Dutch cucumber salad

hello everybody welcome back to my,channel today i'm going to make a dutch, cucumber salad um my mom used to make, this and i,have such good memories of it,so all you're going to need is,i have a gorgeous cucumber here, okay a lot of times you use red onion, today i'm going to use a sweet white, onion so your preference, you're going to need some salt some, water a bowl, and vinegar, okay and that's going to be everything,so the first thing we're going to do,is we're going to cut the cucumber, nice and thin, okay, see just like this, nice and thin, okay and just throw it in the bowl so,we're gonna keep going, and i'll come back and we'll start with, the onion, okay so the cucumber is all cut, next we're gonna do the onion this is a,fairly large white sweet onion so i'm,gonna use about half,so let's just peel the ends off, okay we're going to take off that skin, there we go,okay i'm going to cut it in half because,i'm going to use half i'm going to save, the half for something else, all right now you can make it into, smaller onion slices or longer i like, them a little bit longer so we're going,to do the same thing as we did with the, cucumber,we're going to cut it nice and thin see, just like this, okay break it up,and throw it right into your bowl, and we're going to continue doing that, until that's done, the cucumbers and onions are cut, there you go that's what they look like, all right and now i'm going to throw in,a quarter cup of water, one full cup of vinegar,a teaspoon of salt, now if you like it a little sweeter, you'll go three tablespoons of sugar i'm,gonna do two,it's again it's your preference okay,i like it more zippy and not too sweet, there we go,and we're just gonna mix this up,now for your best results you're gonna, leave it in the fridge at least, overnight okay so it soaks up all the, flavors and then we will come back, tomorrow and we're going to serve some,of this gorgeous cucumber salad up,i'll see you then, okay it's the next, day and there it is i'm going to try one, right now, that's where my son's watching tv,mmm that is so good that is lekker,if you haven't had this before you need,to try it it's fantastic i love it,and this is how i make it so um,if you like what you saw don't forget to,subscribe no hit the notification bell, and come back and see me again, alright thank you for watching

PA DUTCH Creamy Cucumber Salad in Jo Ellen's Kitchen 6 30 21

PA DUTCH Creamy Cucumber Salad in Jo Ellen's Kitchen 6 30 21

hello and welcome back to joellen's,kitchen, today we're going to make a fairly, simple recipe, and that is cucumber salad we want to,start with three, smaller cucumbers they don't have to be,you know huge ones they can get really, big and i'm going to start by,cutting off both ends, and then what i like to do as i have, this old-fashioned potato, peeler some people will peel the entire, cucumber, and others like i like to do,will more or less create stripes with it,maybe an inch apart or half an inch, apart however many you want to do,because when you cut that first of all, there is protein and nutrients in the, shell, that i don't like the waste but also, when you,are looking at it that dark green gives,it a really nice, little texture and eye appeal if you, will, and so i like to leave some of the shell,on and i think you'll be able to see, what i'm talking about, the inside is white and then there's,little stripes on the outside of each, piece,so that it can be just a little visually, appealing, but you're going to throw those into, your bowl because you're going to need, two bowls to start, and what i like to do,is first thing get this cucumber cut,and we're going to be making all three, but so you don't have to sit here and, watch me cut three i'm just going to do,this part now,um we're going to set that in front here,so you can see,and then what we want to do is get a,teaspoon of salt,in our hand or in a teaspoon measuring, spoon and sprinkle that over, the cucumber it might seem like a lot,but here's what we're going to do,we're going to pour ice water on top,of this and let it soak now what that's,going to do is two things, with the water there the salt is going,to dissolve a little bit and it's going,to soak, into the cucumbers and the ice is going,to help make them crispy,so while i do the rest of it i'm just, going to set that aside, and we'll keep going,in the other bowl what we want to do is,prepare,a a small to medium onion, and in this instance i like to cut the, onions, very thin thinner than most times when i,use onions and i don't use, onions often i got to admit,so here we go the shell's a little thin,on this it's hard to pull off but we'll,get there, okay just start slicing your onion and, make it as thin as you can,in slices um it tastes,uh it just with the bigger pieces of,cucumbers the thinner pieces of onion, let your mouth know what you're eating,on,if you tend to tear up a lot from onions, you might want to run it under cold, water, that also helps when you're working with,an onion to keep your eyes from tearing,up,this one doesn't seem too terribly, strong but once you get your, onion sliced you want to make sure all,the rings are separated,at least on the bigger pieces and the, rest will probably fall apart when you, tumble it you don't really have to,separate the ones that are thinner but, that big one i wanted to make sure, but get your onion in there, and the other thing you need,is one half cup of sour cream and this, happens to be eight ounces,so i don't have to go any further than,to put the whole, cup in here people i know substitute, miracle whip for the sour cream because,i don't like sour cream,it's your recipe you do with it what you, want, but one of the things that i like to do,i want to put in half of a teaspoon,of dill seed and sprinkle that in there, and, there's a couple of options actually oh,my eyes are watering from the onion i'm,sorry, excuse me about that and i also want to,put in half a teaspoon of celery seed,uh i like celery seed i think i just, think celery gives things such a great, flavor but,i don't have any today i couldn't find, any in a store that i went to,so something you can add because i,really like it but you don't have to,at any rate that's something,it's chives now when i go to wendy's i,always get sour cream and chives,on my potatoes so i like those little, chives and,if i had them i'd put them in here we,also want to add,one just one tablespoon of sugar there's,not a lot of sugar in this, some of the things we make have a lot of,sugar, and we also want two tablespoons of the, white vinegar,i get big jugs vinegar because i use it,a lot,for cleaning as well as cooking actually, there we go and we just want to mix that, all together, make it creamy and ready for that, those cucumbers, okay i'm going to take my strainer and, strain the ice and the water off of my,cucumbers, you can really let it set an hour or two,and they'll get much crisper but tonight,i'm just gonna make it,okay i drained my cucumbers, and they're good and cold,i'm going to put them on a,paper towel and make sure they blot dry,on both sides, drop them into my sauce now once i don't,have so many i can, flip the outer edge over and block them, that way, maybe do a few more at a time, there's also just a sugar and vinegar, dressing that you can put on the, cucumber salad, but this is um probably i don't know, they're both popular but the one way to,make, the cucumber salad so again you just put, them in there, and mix it all together, and voila what we have is,

The Best Cucumber Summer Salads - Sour Cream and Dill or Cucumber Vinaigrette

The Best Cucumber Summer Salads - Sour Cream and Dill or Cucumber Vinaigrette

i don't know if there's any salad that, says summer more than a simple cucumber, salad the flavors of dill and onion join, the cucumbers in two different versions, one is a crisp and bright vinaigrette, while the other uses sour cream to make,a rich and elegant side dish,hi everyone welcome to today's episode,of let's celebrate tv i'm your host, peter lee today our celebration is all, about a salad actually two salads we're,making cucumber summer salads so let's,get started, our first,i'm gonna make a cucumber salad with, vinaigrette, now this starts with you guessed it,cucumbers,i have here three large cucumbers these, are the english cucumbers, and i,slice them on a mandolin very thinly so,i get even, slices now first thing is why english, cucumbers i like them better because you, don't have to peel them the skin is nice, and thin and the seeds are very small, sometimes called seedless, and they're easier to digest they just, have a sweeter nicer flavor, now slices on a mandolin, and i'll leave a link in our, comments section so you can watch that, video on how to safely use a mandolin,it's one of our most popular things now,if you don't have a mandolin you can do,this with a knife but i have one so i,use this i'm going to put this in a nice, big bowl, every last little guy in there, next up is onion,i have a medium red onion red onion is a,little sweeter than regular, and i slice it as thinly as i could, and put this right in,next is one of my favorite herbs ever, and is very bountiful this time of year, and that is fresh dill,i have a half a cup which is weighs out,to about 15 grams of chopped fresh dill, now if you can't get it you can use, dried and you're going to want to use, about two tablespoons, right in,now for the vinaigrette we're going to,start with some vinegar,i like red wine vinegar for this,i've got two thirds of a cup or 160 ml,of red wine vinegar, this is very easy, pour it right in olive oil,my favorite kind use your favorite kind, third of a cup or 80 mls, more vinegar than oil,all right in now i want to round out, that acid,so i have a healthy healthy pinch of,just white sugar, sprinkle that in it's not going to make,it sweet but it's going to tone down the, vinegar just that little bit that you, need, and of course, some salt and pepper, good pinch, bring all these flavors, together and grinding and pepper, lovely, now just want to mix this, mix it well,it's very pretty all these colors, the red onion, the green dill against the white, cucumbers, all right, now that, this is going to go into, the fridge i'm going to put it,plastic wrap over it and i'm going to,pop it in the fridge for two to four, hours, maybe overnight would be even better, but right now needs a little rest time,in the fridge so off to the fridge while, our salad with vinaigrette is chilling, let's make another version of my,cucumber salad this time we're going to,make it with sour cream, and it's,richer creamier but has all the same, flavors, now we're going to start with the same, way i've got three english cucumbers and,i just slice and thin on my mandolin,we're going to put these aside for a,moment because we want to build the, dressing for it first, first we're going to start with the dill,my favorite, here we are it's the same amount half a,cup or about 15 grams of chopped fresh, dill,in this case if you were using dried, you'd want to use about two tablespoons,to that,we're going to add, sour cream this is eight ounces 250,grams of sour cream, right in,and we're building this first because we,want all these flavors,to come together before we add our, vegetables to it,next up is milk plain old milk,i have just one ounce or 30 mls of milk, now that's going to loosen up that sour, cream it's going to make it easier to,mix, and it's just going to help pull it all, together, next,a little surprise for you,the juice of half a lemon, always use fresh lemon, and i'm using lemon because it's going,to add a little more acid a little tang, and again the liquid from the juice will, help keep this nice and loose and help,it tenderize and marinade into the, cucumbers and onions,so right in,and of course, some salt and pepper, just a little bit, maybe a little more, all right we're going to whisk this to,combine, just takes a moment, that dill i can smell it,now you can see this has gotten a lot, looser so that will help it mixing and, cubes a lot better, all right now, here's time for the cucumbers we're,going to pour these right in,and of course, one, medium red onion sliced nice and thin, okay, and we're going to mix this all up,this may take a little more mixing than, the other one did,but have a little patience, all right we're nice and mixed up now, just like before i'm gonna put some, plastic wrap on this i'm gonna pop it in,the fridge for about two to four hours, now while these are chilling,i'm gonna go have a little glass of wine, and relax,so i'll see you and then we'll do the, tasting, here we are we are out of the fridge,it's been about three hours so i,brought them out look how glorious they, are, our first one,is

Cook with me - Southern Barbeque (sloppy joe), Cucumber Salad and Amish Potato Salad

Cook with me - Southern Barbeque (sloppy joe), Cucumber Salad and Amish Potato Salad

my kitty cats so I wanted to make a,little cooking video for you today I,started to film and then something, happened to the camera so what I'm,making today is I'm making my mother's I,lost a nail too by the way right off Dan,Paulie Joe anyway, making my mother's recipe for cucumber, salad and I am making my southern, barbecue I guess you guys call it sloppy, joe so that's what I'm making today and, then we're going to have some how much, potato salad with it I'm not making me,how much potato salad today because I,just don't have enough time but if,that's something you guys were be,interested in that recipe let me know, and I'll make a separate video now the, camera shut off but I have my cucumber, sliced two large cucumbers I think we,all know how to slice cucumbers and then,I'm going to put some onion in there and,now I I'm not great at shopping as you,can see but we're going to give it a,shot so we're just going to go ahead and, just coarsely chop the onion doesn't,have to be finely chopped or perfect, squares or anything sometimes I just, slice it long ways and just put, those pieces in but since I have trouble, queuing I'm going to try to cut them, smaller so we're just gonna go ahead and,I think maybe I think maybe I'll do one, more onion and throw in there and so I'm,gonna go ahead and drop that and to save,a little bit of my battery I'll be right, back so there we go we've got the second, half of our large onion coarsely chopped, into chunks throw that into the bowl, onions come to the party okay now if,you're triggered by hands you might want,to turn the video off now because this, recipe is very handsy okay,so and I did wash my hands before I,started so I don't want to trigger, anybody with that okay so that's that, and I have to go get something out of,the pantry and I'll be right back so,next we're going to add some vinegar, choose the cucumber's now you can use, white vinegar you can use apple cider, vinegar or whatever her taste is but you, want to just give it,splash I don't measure anything guys so,you just give it a good splash now, here's where if your trigger don't watch,so what you want to do is you want to,get in there and just squish with your, hands squish that vinegar right into, those cucumbers get the cucumber's nice, and soft, okay work that in now I put enough, vinegar in there to really squish around, you might not have to use as much as I,did but I like to get in there and just, really squish around so there you go,gonna make all the cucumber's nice and, saturated with that vinegar and squished,up hey all right, that's about right now there is a lot of,vinegar left in here so whatever I put,in there that's that's over what I need, that's too much then I just I just pour, out, okay so that's what you should have, there all right now the next thing, coming to the stage is mayonnaise now if,you listen to my mother and my,grandmother the only man is you should, ever ever ever use is Hellmann's and, quite frankly I agree Hellmann's is the, best mayonnaise for any recipe you all, right I'm going to use a spatula because,I can't find my spoon, okay so you want to go ahead I want to,do this so you can see it though my,camera angle is kind of weird what you, want to go ahead and you want to scoop, some mayonnaise in there and again you,can do this to taste I like it very very, creamy so I put a lot of mayonnaise in,there but you just start stirring it up,and putting it in there until you get it,the consistency I'm actually gonna put a,little bit more in there guys like I,said I like it very man easy very creamy, okay and then you can salt and pepper, this to taste as well but this is,basically it guys, this is basically the cucumber salad now, what I do want to do yes I do want to,give it a taste test, anything I need was my prepared now I do,want to give it a little taste test now, because some people like liked it very, vinegary some people don't,okay now see that for me is perfect if,it - if you taste tested - vinegary for,you you can give it a little sprinkle of,sugar, and that will cut the vinegar okay so,what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna put this,in the refrigerator because I like it,nice and cold that's why I make this, first and we're gonna go ahead and get, started on the barbecue okay be right, back so we're back and what we're going,to do next is we're going to start on,the barbecue so what you need is a nice, big pot and I'm already chopped some, onions a second onion four large onion, and I am going to go ahead and excuse me,because I'm kind of a messy cook I want,to go ahead and put the heat on medium, high, and you're gonna go ahead and put a,little bit of extra-virgin olive oil in,there not a whole lot but just maybe a,little splash like that okay so once you, have your evo in there what you're going,to need for this recipe is ground beef, which have over here some ketchup any, brand that you like you're going to need, some barbecue sauce again any brand or,flavor that you like Hickory and honey, brown sugar is just what Tony picked up,today I

Weight Watchers Daily Food Vlog - Amish Cucumber Salad Recipe

Weight Watchers Daily Food Vlog - Amish Cucumber Salad Recipe

hey guys it's me it is um not dinner, time I was that's a dinner time,I'm making I'm making a recipe video, this is gonna be the world's shortest, recipe video because someone had asked, for the recipe how to make the humor, salad that I've been eating it's my,great grandma's recipe my great grandma,um it's from Amish country in Ohio it's,probably the same cucumber salad recipe, that everyone's grandma made but um this,is my grandma's so what you need vinegar, you can use any kind of vinegar,I like episode of vinegar we usually buy,it by the gallon we were out so Marty, called that um sugar cucumbers onions, and water that's it salt and pepper if,you want sometimes I do sometimes I,don't it is the easiest recipe that's,not a recipe it's equal parts vinegar, sugar and water now for two cucumbers, and a big onion I usually start with 1/2,a cup of each and see how it goes you, want to have enough liquid so that your, cucumbers and your onions are covered, because you want to,they don't really pickle but you want, you know you want them to be covered so,now let me show you let's see if I can, handle it one-handed I like them really, thin let's see I do as I say not as I do,always use the guard ok let's see if I,can get it easier to see I like it,thin um just because it that way I don't,have to let it marinate for a long time,I'm super impatient my mom likes it,thick my mom also likes to let it sit in,the refrigerator overnight so that I,don't know if that has anything to do,this so what I'm gonna do is I'm to,slice the cucumber's I'm gonna slice the, onions and then I'm going to mix them in,here well first I'm gonna mix the oil in,live it are the water in the vinegar, with this until the sugar is dissolved, and then we throw the sliced cucumbers, and onions in,and see if it's enough if not I will, probably go ahead and do another half, cup of each I count it roughly I count,it as a point per serving unless I have, like a giant bowl the reason that I,count it as a point is there is sugar in,it,however I don't drink the liquid so what,I make just a single serving for myself,I usually use two tablespoons of each, and then I will come that as a point, because I'm not you know like I said I'm,not drinking the liquid so but there is,sugar in it and so I count it toh all, right let me slice this and get this, mixed and then I'll bring you back and, show you what it looks like right, hey guys it's me I ended up making more, which I figured I would have to you can,see um I wanted to show you see how it's,not quite all covered but my hands are, clean I swear um but uh it's okay, because as the cucumber's uh soften a,little bit you know they'll they'll,break down and not break down but, they'll soften and it'll all be cover, him so um,the ratio is equal parts water vinegar,of any kind and sugar I have used,Splenda if you're going to try it start, with half of the amount of sugar that, you plan to use like if you use a cup,use half sugar and half Splenda and try, that and see how you like it so as long,as you keep the ratio good though have, our equal parts and then you know have,it covered or just about covered like, this you can't go wrong so all right I,will see you guys later, fight

2 Favorite Cucumber Salad Recipes | Ingrid's German Cucumber Salad & Dill and Vinegar Cucumber Salad

2 Favorite Cucumber Salad Recipes | Ingrid's German Cucumber Salad & Dill and Vinegar Cucumber Salad

hey everybody in this video I want to,share with you my two most favorite, cucumber recipes my mom made for me as a,kid I think you're gonna like him on,this episode of kitchen dad's were doing,a German cucumber salad great way to use,up all those two summer cucumbers stay, tuned hi I'm cliff and welcome to,kitchen dad's we're all about fun and, food and family we make a lot of food, that's good for your soul and food, that's good for your body and a whole, bunch that's in-between,so growing up we had a couple different, cucumber salads my mom was German she, made two salads that I really like she, made for me I want to show those for you,I've made one already in kitchen dad's,it's just a it's a cucumber salad with, with vinegar and onions check it out,it's really great, this one is a it's a German version it's,very similar but has little sour creams, fee other things it's simple you got a,lot of those summer cucumbers because, you know when it when it's when it's,time in the summer, cucumbers explode you trying to find, ways to use them and actually you know, what the cucumbers are great any time so,what we have here is we have we're gonna, use two cucumbers and I cut one up,already again for those of you we want,to peel this one some recipes you don't,need to peel the cucumbers this one we,do we don't want the green on the, outside all right repealed our cucumbers,if you don't get it all up don't worry,it add a little color all right now we,need to slice the cucumber's you can do,this with a knife very slowly we want, very thin slices of cucumbers are, probably like eight inch if you have a,little mandolin that's great I have one, here that's probably like 50 years old,it's pretty cool you can just go through, and slice those cucumbers make, adjustments that's nice thin enough, all right so we've sliced up our, cucumbers ideally you can put a little, salt on them to help to draw some of the, moisture you can pour that out we're,gonna take a bowl and put our cucumbers,in there we are gonna add in half of an,onion we've sliced it very very thin all, right you're gonna have F of onion, onions are optional it does add a nice, nice little crunch to the salad look a,nice onion taste complements the, cucumber's well we have two teaspoons of,white vinegar we have a sugar substitute, you can put in the two teaspoons of,sugar we're using stevia as a substitute, all right we have a pinch of salt, because remember we've salted the, cucumber's already again so we don't,need to add that much more salt we have,a half a cup of sour cream this is full, fat sour cream if you want to use light, that's fine and then we have some dill,we have a knife we're going to put in,about two two tablespoons of dill I like,a lot of dill I usually put a little bit, more in do it to your taste reminds me,of summer and at that point we're gonna, just mix this up it's best to let this, salad sit a little bit the cucumbers are, gonna release a little bit more of their, moisture it's gonna help thin out the, sour cream if you do let it sit just, give it another stir or another mix, before you serve it,a little bit,all right let's give this a little shot, some onion cucumber mm-hmm such a great, balance between the sweet and the sour, and the crunchy the dill it's uh was one,of my favorites and I hope it becomes, one of your favorites give it a shot,it's Ingrid's German cucumber salad hi,in this episode of kitchen dads we're,talking cucumbers we're gonna make a,great cucumber salad with onions and, dill it's simple it's easy, stay tuned for Cliffs cucumber salad, hey cucumbers in season you know there's,always a ton of them but cucumbers are, great they're inexpensive they're,healthy and they're nutritious I'm,always trying to find a way to get, cucumbers into a recipe that my family, would like this one we used to make when,I was a kid it's really simple we're,just using cucumbers some onion some, dill little al a little oil and vinegar, salt and that's it so let's get to it,first we need is a cucumber just one, medium cucumber is fine this one you, would want to peel this recipe we,specifically want to peel off the, cucumber skin I guess I wouldn't get, prizes if we were trying to get the, cucumber skin in the bowl huh all right,so we're gonna chop up the cucumber,we're looking for slices that are, probably oh maybe a quarter-inch about, this thick all right so let's just chop,up the cucumber and remember when you're,chopping it it isn't a race you'd rather, have your fingers then be able to chop, really fast right now we're going to use, some onion we only want about a quarter,of a medium size onion about the size of,a baseball we want a little bit onion to,accentuate and bring some current, additional crunch and flavor to the, salad but we want too much so we've got,a quarter of onion here and we're going,to just go ahead and cut this up,it's okay if you have somewhat larger, size chunks we don't mince onion we want, some some chunks that you can sink your, teeth into this is a healthy salad,it's all raw all r
