How to Make Ambrosia Salad | Easy Fruit Salad Recipe

hello and welcome to in the kitchen with,matt i am your host,matt taylor today i'm going to show you,how to make an ambrosia salad i had a,request to make an ambrosia salad so,here we go that's what we're going to do,for those of you who aren't familiar,with ambrosia salad this is a very,popular,salad fruit salad down in the south,southern united states and it kind of,gets its name from the greek mythology,it is really good if you love fruit,salads sweet and tangy you'll love this,super easy to do if i can do it you can,do it before i move on make sure to,subscribe to my channel and hit that,notification bell so you don't miss out,on any of my new videos let's get,started,down below in the description box you'll,find a list of the ingredients and their,amounts one thing i want to point out is,you don't have to be super precise with,these amounts okay if you like more of,one ingredient than another use more,than another if you don't want,a certain ingredient then don't use it,at all you can substitute it this is,your ambrosia salad you can do whatever,you want okay,all right so first what we're going to,do is i'm going to slide these,ingredients aside,and get a large bowl here,and now i'm going to open up eight,ounces of sour cream this is one cup of,sour cream,and if you don't have sour cream you can,make sour cream i have a little video,on how you can make your own sour cream,or you can substitute the sour cream,with yogurt if you want use a plain,yogurt or use like a vanilla yogurt,and get this all in here,but sour cream in general sour cream and,fruit especially sweet fruit go really,really well together,as kids what we used to do is we would,dip,strawberries,in sour cream,and then dip that in brown sugar,it was really really good,and now i have one full tub or one,container of whipped topping and you can,use the cool whip brand or just use the,store brand they pretty much taste the,same and this is much cheaper this was,only a dollar,and this is eight ounces as well,or 226 grams,and i set this i set this out for about,30 minutes just so it would soften up,we want to put all of that in there,and you could do homemade whipped cream,too if you want okay,and then we just want to stir this,together,now we start adding the other,ingredients again all these ingredients,are optional but they're very common in,a typical ambrosia salad or a fruit,salad,so i'm going to start with,this is about 16 ounces of,little mandarin oranges,and you can just get these in a can or,these little fruit cups and then just,drain it,put that in there,just slightly over a cup worth and again,if you don't want to use that many you,don't have to if you want to use a,little bit more you can do that as well,and then i'm going to add,about a cup of,green,grapes if they're really large you want,to slice them in half if they're small,like this i normally don't slice them in,half,and those are optional some ambrosia,salads will have the grapes and some,won't it just depends,and then i'm going to use,one cup of sweetened coconut shredded,coconut,if you don't like coconut then don't add,it and make sure you use the sweetened,kind if you use the unsweetened it just,doesn't taste that that good and now,we're gonna use fruity,fruity mini marshmallows,and that's very very popular to have,those in the ambrosia salad,and then we have,one and a half cups this is,20 ounces of just pineapple tidbits,and then we have just under a cup about,three-fourths of a cup of marish you,know,cherries,those are very popular to have in the,ambrosia salad as well,but some people do not like maraschino,cherries and if so then just leave them,out or substitute them with different,cherries if you want,okay,there you go that's what we do,there's no baking or cooking or anything,required,and now we just want to,fold this all together you don't want to,stir really heavily because you don't,want to break up the fruit we just want,to kind of just go underneath it and,fold it okay,this fruit salad is very common in the,springtime and summertime,and there you go it is ready to go and,then sometimes,when you serve it i will serve it and,you know i'll just place a little cherry,like that on top after i serve it,and then what you'll do is you're just,going to cover this,i have a lid for this bowl just cover it,and chill it until you want to serve it,well there you go ambrosia fruit salad,super yummy super easy to do if i can do,it you can do it i'm matt taylor this,has been another episode of in the,kitchen with matt thank you for joining,me as always if you have any questions,comments or requests put them down below,and i will get back to you as soon as i,can thumbs up down the corner push it,don't forget to subscribe to my channel,and check out my other videos take care,time for me to dive into this so yeah,so amazing

- One of the things that I love about spring and summer,is all of the delicious fruit that's in season.,And there is no better way to show it off and enjoy it,than with a big bowl of fruit salad.,Now I'm sure you're thinking to yourself,,"Oh, I don't need a recipe for a fruit salad.,I mean, how hard is it to slice up a bunch of fruit?",And the answer is it's not hard at all,,but I do have some tips,to help you make the best fruit salad possible.,So I think today's video is worth the watch.,And besides, you don't wanna miss the bright and zingy,honey-lime dressing that I drizzle on top,that I think is an essential for a fresher, jucier,,and all around more delicious fruit salad.,So let's dive in.,You can make fruit salad with a wide variety of fruit,but I always love an assortment,of about six to eight different fruits,for a vibrant, rainbow-colored salad.,When you're at the market, think in terms of color,and grab fruit with hues of blue, yellow, green,,red and orange.,The first thing you'll wanna do is wash any of the fruit,with the skin that you'll be eating such as these grapes.,Now, I won't show you washing all of the fruit,as that would get a little boring,,but you can wash it in a bowl of water,or under the faucet in a colander.,And after you wash the fruit,,just make sure to dry it thoroughly,so that you don't introduce extra water,into your fruit bowl.,I'll usually just place it on a clean kitchen towel,and pat it dry.,So since I've got the grapes out, we can start with them,and you'll wanna slice about two cups of grapes,and you can use red or green, it's up to you.,You can slice them individually with a knife,or you can use this cool trick,that I learned a few years ago,to slice several grapes at once.,All you have to do is find a plastic lid,from a storage container,or you could use a small plate with a lip on the edge,and the lip just helps to keep the grapes in place.,Then I like to add another lid on top to protect my hands,and also to help hold the grapes in place,and then all you have to do is slice through the middle,with a very sharp knife.,When you're done, you'll have sliced,through a whole bunch of grapes in one fell swoop.,And the great thing about this trick,is that it works for cherry tomatoes,and grape tomatoes as well.,Once you've got your grapes sliced up,,just add them to a large bowl,and you do want a very large bowl,as this is a party-sized portion of fruit salad,that will serve a big group of people.,Next step is pineapple and it's totally worth,grabbing a whole pineapple and slicing it yourself,for the juiciest flavor.,When you grab a pineapple from the market,,the outside should be firm,but have a little bit of give when you press on it.,It should also smell sweet and delicious on the bottom end.,If you don't smell anything, it's probably underripe.,And lastly, I always thought,that if you could easily pull a leaf out from the top,that it meant that it was ripe,,but I have since learned that that's not the case,,it just means you have a loose leaf.,All right, to slice up the pineapple,,cut off the top end and then rotate it around,and slice off the bottom.,Stand it up on end and with a sharp knife,,remove the outer skin.,I try to cut as close to the skin as possible,to not waste any fruit,,which means sometimes I'll have to go back,and trim up any areas,that need a little bit more shaved off the side.,Now, if you look at the top of the pineapple,,you'll see the core in the middle,,which is tough and fibrous.,So to remove that, it's really easy.,You'll just slice right next to the core all the way down,and remove all of the pineapple flesh.,I do this in four slices,and then I'm left with a square core,that I can easily discard.,(joyful music),From here, you can slice the pineapple,into bite-sized pieces,as big or as little as you'd like for the fruit salad.,There are many methods to cut a pineapple,,but I like this approach,because it also gives me a flat surface here,on the pineapple flesh,,so it doesn't move around on me.,For today's fruit salad recipe,,you'll wanna add half of a pineapple to the fruit salad,which is about two and a half cups cubed.,And what I do is slice up the whole pineapple,and then freeze the remainders,so that I can make my pineapple turmeric smoothie,in the future.,Next step are two mangoes and to prep these,just cut the top and bottom off,,then use a peeler to remove the skin.,If your mangoes are overly ripe and really soft,,it may be difficult to use a peeler,,so then just use a knife.,My first mango is actually a bit underripe today,,but the second one is perfect.,There's an oval-shaped seed in the middle of the mango,and to remove that,you'll wanna slice just off-center on the wide side,,then rotate it and slice the other half off.,Lastly, remove the mango cheeks by slicing around the seed,and then dissect the mango into bite-sized pieces.,Mango adds a wonderful, creamy texture to fruit salad,and I prefer it fourth of a cup,of your favorite chili powder today i,have wajio and a little bit of chile de,arbol,the juice of two key limes,optional but not necessary some sugar,and just keep mixing until all your,ingredients are well combined,oh my mouth is watering that smells so,good,so good

foreign,hello everyone welcome back to cooking,with donna,today we're going to be making up i mean,it is,springs here so we're all looking for,something,a dessert to cool us down a bit and,so i'm gonna make this fruit salad,and it's good for summer,you definitely don't have to wait for,spring or summer,this is good anytime,but here in my bowl i'm going to put in,an eight ounce pack,package of full fat cream cheese,and make sure it's at room temp for you,okay let me get my,beater over here my mixer,and what i'm gonna do here,is add in,a half a cup of sugar,and i'm just gonna mix this up,until it gets nice and creamy,this is some good stuff y'all i hope you,give it a try,you got that cheesecake flavor going on,here,and,just,get this down off the sides here,make sure we get this cream cheese nice,and light and mixed up well for us,you want to get this mixed up good,okay,now,you know what curtis i didn't get my,cool whip out of there would you hand me,that cool whip and then to that,i'm gonna be adding in,a quarter cup,of,sour cream,it's a quarter cup of sour cream,and i have an eight ounce tub,of good old cool whip,and we'll get that mixed in there,scrape it all out of there,the only thing bad about this any kind,of dessert a lot of them you gotta wait,on them,because you want them to chill really,well before you serve it so,make this up,a good four or five hours before you're,gonna,serve it up,now i'm just going to mix this all,together,get it all mixed in,where's my,let me have this,just get it all mixed in there,i can eat this stuff just like this by,itself,okay,you want to get it mixed in there really,well,this will make a good dish too for your,dessert table for easter,all the beautiful fruit that's in there,see how nice and fluffy that becomes,yummy,okay now i'm gonna i didn't get my other,bowl out that i needed,let me grab that,because you want to kind of layer this a,bit that way you don't have to,put all of your,fruit in there like that and it's just,going to take more time so i like to,just,do a little layer on it take some out,okay now,just kind of spread that out on the,bottom,in my bowl i have washed and cut my,strawberries,i have two cups of strawberries in here,two cups of blackberries,a cup of raspberries,a cup of blueberries and a cup of,raspberries,but either way i've been writing the,recipes down or what you'll need in the,description,so if i left something out i'll always,go back and put it there in the,description area you'll find,what you'll be needing for this and it's,so simple,so what i'm going to do is add half,these berries in,there we go,and just gently fold this over,you don't want to,go in there stirring real hard and,breaking up everything,there we go,now i'll add the rest of the cream,spread that out,and go in with the rest of the berries,okay,now i'm just going to stir this up,gently just kind of fold it over,until you get everything mixed up,and i'll finish mixing this up and i'll,boil it up,okay you guys there it is there's the,berry salad and we're gonna have my,daughter-in-law here,taste it she knew i was making it so,is that good i'm definitely gonna make,it for easter right oh yes okay i gotta,get me a bite here make sure you save us,some for me oh yeah she loves this stuff,so i told her i was making it and she's,like oh i'm there,i may have a bite,mm-hmm,it was very refreshing make them are,really good those berries are nice and,fresh mm-hmm,but anyway,you guys go ahead and make you up some,and i won't tell anybody that sabrina's,double dipping,that's her whole side right there,you guys make you up a bowl of that even,for easter or whenever,and you enjoy stay blessed stay safe oh,and the berries the strawberries i did,just cut them lengthwise and then across,quarters and,cut them however you want them but the,strawberries are the only berries that i,cut,but until next time we will see you guys,later stay blessed bye

right one of my favorites it's a tangy,fruit salad and it's for breakfast would,you believe,start off with a chili now,give it a little rub so,you can hear those seeds being released,get your knife and come all the way down,turn it over and just slice it into four,and then finely chop that chili i want,this salad,slightly hot so i'm going to use all the,chili but half the seeds,the seeds are where the heat is so the,less you use,the milder your dish nicely chopped,next one of my favorite pastes tamarind,paste this is quite tart,quite sour but it's a wonderful,compliment to the sweetness of the fruit,and it goes brilliantly well with a,chilli,palm sugar and this is where it sweetens,up,the dressing because it enriches it then,the zest,and the juice of a lime cut it into,quarters,and then twist the lime to maximize,and all that juice out now to finish,that dressing off,some toasted peanuts,get the pan nice and hot,a little touch of salt that will help,dry,roast the peanuts even quicker,make sure you get a really nice dark,color on those peanuts,because it will really transform that,dressing to crush your roasted nuts the,mess-free way,simply wrap them in a clean cloth and,use a rolling pin,or a pan to bash them crush,that's the hard bit done now,for the fruit and here's an easy way to,prep a pineapple,pineapple take off the top,take off the bottom,and stand it up use the corner knife and,follow down,basically like shaving the pineapple,don't worry about these little spikes,there the secret behind doing it this,way,is not losing half the pineapple there's,nothing wrong with a few brown bits,it's all good fiber slice the pineapple,in half,and then slice down each quarter,slice across and chop,delicious pineapple chunks,next apples and pears diced then to give,a lovely fresh light note,the seeded cucumber i don't want the,seeds in the fruit salad,the cucumber seeds will make it very,watery and dilute the strength for that,wonderful chili in there,cucumber in for some sweetness,delicious mango just slice it nicely,get your dressing and just drizzle that,over the fruit salad,in the secret of a good fruit salad,is not drowning in the dressing but,really make sure that you've got that,nice coating on all the fruits,don't worry about just having for,breakfast because this is the kind of,tangy fruit salad you can have for lunch,a healthy snack in the afternoon but it,transforms,a traditional fruit salad into something,really delicious,spicy fruit salad with a kick of chili,trust me it's an incredible breakfast,and a guaranteed pick me up in the,morning
