Seven Layer Salad with the BEST Dressing Ever 🥗 The Ultimate Potluck Recipe!

I'm Kelly Anthony this is the Anthony,kitchen and today we are giving a retro,salad one heck of a comeback,this is seven-layer salad and it is a,layer upon layer upon layer of savory,delicious goodness,y'all this salad is so cool and,refreshing it is like the ultimate,barbecue potluck salad it's perfect for,any get-together where there's lots of,people and warm weather involved the,bottom four layers of the salad will,consist of cool crisp iceberg lettuce,sweet peas frozen not canned a layer of,chopped hard-boiled egg and a layer of,grape tomatoes now if you're not a fan,of tomatoes you can swap that out for,chopped celery or green beans or any,vegetation,along those lines then we'll get into,the top half of the salad which is my,favorite we've got some crispy pan-fried,bacon some shredded cheddar cheese and,we're gonna whip up a dressing to go,right on top so now we're gonna get into,it and talk about how to make that,dressing this is a mayonnaise-based,dressing it actually reminds me a lot of,the way that my grandmother used to,serve me salad she would just chop up,some iceberg lettuce dice up some,tomatoes plop a little mayonnaise on top,stir it up hit it with salt and pepper,boom you're done I never knew that she,was dressing my salad with mayonnaise,until I got a little bit older and,started paying more attention to what,was going on in the kitchen but hey it's,delicious and it totally works so we,begin with mayonnaise we've got just,over a cup of mayonnaise in here and to,that we're gonna add some sour cream so,the sour cream is in we're gonna add,some vinegar now we're gonna add some,grated Parmesan cheese right into the,dressing that was about a third of a cup,okay and to that just a generous pinch,of salt we don't have to add too much,because that parmesan is already good,and salty so this is going to be a good,savory dressing with a little bit of,Tang and a nice bite thanks to that,vinegar just stir this really good and,once it's all mixed up we'll set it,aside pop it in the fridge and let those,flavors marinate a little bit while we,make the rest of the salad for a,seven-layer salad a clear serving dish,is an absolute must,you have to be able to show all of those,colorful gorgeous layers off and you,can't do that unless you're working with,glass however you do have some options I,like using more of a shallow glass bowl,or you could also use a 9 by 13 inch,casserole dish to do your layers you,could do a trifle dish but I found that,when I serve seven-layer salad out of a,trifle dish although it is totally a,show-stopping gorgeous display it can be,a little hard to get down to the bottom,layer of the lettuce and it makes it a,little bit difficult to mix so a shallow,glass bowl is great or a casserole dish,or if you're in it for the show go for,the trifle dish whatever floats your,boat so going into the dish first is,going to be the iceberg lettuce now I,have chopped this lettuce so that it is,bite-sized and people are not going to,struggle to get it into their mouth you,must make food that you're serving to a,crowd easy to eat so just chop that,iceberg lettuce into bite-sized pieces,wash it and dry it really really good it,is very important when it comes to a,make-ahead salad that all of the layers,are dried so we do not want to have any,water retained on the leaves of the,lettuce or it's going to get soggy and,if there is a pet peeve that is bigger,in my heart it is soggy bread but soggy,lettuce is right there number 2 you want,to fill about half of the bowl full of,lettuce once that's done we can move on,to the next layer now on to the grape,tomatoes so here is a tip I typically,like to split my great tomatoes in half,however if you're going to do that for,this salad you need to squeeze out the,seeds because again we're trying to,avoid moisture all together I've really,found that as far as serving goes it's,really better to leave the great,Tomatoes whole so that's what I'm gonna,do today and here is a little tip you,want to start along the edge of the bowl,this is because if you don't have enough,tomatoes to go all the way into the,center then you can fill that in with,lettuce,but we want to show off those layers so,we're gonna add to the edges first okay,now that I have the whole perimeter of,the bowl lined I'll just dump these,tomatoes in the middle and we'll move on,to the next layer next step hard-boiled,eggs as far as hard-boiled eggs go I,feel like you either love them or you,hate them so feel free to leave this out,if you are not a fan okay so to begin I,am going to cut the egg in half and then,I'm going to cut it in two quarters here,and what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna take,the egg because remember this is a showy,salad and I'm just gonna line it along,the edges of the salad so just do this,until you maybe have used up three eggs,or so and then we can take the rest of,the eggs and just give them a good rough,chop okay looking good just add it,directly over the center here now for,the peas

How to make SEVEN LAYER SALAD {Recipe Video}

How to make SEVEN LAYER SALAD {Recipe Video}

who remembers going to a church potluck,or family reunion or a summer picnic and,eating seven-layer salad this loaded,salad recipe goes way back but today I'm,gonna show you how we make ours amazing,just a few little hints are gonna give,you a rich creamy flavorful dressing and,a beautiful presentation that your,family is going to love it's not only,delicious it's also really easy let me,show you how to make it the first step,is to make the dressing you want to make,the dressing first so that the flavors,can just sit together in the fridge and,meld together while you make the rest of,the salad so in this bowl I have 1 and,1/4 cups of mayonnaise now this is not,Miracle Whip,this is mayonnaise you can use Miracle,Whip if you like but it will change the,flavor and then I'll add 1/4 of a cup of,sour cream 1 tablespoon of sugar and,then 2/3 of a cup of Parmesan cheese now,here's our first hint,don't use the powdered Parmesan cheese,that comes in the shaker can you can,either buy shredded Parmesan in your,deli section of your favorite grocery,store or better yet buy a block of,parmesan and shred it yourself freshly,shredded Parmesan cheese is always the,best I'll just take a little spatula and,mix that together and then I'll place,this in the fridge while I make the rest,of the salad,now seven-layer salad traditionally,starts with a head of iceberg lettuce so,I'm going to start just cutting this up,into chunks if you'd like to use a,different type of lettuce you can use a,spring lettuce romaine and as you'll see,I'm gonna add in just a little bit of,spinach my family likes it with a little,bit of spinach inside the dark green,leaves of the spinach just add a little,bit of extra pop of color so just chop,that lettuce into bite-size pieces,really a small Z like your lettuce,pieces to be so I'm gonna add in a layer,of iceberg,and then just a few pieces of spinach,and then more iceberg a little bit more,spinach and then the remaining iceberg,lettuce now as you can see this fills,the bowl up about halfway the major part,of this salad is the lettuce and then,the rest of the layers will get piled on,top the next step is to slice up some,tomatoes I buy little cherry tomatoes or,grape tomatoes you can use Roma tomatoes,and cut them in slices I like to buy the,little grape tomatoes and just slice,them in half you'll need about two cups,of tomatoes so after you finish chopping,the tomatoes just scoop them up and,layer them on top of the lettuce make,sure that you put each layer on the,outer edge of the bowl so that you can,see the pretty colorful layers the next,layer is peas now use frozen peas,you want them to be mostly thawed they,can thaw the rest of the way in the,salad but don't use canned peas canned,peas don't have a very pretty color,first of all and then the texture is,just gonna be off you want the little,bit of a crunch that the frozen peas are,going to give to the salad again spread,those Peas to the outer edge so that you,can see them on the outside of the bowl,and see that pretty green layer the next,player is hard-boiled eggs I use six,hard-boiled eggs you'll just want to,take off that shell our favorite ways to,hard-boiled eggs to get the peels off,pretty easily is in the instant pot it,works almost perfectly every single time,get those shells out of the way so they,don't end up in a salad if you are,afraid you have little pieces of shell,on the egg you can also just rinse them,under water and it'll just get those,little bits of eggshell right off so,take a knife and just slice those eggs,it's okay if they don't look pretty,they're going to be right in the salad,and this is not the top layer so no one,will see them,I love adding hard-boiled eggs to the,salad because it just gives that extra,layer of protein in there it really,makes the palate a great lunch option,it's kind of a complete meal in one then,we'll take the egg slices and again,layer them on the top especially on the,outside of that bowl so you can see the,layers then once you get the outer ring,done you can just fill in that inner,layer and that layers done the next,layer is cheddar cheese you want about 2,cups of cheddar cheese but the amount,really depends on how much cheese you'd,like in your salad you just want to be,able to see a nice layer of cheese in,there now you can use pre shredded,cheese if you need a shortcut but we,highly highly recommend creating your,own cheese it just has better flavor it,has a smoother texture and it just kind,of takes your salad to the next level we,like to use a sharp cheddar cheese just,for flavor but you can use a Colby,cheese if you'd like or a mild cheddar,take that freshly shredded cheddar,cheese and sprinkle it on the salad,grab that homemade dressing from the,fridge and we'll dollop it on the top,this is a four quart Bowl which holds,the salad nicely if your bowl is a,little bit of a different shape you,might find you don't have enough,dressing or it might even seem like you,have too much you can alway

Binging with Babish: Seven Layer Salad from How I Met Your Mother

- I'm going to let you in on a secret recipe:,the Eriksen family seven-layer salad.,- Seven-layer salad?,Six cups of mayonnaise?,That can't be right.,- Oh, no, dear. 16 cups.,- Hey, what's up, guys?,Welcome back to "Binging With Babish,",where this week, we're taking a look,at the Eriksen family seven-layer salad,from "How I Met Your Mother,",one that famously requires 16 cups of mayonnaise,,which is used almost as a mortar joint,between each layer of the salad.,We're starting with a layer,of what I assume was store-bought guacamole,,no thicker than an inch, inch and a half,,we don't want this salad to be too healthy,,followed by just over two cups of mayonnaise.,Then, rinse and repeat with each remaining layer:,bacon bits, mayo, shredded carrots, mayo,,purple cabbage, mayo, Funyuns, mayo,,gummy bears, mayo, and of course, potato chips.,And there you have it: the pride of the Eriksen family,and the state of Minnesota, the seven-layer salad.,And sure, it looks beautiful, but how's it taste?,Well, you gotta dig down deep to make sure,that you're getting a little bit of every layer,so that you can make an accurate assessment,when you dip that first chip.,Yep, that's what I thought was gonna happen.,Obviously, this doesn't taste totally awesome,,so it's gonna be pretty easy to improve upon.,So just in time for the big game,,we're gonna make an Eriksen family twist,on a classic seven-layer dip,,first making our own refried beans,,combining two cups of beans, a whole onion, quartered,,and two cloves of garlic in a medium saucepan.,Cover with water, bring to a boil,,and gently simmer for 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hours,until the beans are completely tender.,Then, strain and set aside,,reserving the bean-cooking liquid.,Meanwhile, we're cooking up a pound of chopped bacon,,adding about 1/2 cup of water to the pan,,and letting that boil off.,This helps the bacon render out fat more efficiently,and cook more evenly.,Strain out all that delicious bacon fat,,drain the bacon on paper towels,,and add about 1/2 cup of the bacon fat back to the pan,,heating over medium-high until shimmering,before adding the beans with some of the chopped-up bacon.,Why not?,Add about one cup of the bean liquid,and cook for three to five minutes,until a thick sauce forms around the beans.,Then it's time to smash 'em up.,Use your potato masher to mash the beans,until you've reached the bean consistency,that's right for you.,Season to taste with kosher salt,and get ready for the best refried beans of your life.,Go ahead and set those aside,until they're no longer hot, but just warm.,Meanwhile, we're gonna prep the other layers,of our salad dip thing,,chopping two large, ripe tomatoes,and combining with 1/4 of a small, finely chopped red onion,,deseeded, deveined jalapeno, finely minced,,about 1/4 cup chopped cilantro,,the juice of one particularly juicy lime,,one clove garlic, finely chopped, pinch of kosher salt,,few twists of freshly ground black pepper,,and there you have it: pico de gallo.,Next up, as a tribute to the perverse level,of mayo used in their recipe,,we're combining 2/3 cup of mayonnaise,,one cup of sour cream, and the juice,and zest of yet another very juicy lime,,big pinch of kosher salt.,Tiny whisk to combine, and we're left,with a sort of nod to Honduran crema.,Next up, we're preparing some guac, carefully abiding,by all local and federal regulations involving guacamole.,If you wanna see how to make my favorite guacamole,,click the link in the upper right hand corner right now.,And then it's on to assembling our dip.,First, a layer of refried beans, followed by guacamole,,pico de gallo, shredded cheese, shredded lettuce,,sliced jalapenos, chopped red onion,,and as a final tribute to the Eriksens, a pile of Funyuns.,Scatter your tortilla chips about the place,as rustically as possible,,and as with all great dips or salads, share it with friends.,(upbeat music)

Easy 7 Layer Salad Recipe - Low Carb Keto Salad Ideas

Easy 7 Layer Salad Recipe - Low Carb Keto Salad Ideas

hello and welcome back to my channel,today I'm going to share a recipe for,really easy,seven-layer salad that's low-carb Keira,friendly gluten free and veggie friendly,too and if you like the video be sure to,leave a like subscribe for more videos,comment to let me know if you give the,recipe a try and once you think of it,and as always I've written a blog post,which I'll leave down below which has,the full recipe and step-by-step,instructions that you can click through,the pin bookmark and save when you want,to make this recipe so let me quickly,talk you through the seven rest seven,foods I'm included in the recipe and,then we'll get making it we're gonna,start with some lettuce yeah just of,some Irish mini-cons lettuce you can use,any lettuce you like or spinach instead,we've got cucumber over here I'm using a,lovely whole fresh cucumber I'm gonna,just chop up and use as much as I need,with each ingredient ready just as much,as you need,I've got avocado hoping it's a nice one,we'll see when we get inside I,hard-boiled a whole lot of eggs,yesterday kept them in the fridge and so,now we've got some hard-boiled eggs to,include in the salad for some good,protein I am using a red pepper but it,really just depends how many carbs you,want to allocate to your salad but red,pepper is what I'm gonna include I've,got some sour cream a B half a lovely,creaminess and I like including cheese,in my seven layer salads you can either,include regular grated cheese or I've,got these parmigiano-reggiano shavings,it kind of adds an element of saltiness,and lovely flavor if you want this to be,definitely vegetarian or serve this to,someone who is vegetarian or you're,vegetarian yourself just be sure to use,vegetarian cheese that's all just make,sure this one is actually not vegetarian,friendly but you can get other kinds of,cheese that is that are so let me get,started I'm going to get out my dish and,start layering up my salad so I'm using,this rectangular meal prep container to,make my salad in and then it comes with,a lid so I can pop the lid on take it,out and about with me or just keep it in,the fridge and have it whenever I want,so we'll start with the first layer,which is a lettuce so I've roughly torn,and washed a whole lot of lettuce leaves,and we'll just,a base layer of lettuce leaves for the,salad the next I've roughly chopped up,red pepper and we'll add that in for a,bit of color contrast and texture they,go you can see just lovely contrast of,the green and the red so vibrant and now,we'll do the next layer next we'll go,for a layer of cucumber that I've just,cut into rounds and there you go just a,layer off cubone you can see it's,starting to shake shape you've got the,red the green and next I'm going to peel,some of these hard-boiled eggs,and pop a layer on top of that so smooth,that aside a sec I've got my hard-boiled,egg over here I'm just using a hobbled,egg slicer to slice perfect rounds from,my egg I'll just pop this back because,then it kind of looks perfect doughnut,on top of the cucumber to have just some,lovely egg going with it and I'll just,fill this layer with egg I ended up,needing a third egg to fill my layer but,it really just depends on how much egg,you want and how thick a layer you use I,use three eggs in total you might need,two three four just bottle up a whole,pot if you're gonna use eggs because you,always use them we love in the snacks my,kids will just eat them by the bowlful,but yeah look it's coming together just,a couple more layers to go next we're,gonna take a look inside the avocado and,see how it looks,I've cut into the avocado actually looks,pretty good yeah so I'm just gonna slice,it up and pop a layer of avocado on top,of the egg just pop it anyhow along just,to fill a layer of avocado this is the,only layer I'm not completely covering,I'm quite happy just kind of haphazardly,popping the avocado along just making a,nice layer of it because using forever,kados in this one is perfect and I'm,quite happy with the creaminess and,everything that that includes so yeah,next we're gonna add on our sour cream,and you can use the mix of sour cream a,you can mix them together you could add,salt seasoning any layer you like but,I'm quite happy just now addy,sour cream porn you know that just keeps,it simple I kind of use most of the tub,of sour cream but when it kind of,distributes all through its kind of,perfect and I find having this layer of,sour cream and the top kind of seals,everything is you can keep this for a,few days in the fridge and it is alright,okay,get anywhere final layer of parmesan now,okay now you can as I said either pop,grated cheese on top of these parmesan,almost like Palmer's and chips and they,are just lovely and just perfect a,perfect finishing layer to my,seven-layer salad and there you go my,salad is done you can see the lovely,layer on top you could have sewn there's,so many adaptations for the salad I'll,leave loads of ideas in the blog post,down below but if yo

7 Layer Salad

7 Layer Salad

what's happening with skeeter dad here,and today we made a seven,layer salad you're gonna love this one,check it out,so let's go ahead and get started our,first layer is simple,it's just lettuce you could add some,spinach to this if you want but i've,just got,a head of lettuce chopped up ready to go,we're going to start by putting that in,our bowl as layer number one,now it's time to layer in our different,ingredients first we have some onion you,can use,yellow onion white onion red onion it,doesn't really matter you just want to,layer this it's about a quarter cup,on top of the lettuce next we're gonna,do,our celery and i've got two to three,stalks of celery here,again just layering on,next we've got our peas now if you want,to make this more keto friendly more low,carb you're going to reduce the amount,of peas i've got a full cup here,but you certainly can use a half of a,cup it's not something that's going to,make or break the salad,and the peas definitely have some carbs,all those are not too bad,all right next we've got water chestnuts,and these two ingredients the peas and,the water,chestnuts again are where some carbs,come from,so they're ones that you can either,reduce or you can eliminate all together,depending,on how carb conscious you want this,salad to be,the next ingredient is our green pepper,we're going to go ahead and layer in,about a three quarters of a green pepper,and this salad is so delicious doesn't,look good already,prior to putting our mayonnaise in we're,going to add a little bit of sweetener i,have,a keto friendly sweetener here you can,use swerve you can use erythritol,you can use really monk fruit anything,you want i like the powdered because you,won't taste it it won't be,gritty we're just going to go ahead and,mix it together with the mayonnaise,all right now we're going to go ahead,and spread our mayo,as evenly as possible over this and we,love using some sort of,avocado mayo there's a few different,brands out there we use one from sir,kensington,primal kitchen has one as well but you,just want to,kind of pat this down,all right this is looking good already,the last thing that we're gonna add is,our cheddar cheese,all right i went ahead and put my,cheddar cheese on we've got about four,ounces of cheddar cheese,just spread it around and we're actually,gonna allow this to refrigerate for,quite a few hours just to kind of,congeal and get together,all right our salad's been refrigerated,check it out it's looking delicious,i'm just gonna add this on and before we,actually eat it we're gonna go ahead and,stir it all together,i'm telling you you're gonna love adding,the bacon for this,and you're gonna love this salad

Southern Seven Layer Salad

Southern Seven Layer Salad

a classic southern seven-layer salad is,something that shows up at every funeral,and potluck across the south today i'm,going to show you my version and how i,make it easy and approachable for any,family meal join me inside and let's get,started,let's get started on this salad now to,drink traditionally a seven layer salad,is made in a deep clear bowl or,something where you can see all those,layers so if you don't have one i'm,going to link one that's similar on,amazon that you can pick up you can make,this in any dish as long as you have,enough depth so don't feel like you have,to have anything particular for it in,the bottom of this i have about three,quarters of a head of iceberg lettuce i,know iceberg doesn't have that much,flavor but it is the one that we use,here because it is the most sturdy so,i've got that in the bottom and then,we're going to add some tomatoes so this,is about two medium tomatoes and i will,leave you all the measurements i'm gonna,try not to get all that liquid in here,i'll leave you all the measurements and,if you need the printed version of this,recipe you can get that on feast and,farm i will leave a link to that as well,so when it comes to tomatoes if it's,winter time and you want to make this,opt for a cherry tomato because they are,the only ones that are going to have any,flavor,all right as far as what layers go next,that's kind of up to you there is not,really a exact science to this some,people really hate the fact that there,are tomatoes in this recipe some say,that you should never have a tomato in,there you can do it the way that you,like,now let's go in with some hard-boiled,eggs this is about four,hard-boiled eggs,and we'll just layer those in,and i'm actually going to put just a,little bit of salt in here,a pinch kind of in the middle gives it a,little extra flavor we always use sea,salt i don't use any iodized salt just,because i like the extra minerals that,come from sea salt but whatever you like,is fine and then we'll just do a little,bit of pepper,then let's go in with some bacon so i,have about six or so slices,of cooked crumbled bacon and i'm gonna,just kind of,get that in,i don't think you can have enough bacon,we could always put some more,and on top of that we're going to do,peas now these are frozen peas that i,thawed i'm not doing anything to these,because as they they're blanched before,they are frozen so they're already,technically cooked and you don't have to,you don't have to do anything else,so let's put those in,okay,and,a layer of cheese and everybody does,this a little bit different some people,put the cheese and the bacon on the very,top of their southern of their,seven-layer salad other people put it,underneath the dressing so i'm going to,put mine under the dressing i feel like,the dressing just kind of seals,everything in and keeps it fresh,if you wanted to make this in advance i,would recommend not putting the tomatoes,in because they are going to make it a,little bit wet in the bottom if you want,to make it you can make it the day you,want to serve it you can make it a day,ahead i just wouldn't go much longer,than that okay now let's talk about oh,a little bit of onion so my recipe,originally calls for green onions i,forgot them at the grocery store so,we're going to go in with a shallot,shallots are a milder blend they're a,little bit like garlic and they're a,little bit like an onion so we're just,going to put a few of those in we don't,want to overpower people,and we're going to make dressing so i'm,going to slide this to the side,and we're going to look in this bowl,in here i have one cup of mayonnaise one,cup of sour cream and of course i'm,always going to recommend that you make,your own mayonnaise if you're not up for,that at least try to find one that does,not have canola oil in it that's always,important,and i'm going to put in about,you can do sugar 2 tablespoons of sugar,is what the original recipe calls for,but i'm going to do honey um i try to,cut my sugar consumption back as much as,possible and that honey is a perfect,substitute so we're going to put that in,and we're just going to mix all this,together,it should be a similar flavor,to coleslaw dressing in a way it'll be a,little bit sweet,but not overpowering,it's just very very simple,so get this mixed up,make sure all that honey dissolves in,there,and i'm going to switch to a spatula so,i can get it all out,okay we're going to pour that,over the top,and then we're just going to spread it,evenly,and try to take it all the way to the,edge of the bowl,and just seal all those ingredients in,this is one salad i think it takes on a,better flavor if it can sit for at least,a couple of hours before you want to,serve it and then to serve it what i,would do is just take a little bit of,black pepper,and grind that over the top,and it's ready to go,for a heartier version check out this,steak salad you can find right here and,i'll see you in the next video have a,great day guys
