,and we've got two cups of mayonnaise,you can use light mayonnaise if you'd,like but we used,uh just regular almonds,real mayonnaise not that fake stuff but,you can use that too if you like,okay next is a half cup of sugar,that sounds like a lot to me but,that's my boss says okay then we have,eighth of a cup of yellow mustard,if i get that out of there,oh yeah,then we have two tablespoons of dill,relish,not sweet pickled relish but dill rash,two teaspoons dough,one teaspoon white vinegar,and then we have three quarters of a,teaspoon of celery salt,and now it calls for a,quarter teaspoon of salt that will,adjust as we go along,okay now blend all this up,my wife said she's tried this and it's,quite good,i haven't tried this one yet,so i have to trust her,it looks like a good dressing,it's okay okay now we have one pound,of dried macaroni this is just elbow,macaroni,one small onion finely diced,we got uh half a bell pepper,finely diced put some color,make some color,and we have celery,this is four sticks or four partial,sticks they were kind of small,so if you had three full stitch would,probably be ideal,put some cool dressing on here,and i'm going to leave the eggs for last,here,simply because i don't want to,break them up too bad,and there's our dressing,i get my onions and bell peppers,distributed here,they're all kind of hanging out on one,side of the wall,okay now we have four,diced hard boiled eggs like i said i,didn't want to,add those until,the end of the mixing,now we'll just be gentle on these,there oh i lost one,now we're gonna put this in the fridge,and chill it,and we'll go on with another project,okay i have to try this,quite good but the,white vinegar and the onion and stuff,makes a nice contrast so yeah definitely,give this a try it's worthwhile,so you guys uh,have a great weekend and enjoy bye,you

hello and welcome to that's why we have,hot dogs in the freezer,and today i'm actually working from i,mean,a recipe not menu recipe and this is one,of mine,and this is from years ago what we're,gonna make is,amish macaroni salad and what we've got,to do,is we first have to start off with our,sauce,and our sauce is two cups of,miracle whip so we take,not sure how to do this up here we're,going to take,two cups of miracle whip,so there's two cups of miracle whip,and i tell you what i have noticed,for some reason the amish seem to like,everything,sweet all the recipes i've seen,that the amish have everything is sweet,i don't understand but we're gonna make,it anyway,so now we're calling for a quarter cup,of apple cider vinegar and i'm just,going to use my,full cup here and measure out one,quarter,put that in there,and then we need three quarters of a cup,of sugar,i've got that see i told you that i,could sweet,mix that up a little bit and then we've,got,two tablespoons of yellow mustard,so,one tablespoon and a little bit because,it's going to stick in the bottom of it,and 2 tablespoons,let me use this bowl as a catch-all,because i want to get in here with a,whisk,whisk this up,so there is our sauce,let's take and just do a pinch of salt,just because we can i'd rather salt the,sauce,than the macaroni so put a little bit of,salt,recipe calls for a teaspoon i'm going a,little light on that,after all it is my recipe and now we're,going to take this,we're going to set that to the side,and i'm going to take this,this and this and move it off out of our,way,and what i have here now is one pound,of macaroni and it's still warm,and you want it warm so to that,we're going to add half a cup of chopped,bell pepper,and a half a cup,of chopped onion,and a quarter cup of chopped celery,a half a cup of chopped carrots and if,you know your,french cooking we just added mirepoix,but mix that up a little bit,now the recipe calls,for six boiled eggs,i kind of like the boiled eggs,so what i'm going to do,have you got one of these i love this,thing,take your egg put it in there,boom sliced egg,that's one,two,three,four,five,and six okay so there's six eggs in,there let's mix that up again,break the eggs up as we're doing it,because we want there to be,pieces of egg in our macaroni salad,all right now we take our sauce,remember this is still warm and this,this helps the macaroni absorb the sauce,and,the flavors of the vegetables and,everything to meld,this is going to go in a fridge,most likely overnight i'm making this,for a picnic tomorrow,doesn't mean we can't try though right,so now mix this up one more time,and since the macaroni is warm,right now it looks a little loose,but,as it cools the macaroni is going to,take that sauce it's go,and it's going to suck that stuff right,in there and it's going to make that,macaroni just as tasty as you would oh,this beats the store-bought hands down,so i'm going to take this and i'm going,to put just a little bit,in this bowl explain what that's for in,just a minute,i'm going to take this,and this and this,and i'll be right back don't go nowhere,okay i'm back and i've got a serving,bowl,i'm going to take this now that we're,all mixed,and put this in the serving bowl,gently gently,smooth it off on top,spread that around just a little bit,put that right there,now,now what we're going to do is we're,going to take this,egg slicer again and this time we're not,going to be as fast this time,take that egg slicer and cut it like,that and catch them,because now i want to use these,as a garnish,i'm going to go around the outside just,like that,and basically i just want to get eggs,running around it and you're going to,get some that,don't have anything salt,there,now take our paprika,i like the large economy size and we're,gonna,sprinkle that around a little bit,just for looks really doesn't taste like,anything,and there we have it,our amish macaroni salad,so i've gone all that work let's taste,it and see what it's like,see if it's like i remember it's been a,while,yes it is very sweet,i'm sure once it macaroni has a chance,to cool and,suck those sauces in it'll taste even,better,but,that will definitely be good so,this is another episode of that's why we,have hot dogs in the freezer,that was the amish macaroni salad,if y'all liked this episode please like,subscribe,click on the little notification bell so,you get a notification every time i,decide to notify you about a video,coming out,we'll see you next time bye

Hi everyone welcome back to my kitchen today is the perfect day to be making this video over again today,I'm gonna share with you,How I make my really popular Amish style macaroni,Salad I've uploaded a video of this about seven years ago and people absolutely love it,I get people who tell me all the time,This is one of my regular go-to macaroni salad recipes,But that video is old and is long and is painful,So we're gonna remake it for you today,Because this is the perfect weekend,To pull out all those lovely picnic salad recipes, and I hope that you give it a try,And I can't wait to show you how this all comes together,We're gonna go over all of the ingredients some of you may already be familiar with this recipe,This is my Amish style macaroni salad I have posted this several years ago. I think I?,Think in 2011 that would make this seven year old recipe,originally posted the quality of the video is,not as nice as I would like it to have been and it's very long much longer than it needs to be and,I was just kind of haphazard in the kitchen at that point,I wasn't setting everything up, so I'm making you a nicer version today and,Hopefully you will enjoy this just as much and for those of you who might be new to my kitchen,I hope that you enjoy this recipe this is the perfect,weekend being Easter weekend for a great macaroni salad recipe,We're gonna start with 4 cups of cooked macaroni. This is elbow macaroni,You can really use whatever small cut macaroni you prefer,And then we're going to move on to our vegetables. I have 1/2 a cup each of chopped celery,chopped sweet onion chopped green bell pepper chopped red bell pepper I,Have two hard cooked eggs that I chopped as well. I have one cup of good-quality mayonnaise a,tablespoon of granulated sugar 2,Tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and then our seasonings I have a half a teaspoon each onion powder garlic,Powder salt pepper and celery seed you can adjust that to your liking whatever you prefer,Then you can just go with it,I'm gonna go ahead and just kind of dump all of our veggies in here, and then we'll build our dressing,so celery,red and green bell pepper,Onion our chopped egg, and I'll just set this aside now for the dressing,I'm just gonna go ahead and put all of these ingredients in here sugar,Cider vinegar you can adjust this to your liking as far as sweetness goes and add either more or less sugar,It's up to you, and then our seasonings,Everything goes in there, and we're just gonna give this a good whisk and that's it,This is not as thin as a coleslaw dressing,you need it to be a little bit thicker because you have to remember all of these veggies and this wet macaroni,Are going to actually add some water into this all we're gonna,Do is take this dressing and pour it over all this in the bowl, and then we're just gonna stir this up together. welcome back I've been busy today,getting ingredients ready to prepare,deluxe macaroni salad found on my,website I missed recipe box calm we're,gonna start unfortunately i'm making a,double dose here because I'm taking it,to work with me so the Bulls I've down,aren't quite big enough and I apologize,I'm going to use this I realize you,can't see as well but we're going to,have to use this because it's going to,be quite a sizable amount anyway we,finished dicing up the eggs here real,quick and a couple more stalks of celery,and we should be ready to start mixing,alright then I've already cooked one,pound of macaroni and dream it we'll go,ahead and add that to our big mixing,bowl,and I'm doubling the recipe so if the,numbers don't sound right from what,you're seeing on the website it's,because I've doubled it I'm using six,tablespoons of chopped onion and two,cups of peas instead of five of course,it'll be ten diced boiled eggs,hard-boiled eggs two cups of chopped,celery two cups of diced ham and let mix,that up a little bit,okay we're going to set that to the side,and this bowl we're going to use one and,a half cups of salad dressing 2,tablespoons of mustard,three teaspoons of white vinegar,where's missiles there we are and about,a teaspoon of salt do milk four,tablespoons of milk and one and a half,cups of sugar yes we'll make our,dressing,okay we've got the dressing well blended,go ahead add it to her macaroni,and blend us well,I found that the macaroni salad and my,potato salads tastes better if you let,them sit overnight in the refrigerator,they firm up a little bit and it just,seemed to have a better flavor,okay,there you have it put that in the fridge,overnight and we've got a meal I'll be,back oops,told you I be back,I forgot the cheese so you dumped your,macaroni back into the big black pot you,get a pink casserole dish I'm gonna,blend in about one and a half cups of,Colby jack cheese,okay now we're ready,and once again our macaroni salad is,ready to refrigerate overnight we're,done now thank you
