Grandma's Ambrosia Salad

Today on The Stay At Home Chef,I'm showing you how to make Grandma's Ambrosia Salad.,In Greek mythology, the food that the gods eat was called ambrosia.,This recipe dates back to the late 1800s and was popularized in the United States in the 1920s.,It uses exotic, tropical ingredients,,so they called it ambrosia salad because it's supposed to be the food of the gods.,Which fruits you use depends on personal taste preferences,,but pineapple is a staple, and you can use either canned or fresh,,same with mandarin oranges,,you can use canned or fresh.,Another popular addition is bananas,,maraschino cherries are always a popular option,,but I actually like to use strawberries instead.,Last but not least, shredded coconut is a must,,and you can shred your own fresh coconut, or you can use the unsweetened or sweetened coconut flakes. ,I'm going to go with fresh fruit today,,but if you use canned there's no judgement from me,,whatever is easiest for you. ,I'm going to start by dicing up my pineapple real quick,,you're looking for about 1 1/2 cups of either fresh or canned pineapple,,and if it's canned make sure that you drain it.,Then you'll want 1 - 1 1/2 cups of mandarin oranges,,then I'll slice in 2 bananas,,then I add in 1 whole pound of either sliced or diced strawberries,,you want to make sure they're bite sized pieces.,So how you cut your strawberries kind of depends on the size of your strawberries.,Mine were on the small end.,Or you can use 10 ounces of drained maraschino cherries.,Or really you could use both the cherries and the strawberries,,I'm just a strawberry person myself.,Next you'll want to juice a lemon, you'll need 1/4 cup of lemon juice,,pour this over the fruit,,this will add a little brightness of flavor, but also prevent oxidation,,which is what will turn your fruit brown.,Then I'm gonna add in 1 cup of shredded coconut flakes,,and give this a quick toss to kind of spread things out and cover all of that fruit with lemon juice.,Now miniature marshmallows were not a part of the original recipe,,but it has become an absolute staple.,And not just any miniature marshmallows.,You want the colored, fruit flavored ones,,and you'll need about 1 1/2 cups total.,Set that bowl aside for a second and grab another mixing bowl, ,and we're gonna whip some cream.,You'll need 1 cup of either heavy cream or whipping cream,,and then you can use a hand mixer to beat this until it reaches soft peaks. ,Add in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract along the way.,By soft peaks I mean that it kind of looks like it's whipped cream,,but if you pull it up it's not quite stiff there and the peaks will collapse upon themselves.,We're gonna keep on whipping this and start adding in 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar.,Once you get all of that in there you'll also want to add in 2 teaspoons of corn starch gradually,,and this will help stabilize our whipped cream.,Keep on whipping this until you have stiff peaks where the whipped cream can hold its shape.,Last you'll add in 1/2 cup of either plain or vanilla yogurt,,you can use regular yogurt or greek yogurt,,and fold that in with your whipped cream.,All that's left to do is transfer this into our bowl with our fruit,,and fold this all in,,and you want to fold gently so you don't destroy your bananas.,And you just give it a stir until everything is evenly mixed in.,You can serve this right away,,but it is a little better if you let it chill in the fridge for about an hour before serving.,This should stay good in the fridge for somewhere between 48 -72 hours.,It kind of depends on the fruit that you used and when that might go bad,,as well as the whipped cream.,It will eventually deflate.,Thanks for watching.,You can find the full written recipe in the video description.,Be sure to subscribe, like, and follow, and check out the rest of my videos,,where you can find hundreds of restaurant quality recipes,you can easily make at home.,We'll see you later.

Hey everyone. It's Sam here from Sugar Spun Run and today I want to show you how I make my favorite ambrosia salad.,Honestly growing up I used to hate ambrosia salad something about those desert salads just never quite,seemed to write to me. I don't know maybe it's because I expect a salad to be green.,Anyway, now that I've gotten older I've learned I actually really like ambrosia,salad but only if it's made a certain way. See most salads, most of these,old-fashioned salads use Cool Whip for their base, and as you might know I'm not,a fan of using Cool Whip. I like to make my whipped cream completely from scratch,,and I have found that when you do that and pair it with ambrosia salad it takes,this desert to a whole new level. Today I'm really excited to show you how I,make this recipe. It's gonna be super quick so let's get started. Now the first,thing you're going to need is a clean a glass bowl.,We're going to use this bowl to make our homemade whipped cream. That's just three simple ingredients.,We're going to start with a 3/4 cup of cold heavy cream.,and we'll add 1/4 cup of powdered sugar.,And just 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract.,Now for this step you're going to need to use an electric mixer because we're going to be beating,our cream until we get stiff peaks. You could do this by hand but you are going,to get quite an arm workout if you do it that way and it's going to take a long,time so I'm just going to use my electric mixer.,After about a minute or so of mixing your whipped cream mixture should,resemble Cool Whip, except it's gonna taste a lot better. It should be really,thick. It shouldn't be runny. This is exactly how you want it to look before,you proceed. Now we're going to be adding 1/2 cup of sour cream to the whipped,cream for a little depth of flavor. This is what really makes your ambrosia salad,taste good without being too sweet. So I'm just gonna stir this in with the whipped cream.,I just want to mix everything together until the whipped cream and the sour cream are nicely combined.,So believe it or not, at this point, all of the hard work is really done. All that's left to,do now is just assemble your ambrosia salad. You're going to want to grab a,large bowl and this is where we're going to combine all our ingredients.,We'll start with 4 cups of mini marshmallows and you can absolutely use,plain white regular marshmallows mini marshmallows, but I often like to use,those fruit rainbow-colored ones. it just adds some really nice tropical extra flavor to the salad.,We'll also be adding one and a half cups of sweetened shredded coconut.,And now we'll be adding our fruit. So the first fruit you'll need,is an 11 ounce can of mandarin oranges. And you want this to be really well,drained. We're gonna add these and with our coconut and our marshmallows, and,we're also going to be adding an 8 ounce can of pineapple tidbits. Again you want this to be really well drained.,Finally you want to add 3/4 cup of,maraschino cherries. Make sure you remove the stems, and again of course you're,going to want these to also be well drained.,All that's left to add now is our whipped cream mixture. So I'm just gonna spoon this into the bowl.,So you can see why I recommend using a really large bowl.,And you'll just want to stir everything together. I like to use my spatula to do this until,everything is well combined and well coated with that sour cream, whipped cream mixture.,Now, ideally, if you're serving ambrosia salad for a party what,you'll want to do is you'll want to cover it with plastic wrap. Stick it in,the freezer, and let it set for at least an hour before serving. That's going to,really help soften up your marshmallows. It's gonna help the flavors really meld,together. So that is what I recommend, however, I don't feel like waiting an,hour right now to try this, and I feel like you don't feel like waiting an hour,just to sit there and wait for me to try it. So we're gonna go ahead and dig in right now.,So that's really all there is to making ambrosia salad. I'd call it a,classic ambrosia salad except, as I mentioned, we are making a much better,salad dressing by using homemade whipped cream instead of Cool Whip. I really hope,you guys will try this one out. It's great for the summer but it's also,really popular around the holidays. foreign,hey guys deronda here with Foods 101 today I'm  going to show you how to make this cranberry  ,salad the holidays are right around the corner so  I'm giving you a heads up on how to make this side  ,dish or you can even serve it as a dessert  the ingredient you're going to need is a 12  ,ounce bag of whole fresh cranberries I've rinsed  these under cool running tap water I've dried them  ,completely and if you don't want to use whole  fresh cranberries go ahead and use frozen and  ,make sure they're thawed you're going to need a 20  ounce can of crushed pineapples and we're going to  ,drain this I'll show you how to do that later one  cup of heavy whipping cream a half a cup of sugar  ,you may add more sugar or less sugar I'm going  to leave that up to you one half cup of chopped  ,walnuts or you can substitute with pecans and  if you want if you've got nut allergies you can  ,leave the nuts out all together and two cups of  miniature marshmallows all right first we're going  ,to drain the juice off of our crushed pineapples  I've got a sieve here that I've added to a bow you  ,want to make sure there's enough room between the  sieve and the bottom of the bow to catch all your  ,juice in your crushed pineapple we're going  to sit this off to the side and let it drain  ,add your cranberries into a food processor  all at once we're looking for a course chop,you don't want to puree on it  you just want a coarsely Chopper,let's see what this looks like oh that smells so  delicious that's the texture you're looking for  ,add your chopped cranberries into a large mixing  bowl along with your drained crushed pineapple  ,see all that liquid there in the bottom that came  off your pineapple make sure this Mash any liquid  ,that's in here out of our crushed pineapple  because you don't want your ambrosia salad  ,soggy and wet and then we can add this right in  with your cranberries add your half cup of sugar  ,if you want to add more or less you be my guest  or if you want to substitute with an artificial  ,sugar you can do that too I wouldn't know the  portions on it but if you'd like to try please  ,share your results with all of us and then we're  going to give this a lovely little stirring until  ,we have our cranberries well blended into our  pineapple and our sugar that looks just the way  ,we need it to look give it a little tap settle it  into the bottom cover with plastic wrap or if you  ,have a lid or a top for your bow and we're going  to refrigerate this for one hour or overnight  ,I've had my cranberries and pineapples with sugar  chilling in the refrigerator for about two hours  ,and I also added my heavy whipping cream back  in the refrigerator because you want to keep it  ,well chilled before mixing we're going to beat  this on medium for about two minutes until it's  ,nice and fluffy foreign this took about three  minutes as you can see how it sticks there on  ,your beaters that's what you're looking for if you  over whip it your liquid is going to separate from  ,the fat and you're going to end up having butter  but there's nothing better than this beautiful  ,whipped whipping cream back with our chilled  cranberries and pineapples we're gonna add the  ,marshmallows along oh look at that fresh whipped  cream this is going to be absolutely fabulous now  ,you're going to add these marshmallows and the  whipping cream about three hours before you serve  ,your salad or you can even use it as a dessert  is so festive for the Thanksgiving and Christmas  ,season everyone absolutely loves it and if you're  adding nuts you may at this time I add a little  ,bit for the topping and I'll show you how to do  that here in a little bit just keep folding it  ,in and until you have all your ingredients well  Incorporated now those colors and that light pink  ,that came from the hue of the cranberry is just  absolutely beautiful I love it and the texture  ,is fantastic add this into our serving dish all  at once mmm it's gonna make a big heaping Mound  ,wiggle it around until you get an even layer and  for the top I just like to take whole walnuts  ,since that's what I'm using here in our salad  if you'd like to substitute with pecan you'd be  ,my guess I like to add a little cranberry there  to the center and around the edge like this and  ,then we've got this lovely beautiful holiday  salad or you can serve it any day of the year  ,lightly cover it and we're going to chill it  in the refrigerator until ready to serve about  ,two to four hours so off to the refrigerator I've  had this chilling for about an hour just gonna go  ,in here and then formally give it a try oh it's  going to be so light and so delicious let's see  ,um wow the pineapple those roughly chopped hello welcome to easy eatery this is,angela,and today we are gonna make a super,simple ambrosia,salad,this is a really simple salad you guys,all you need is some marshmallows,some pineapple chunks some mandarin,oranges i'm going to use fruit cocktail,and some cool whip and maracino cherries,greek yogurt,and some coconut and those are our,ingredients,so you're going to want to strain out,all of your juices and from the cans of,fruit,or you can use fresh fruit too it's just,so much easier if you just,get it from the can because it all,tastes the same and um,i'm going to use a typical ambrosia,salad is just pineapple and,mandarin oranges but i'm going to use my,fruit,cocktail in there because i can't find,those cute little,marshmallows the flavorful ones you know,with all the different colors,and go ahead and add in our greek yogurt,which is basically sour cream if you,can't find greek yogurt plain,plain greek yogurt and um also two,heaping tablespoons of,the um the whipped cream and just gonna,go ahead and mix that all about so it's,about a third of a cup of the greek,yogurt in about,about a cup and a half of the cool whip,mix it up kind of gently because you,don't want it to be breaking all over,the place,so at this point we're going to go ahead,and take some of our marshmallows like i,said,i couldn't find the little colorful ones,so i'm going to use the white,marshmallows which i can use in so many,other dishes and i will show you that as,well,and let's just go ahead and mix that all,in there together,gotta add in those marachino cherries,because oh my gosh,they're so good and i know they're not,really good for you but they sure do,taste good,most people have them up but um i kind,of like them whole,so some people don't like them some,people do um,anyways so you can just pick them out,easily now i did tell you my,family's a little bit on the picky side,so i'm gonna go ahead and make,two this one is completely done so i'm,just gonna go ahead and put this in a,second bowl,and we're just going to go ahead and add,in our coconuts into the next bowl,so just grab our coconut grab it i'm,sorry my,it's a little not i didn't really record,this properly i apologize for that,but um anyway so literally i just dumped,some handfuls of the sweetened coconut,in there,and we're just gonna go ahead and mix,that up,and voila we made ambrosia salad oh my,gosh this is so delicious,i like it with the greek yogurt but of,course you can use the,sour cream as well it tastes literally,just the same,and this is absolutely delicious i'm,telling you,this has been a staple in our family for,so long we always bring this to all of,our occasions it's typically used for,like thanksgiving or christmas or easter,but it's also a great summer salad so,anyway hope you guys enjoyed this video,if you're new to my channel please,subscribe and give the video a thumbs up,i would certainly appreciate it,thank you so much for watching bye bye,now

hi y'all today I'm gonna make recipe of,southern and Broza and the ingredients,we need are 1 8 ounce tub of whipped,topping thawed I'm using Cool Whip 1 cup,of sour cream 1 20 ounce can of,pineapple titbits drained well a 15,ounce can of mandarin orange segments,strained well 1 cup of red or green,seedless grapes sliced in half one and a,half cups of sweet and coconut flakes,one and a half cups of mini marshmallows,one 10 ounce jar of maraschino cherries,halved drained very well and half a cup,of chopped pecans so I'm gonna measure,out all my ingredients and I'll be right,back,ok y'all I've got everything measured,out so what we're going to do to start,is put the 8 ounce container of whipped,topping in the bowl with 1 cup of sour,cream,and you all know me I'll try to get,every last drop I can okay and we want,to mix that together and you can kind of,tell once it's combined because the sour,cream has a heavier texture than the,whipped topping I'm sure you could use a,whisk to do this,quicker but just don't dirty everything,in the kitchen okay and then it says to,take the one-and-a-half cups of coconut,flakes and I like to make sure I don't,have any big clumps and the marshmallows,and it says to combine these first oops,well let that one be stir the coconut,and the mini marshmallows into the Cool,Whip sour cream mixture till it's good,and combined and then everything else is,pretty much gonna go in at the same time,and try not to put any liquid I drained,him real well but then the little bit of,liquid sitting in the bowl I don't want,to pour that into the salad so those are,the pineapple tidbits the mandarin,orange segments and I had both green and,red apples so I used both and have them,the maraschino cherries have those look,pretty oh that's pretty and then a half,a cup of chopped pecans and I'm gonna,try and stir this up without tossing,most of it overboard oh my gosh it looks,good it smells amazing oh and this is,the first time I've made this salad,my stepson gave me the recipe and wanted,me to make it for him so doing this for,him so this is just for you Donnie,looks like a lot of sweetness I don't,want to break any of the fruit I want it,to stay in its pieces I just want to,make sure I get everything stirred up,and combined well okay so it looks like,a mess but,I'll spoon it into a another dish for,certain,that's plenty I should have wrote well,and I've got some extra pecans that I,could put on top of probably I bet it,would look cute I should have saved a,couple of maraschino cherries for the,top and some pecans so you might put if,you want to decorate it puts save some,cherries and some pecans for the top and,I think that would just make it extra,special I'm gonna taste this video not,just use my these bowls,oh yeah that's good,that's really good,make sure that sorry for mentioning your,ear anyway like I said this it's really,good that comes together so fast and I,don't think I do different as I would,have saved a couple of cherries or or at,least one and then some pecans for the,tops is to decorate it and that's it,just like usual I'll put the recipe in,the description box down below I'll see,you all next time thanks for watching,bye

hi I'm chef Laura ha chef and blogger,for guilt free foodie QT I'm here today,in Philadelphia Pennsylvania at Green's,Grove community incubator kitchen I'm,gonna show you how to make stasiu and,Brosius salad let's start so in this,bowl I have a can of crushed pineapple,and pineapple chunks that I've drained,not completely well but well enough that,there's not much liquid left in the bowl,so I just mixed them together put them,in the bowl to start now I have a packet,of jell-o sugar-free pistachio pudding,you probably could use any kind of,pudding you want and you can use regular,sugar pistachio pudding I just really,like the sugar free save the calories,there's enough sweetness and everything,else in here give this a nice stir,that's instant pudding mix so it doesn't,take a lot for it to start to really gel,up and with the juice in that pineapple,it won't take long at all,perfect oh this looks great makes me,think of st. Patrick's Day nice green,salad now we're gonna add to it about 1,cup of little mini marshmallows while,they run away on me let's grab all those,little guys great mix that together and,the marshmallows will start to soften up,and the liquid from the pineapple I'm,not putting great ok now we're gonna add,1 cup of Cool Whip,I'm gonna give our salad a little bit,more body and 2 tablespoons of crushed,coconut I'm using unsweetened you can,use sweetened if you want so it takes a,little bit of work to get this together,it's like regular you know instant,pudding when you add it to the milk you,kind of have to whisk it and work it,until you get that consistency that you,want and if you leave this in the fridge,it's really gonna gel it nice so just,keep mixing it but just to show you how,good it would look you know nice and,plated we're gonna take a nice spoon of,it put it in a clean white bowl garnish,it with some more Cool Whip,pistachios would be great a few more,little marshmallows let's get a,pineapple right on top wow that looks,great,and there you have it again,I'm chef Laura Han here in Philadelphia,Pennsylvania at Green's Grove farm and,that's how you make pistachio and,Burgess salad enjoy,you

hey everyone it's molly today we are,making ambrosia salad with cool whip or,this generic cold whip,so without further ado let's get started,okay so i will make sure to put this,recipe for you down below in the,description box you'll have it and dan,requested that i make ambrosia salad and,he had a really particular one in mind,so i actually got this,recipe from a website,that kind of,was close to the kind of ambrosia salad,he had as a kid,so that's why we're making this,particular one,so i just,added some vanilla yogurt to this cool,whip,and then you mix that together this is,pretty quick,and easy it goes together,pretty fast,okay so now that your cool whip and,yogurt are mixed,we're going to add the rest of our,ingredients so we're going to add our,maraschino cherries,and you can chop those if you want but,dan didn't want them chopped in,our crushed pineapple,our,mandarin oranges,and it says,half a cup of chopped pecans,you could really put whatever you wanted,in this um,every recipe i looked at for ambrosia,salad just was kind of different so it,seems like you could really just put,your favorite things in,this is a sweetened shredded coconut,so that's going in next i'm just gonna,eyeball that,you want about a cup,okay,and then,we want,the last ingredient is oh my gosh i,can't open this,i'm just going to add the rest of the,bag of,these fruit flavored mini marshmallows,hmm,but dan dan swears by this,all right,wow this makes a lot,i did not grow up eating ambrosia salad,my mom didn't make stuff like this even,though she's from the midwest,so,i understand that these are popular in,the midwest at least that's what i've,always heard but i didn't grow up eating,them,and you just want to gently fold in the,rest of your ingredients,and it's very pretty it's very colorful,these colors remind me of easter,just all the pastels with the,fruit and the marshmallows,and again really customizable you can,basically put whatever you want in this,okay so it says to chill before serving,but it doesn't say how long so i think,i'm just going to pop this into a,tupperware,and i'm gonna stick it in the fridge and,help dan clean out the cars and then,when we're done we'll taste this,it smells good,i have high hopes,all right,ambrosia salad with cool whip i'll see,you guys in a little bit,well lucky you guys i have to do a voice,over because my microphone which you can,see down there i decided not to pick up,any audio i'm having constant problems,with microphones lately but as you can,see dan and i are taste testing this and,i have to say it was delicious he says,this tasted exactly how he remembered it,and it was creamy and fruity and,just a perfect right amount of chew from,the pecans,and i was really hesitant about the,yogurt in this recipe but the yogurt,really lended just a nice tang that cut,through all the sweetness i think it,would have been too sweet without it so,the yogurt was a definitely an excellent,touch and as you can see we just keep,eating it it was really really good so i,really recommend this recipe i think,it's perfect for if you want to make an,ambrosia salad this is a really good one,to go with you can add whatever you want,to this it doesn't have to be what we,used but i think what we used was really,good i think next time i'll cut up the,cherries so that we have more pieces of,those dispersed and rather than just the,big,chunks of them but other than that yeah,this was great we really liked it and i,will again post the website that i got,this recipe from down below and i hope,you guys enjoy this and please if you,make this let me know what you think of,it,i would love to hear your thoughts on,this and if you guys want to see more,vintage recipes like this ambrosia salad,then please subscribe and hit the like,button and dan and i are always taste,testing vintage recipes okay i'll see,you guys in the next video

traditional,American dish I thought it was a Cuban,thing because growing up you would make,it and I would have it regularly but,it's not a Cuban dish I don't know I,don't think it is recording said I love,it with us but it's really a marshmallow,salad with fruit it's not a fruit salad,it's on large melon salad with fruit and,warning my mother's recipe the way that,she makes it is not healthy no no not at,all but it's great for a birthday,parties or you know graduations are,happening now it's great for graduation,or any celebration you may have for a,large group of people because the recipe,is gonna give you which whenever you,make it you make a large amount right,that's two so the recipe that she's,gonna give you is based on what she,normally makes and how many people you,think could could eat from one batch,that you're gonna share the recipe with,more than 20 people so this will feed,let's say 20 really hungry people okay,so keep that in mind,so my mother's mama Perez's famous and,Brosius salad recipe is okay we need one,kind of dancing milk sweetened condensed,milk so yes just one can only one pic oh,I thought you would put more in it no,okay okay okay,that makes it different cuz sometimes,American ambrosia salad doesn't have,sweetened condensed milk,I know but yours does okay we need 1 can,of sweetened condensed milk cream cheese,mashmallows okay yeah mini marshmallows,I use the meaning resonance yeah right,sounds like anybody uses the large ones,I don't know I use this all right I do,it not with fresh fruit I do it with the,candles why that's the way we do it she,okay like I said not very nutritious no,not very healthy okay,I thought one one can of mixed fruit no,no no let's just start let's start let's,start with seven speech,wait don't you have
