Amish Friendship Bread Recipe + How to make Starter

- Hey, everyone, it's Dorothy with crazyforcrust.com,,and welcome back to my kitchen.,Tell me if you remember Amish friendship bread?,That's that bread that has a starter, that grows on your counter, and then every 10 days, you get to make a loaf of quick bread with it.,Who remembers that?,Back in the 80s, we had starter,on our counter for months.,I think I ate more of this bread, back then when I was a kid than I ate vegetables.,Today I'm going to walk you through how,to make your starter from scratch, and how to raise it on your counter,,how to make the quick bread out of it,,and how to share it with your friends.,(upbeat music),We've all been stuck at home for what seems like forever,,and from my analytics, you all,are loving making your own starters,,and so I'm going to show you how,to make this Amish bread today from beginning to end.,I'm going to show you how to make the starter,,how to grow it, how to make the bread out of it,,and how to share it with your friends.,You're not going to want to miss it.,Let's get in the kitchen.,Before we get started, be sure to subscribe,to my channel for more delicious and easy recipes.,We're going to start with active dry yeast.,In a pinch you can use instant yeast,,but there are slightly different directions,,so be sure and read the recipe.,You're going to use one packet,,which is two and a quarter teaspoons.,Dissolve your yeast in hot water, and let it sit to bloom and activate.,Then add one cup each of flour and granulated sugar,to a plastic or glass bowl and stir.,And then add one cup of milk, any fat content,,and whisk to combine that.,Then you're going to add the bloomed yeast and stir it.,Now here's a note.,Don't use metal whisk like I show.,That was a mistake on my part.,Just this whisking is fine, but ongoing use,of metal will hurt the chemical reaction of the starter,,so don't use metal utensils or metal bowls, when you're making or stirring your starter.,Stir it all together, and then cover it,with a kitchen towel.,You're going to set it on your counter.,Don't refrigerate it.,Once you've made your starter, it's time to raise it,,and so it's going to take 10 days, from day one when you first make your starter, until it's ready to bake with it,,and over that 10 days, we're going to babysit it a little bit.,Once a day on days two, three, and four,,stir the mixture with a wooden spoon or spatula.,Again, don't use the metal like I did.,Then recover it every day.,Now that it's day five, we're going to feed our starter,,and you're going to feed it with a combination,of flour, sugar, and milk, stir it,,and then you're going to continue babysitting it,for another five days until it's time to bake with it.,To feed your starter, add one cup each flour,,sugar, and milk, and then stir it.,Cover it, and let it sit again.,On days six through nine, you're going to stir, and cover it, also.,Just like you did on the other days.,It's finally day 10.,Our starter has been growing for 10 days.,We're going to feed it today,,and then we're going to bake bread with it,,and then I'm going to show you how to share it,with your friends.,On day 10, you're going to feed it again,,adding one cup of flour, one cup of milk,,and one cup of granulated sugar.,Then you're going to stir it together.,Make sure, again, to use a wooden spoon or a spatula.,It might end up being slightly lumpy, but that's okay.,Today's the day we're going to bake with it,,and we're going to divvy it up to give it to our friends.,So cover it until you're ready to bake.,To bake the bread, whisk together two cups of flour,,one and quarter teaspoons of baking powder,,one teaspoon of baking soda, a half teaspoon of salt,,and one teaspoon of cinnamon.,Whisk it all together, and then set it aside.,Then you're going to measure out one cup of your starter.,Make sure not to use any metal measuring cups or bowls.,Add your one cup of starter to a glass or plastic bowl,,then add 2/3 of a cup of oil and one cup of sugar.,Stir it together until it's smooth.,Then you're going to add three large eggs, one at a time.,Make sure to stir between each egg addition.,After the third egg, you're also going to add,one teaspoon of vanilla extract.,Stir it together until it's nice and smooth and combined.,Once the eggs are all mixed in, add your flour mixture, and stir it together.,It's going to be a nice, thick quick bread dough.,At this point, once it's mixed together,,you can add chopped nuts or chocolate chips.,I'm dividing my dough in half and baking them,in two four by eight pans or nine by five pans, sprayed with nonstick cooking spray.,I'm going to bake one with cinnamon sugar on top,,and one that has chocolate chips in it.,You can do it both the same, or two different.,Bake at 325 degrees for 40 to 50 minutes.,Then it's time to prepare your starter,to give away to friends.,Measure out one cup of starter per person,,and add it to a plastic bag.,You're going to seal the plastic bag,and remove all the air, and then you can, just give it to your fr

Amish Friendship Bread Starter | Join Me For a Fun Project

Amish Friendship Bread Starter | Join Me For a Fun Project

welcome back to the kitchen guys my name,is Rachel and you're at that 1870s,Homestead and I am just thinking about, the holiday season coming up and winter, projects and fun things to keep me,occupied and busy in the house when it's,too cold to go outside, and maybe two years ago yeah so it's 20,20 because it was during the first start,of the pandemic I jumped on the, sourdough, bandwagon tried it never got much more, than like a discard use purposes I just, couldn't get it going, and sitting today reminiscing, thinking about the holidays coming up I,was reminded when I was a stay-at-home,mom so this is 20 years ago or ish,um,I was all about the Amish friendship, bread do you do any of you guys remember, that or do you still do it today,do you even know what it is it's like, the world's best, sweet bread and it was so addicting and, probably, two years running in my house I had,Amish, friendship bread going a starter going,at all times, well today I took a little bit more time, and just did a lot more research on it,you know like, you know it's still a thing or people, still doing it how I kept reminding, myself how to even do it and not only, since I've learned since then all about, sourdough starter it's very very similar, and we're going to get a starter started, today I want to take you through that, whole process and my plan this year for,the winter one of my main projects is to,teach myself all the ways to use my,Amish friendship bread starter to,inspire you guys to use it,um I think I know so I know because I,have history with this I believe Todd, and I are gonna like this so much more, than sourdough starter it's sweeter it's,not as sour but you can still use it,very similarly like you would use a,sourdough starter so we're gonna get, going on that, today's video is how to get a starter, started and then hopefully, probably every two weeks through the, winter because it's usually a 10-day,process to rebuild your starter after, you get it going I will be sharing,um ways to use your print Amish, friendship sourdough starter so let's,get going I'll bring you guys down here, and we'll get it mixed up,okay so first things first I have a,quarter cup of warm water,so we're just gonna put that in there, and I need um you need one packet of,yeast,or two and a quarter teaspoons,so,let's do that,so fun here in my house right now we've,got the back door open it's a beautiful, fall day and I hear the same Birds, that are here in the spring so they must,be migrating back down south,so is that two and a quarter teaspoon,so we're just gonna let this now sit,for five to ten minutes and just let the, yeast activate, and I do buy my yeast in bulk,um,and I keep, the yeast I'm not using in the freezer, and then just refill it so that's an,option for you if you're looking into, starting this it's probably a cheaper, way for you to get going as,um,you know or if you're looking into, starting bread making I should say,buy some buy your yeast,uh in bulk, okay my yeast is nice and bubbly,so we're gonna go in with,a cup of sugar, such an easy recipe to remember, let me grab my funnel real quick so one, important note I didn't mention at the, beginning you definitely want to use, something glass or non non-metallic,non-reactive to store your starter in so,now I'm adding a cup of sugar,my yeast sat there in the warm water, activating for about oh I don't know, five minutes or so,and we're gonna add a cup of flour, give that a stir, okay and a cup of milk,I'm not sure if it matters what kind of,milk we just buy shelf stable milk, because we're just not big milk drinkers,we mainly use it for recipes as needed, one cup of,men I'm going to stir this, and that's all that we do on day one, like I said this to get this going it's,a 10 day process,so I'll bring you back tomorrow for day, two, and we'll just keep going together, okay guys it is day two excuse the noise,I've got the air fryer going behind me,but day two what do you do with your,Amish, friendship bread starter so this is what,it did like it really got high and then,it started breaking away,um the nice thing, why I'm excited about this oh,and it smells, really really strong,um so I'm just gonna stir it and that's,what I got excited about when I pulled, this back out of the memory bank way, down deep,is you don't have to feed it every, single day so you don't end up with like,so much at the end that you're like, overrun with starter, and so we're just stirring it up,and that's all we're gonna do for days, two three four day five I will feed it,one time, and then we'll go through the same, process six seven and eight, six seven eight nine I think,we just stir, but you know what let's just follow, along together I'll make sure to say it,right and uh,in the video but,in case you're thinking just for a,second I want to stop here on day two in,case you're thinking Rachel yeah yeah,I'm I know it Amish, friendship bread is I know what the, starter is I'm not I don't want to do,this in my life,so what I learned is all the ways guys,it's not just sweet breads

Amish Friendship Bread Starter / Let's do this together!

Amish Friendship Bread Starter / Let's do this together!

okay so,today my beautiful friends,we're going to be doing something really, fun we're gonna start,a amish friendship bread starter, together, now some of y'all may already have some,of the this almost friendship bread, starter already going, and that's wonderful i've not had one, going for a while,so i'm gonna get another one started, and i want y'all to start one with me,and uh,this is gonna be a 10-day process but, don't get all nervous about it because, there's only two feedings that you have,to do,before we get to use this starter and, make something really good with it,so let's get started, okay let's get this easy starter going,so all you're going to need you want at,least a two-quart bow, some kind of two-quart container that, you can work with pretty easy,it needs to either be glass or ceramic,or plastic but you don't want to use,a metal bowl when you're making a,starter,so what we're going to do is i've got my,bowl here,i've got a fourth of a cup of warm water, and yes i'm using yeast that's one of,the things that we do use in our, almost starter it's different than your,old-fashioned cowboy sourdough starter,so i've got one packet and i really, don't think it matters,if it's just active dry yeast or if it's,instant, dry yeast i think either one is going to,work,so fourth a cup of warm water and your, packet of yeast and we're just going to,let this sit here for about 10 minutes, and let it,proof a little bit,in this bowl right here i've got a cup,of flour, just all-purpose flour now you can use, whatever kind of flour that you use if,you're gluten-free,whatever,i do hear people making, sourdough starter with gluten-free,flour so i've never done that,if you've done it let me know if you've,done it and it didn't work let me know, please, but uh i got the doors open gotta fly in,here, but anyways i've got a cup of,all-purpose flour,it's about that easy and i've got a cup,of sugar,so that's all we need right there i'm,just going to stir that a little bit,and i'm waiting for my,yeast to proof up a little bit,i mean this is so easy to get together,so while my yeast is sitting over here, doing its thing,i'm gonna put my glasses on and we're,going to get down here,to my uh recipe down here for the, starter and i'm going to show you,um the different steps day by day, because i know what makes people nervous,it's like oh i won't remember to feed it,or i'm going to kill it or something, and i understand but no this is a really, easy thing to do,so we're going to look at the recipe and, that way y'all see what's going on from, day one all the way to day 10.,so let's look at our recipe here,so number one it says in a small bowl, sprinkle the yeast over the warm water,to dissolve and let stand 10 minutes in,a 2 quart glass plastic or ceramic, container combine the flour and sugar, but do not use a metal bowl, then after that's done you're going to,stir in milk, and then dissolve yeast until your your, flour and sugar and we're going to do,that in just a minute, and then we're going to cover it loosely, and we're going to let it stand at room, temperature i'm just going to leave it,out here on my bar, until the mixture is bubbly now, this will be day one of your ten day, process which means,it is uh four o'clock,we're gonna say it's four o'clock so,tomorrow, when i watch i won't be home after five, but that's okay, but tomorrow we're gonna stay at four,o'clock, that's going to be day one of my process, okay day two you're gonna, just give it a stir now if you wanna do,this in a gallon ziploc bag,you can do that and i've seen people do,that so on day two you can either give,it a stir or if you put it in a gallon, ziploc bag, you're gonna just give it a good mush, then day three you're gonna give it,another stir, day four another stir, day five another stir day six,now my day six is going to be i think i,figured it,next tuesday i'll have to re-figure that,so next tuesday if i'm figuring right, will be my day six and that's when i'll,feed it,and i'm gonna add one cup of flour one,cup of sugar and one cup of milk, and give it a stir just loosely cover it,and put it right back where i had it on,my counter, day seven i'm gonna stir it,so what i'll do is i'll come in an,afternoon at the same time and i'll just, give it a stir every day the same about, the same time, day eight give it another stir i gotta, get down here we all see it,day nine give it another stir, okay day 10,that's your final feed and bake and, divide,so day 10 we're going to add 1 cup of,flour,1 cup of sugar 1 cup of milk and we're,going to mix it well, then since we're going to be baking, something that day,we're going to remove one cup to use in,our recipe, and then what i'll do is i'm going to,divide the rest of it up however much, that will be,i'm going to save me back one cup for, myself whatever's left,i'll put in ziploc bags one cup, each and i'll share it with somebody and, then they can continue, with the process the 10-day process and, make their own recipes,so this is why it's called amish, friendship, bread star

AMISH FRIENDSHIP BREAD RECIPE + 10 DAY PROCESS

AMISH FRIENDSHIP BREAD RECIPE + 10 DAY PROCESS

hey everyone welcome back to my channel, today i wanted to show you a quick and,fun recipe, for amish friendship bread not sure if,you've heard of it before and a lot of,you, may have but i have the recipe right, here it's very simple, very quick and this recipe if you've,never heard of it,i'm going to link the recipe down below, and, what it's about but basically this, batter that i'm about to make you're,about to,show you um it multiplies and you can, share it with friends and family, and the batter just keeps multiplying, and you, share it with whoever you want to share,it with you it's a 10 day process, you make the batter the first day and, then there's a 10 day process,to this batter you add more of the, ingredients, halfway and then you kind of mix you, know the ingredients, until baking day i'll link more of the, information in the description box you,can decide if you want to make it or not,it makes two loaves,um each cup of batter so it depends on,how much you want to keep and how much, you want to share, like i said it's really fun and i,haven't actually done this in a while, but um the last time i did it the bread, was really really good and you can add, whatever you want, when it's baking day you can add you, know, any kind of nuts or fruit you know some, people like to,add cranberries like dried cranberries,or even chocolate chips or,you know what whatever you like in your, bread but it's it's really good,so i'm going to show you really quick, how to do that so first the ingredients, you're going to need,is milk today i'm using almond milk, and you need yeast you need, sugar and flour, and that's basically it yep yeast,a warm water for the yeast and flour, sugar and milk, and that's it so simple so i like to put,my ingredients in a ziploc bag because,it's easier, you could put it in a bowl but i like to,put it in a bag,so i use the one gallon bag,and like i said it's just a bowl while, getting this ready i'm gonna get my,yeast ready so let me just move this for,for a quick second i'm going to take it,as for a pack of yeast but i just have,a container and i think it says a,fourth of a teaspoon i believe two and a,fourth of a teaspoon,of this yeast,so a teaspoon i'm gonna need, one two, fourths, okay that equals a packet, put that aside and then you add to that,a quarter cup of warm water,so i already warmed up some water here, and we're going to let that set for 10,minutes,we just give it a stir make sure it's,all incorporated,so i'll give this 10 minutes, set that aside so while that,is set aside for 10 minutes i'm going to,get the rest of the ingredients, ready i'm going gonna take the ziploc, bag, add a cup of each of flour, sugar and milk, just dump it one cup of flour, one cup of sugar, that out of the way,and one cup of milk okay before i add,the milk,i'm just gonna mix this up together, like it all combined, this is why i feel like it's easier, putting it in a ziploc bag you can just, mix it all up in here easy,it's already combined, and then i'm going to add a cup of milk,is that today i'm using almond milk but, regular milk, any kind of milk you have will do,add that in,let the air out,and you just mash everything to mix it,all together, you will end up last time i did this i,ended up with, because you end up keeping a cup of,batter but then you add on baking day,you add, more to that cup you add more milk you,add more sugar more flour, and i think i you, separate a cup in each and you know and, ziploc bags like this and you that's,what you give away,i ended up with one cup for myself and i,believe, four more cups that i gave away,so it can make a lot and then whoever, you give it to,adds more ingredients to the bag,and they separate it to four or five, cups they either keep what they want, and then give away to their friends or,family it's a really cool concept i like,it you can keep going,as long as as you want,so everything seems all mixed together, there's no lumps you have to keep in,mind,to always let the air out,and i usually give directions while, when i give the batter away to somebody,i'll show the process in this video i,think it's fun,i like it my,yeast is almost ready so i'm gonna come, back and maybe about another five, minutes, and add the yeast, okay it's been 10 minutes and i'm gonna, add, the yeast to the bag,it's all bubbly like it needs to be,again let the air out, close it and mix that all in there, they i believe there are some recipes, that, don't require yeast but i've always used, this one,and i love the way the bread comes out,so that's it that's how quick and easy, that was,so now what i'm gonna do is literally, just leave this bag, here on the counter like i said make, sure the ziploc bag,is sealed it's closed,um and if i confused you at all with the, directions,i'll leave the link in the description, box so you can read it,and i will also put the 10 day, process in the description box as well,so that's about it,very little clean up very little, ingredients i'm going to show the, process,of every day and at the end of the 10,days we'll have some

AMISH FRIENDSHIP BREAD-- MAKING STARTER & BREAD

AMISH FRIENDSHIP BREAD-- MAKING STARTER & BREAD

hi i'm helge with hogs pennsylvania, cooking today we're going to do,something i haven't made for a while but,i've been meaning to and now is the time,to do it because in the fall when i,normally would like to do it i never, have time so,what am i making amish friendship brad,so today this is going to be a,two-part series this is going to be part, one this is making the original starter, that gets you started to,grow the, yeast mixture and starter for the, various loads that come, later on down the road it's a 10 day, process,so this is day one where we do the, initial, starter and then i will give the, instructions of how that follows through, and then in the second part of the, second video that will be a part two to,this we'll make the actual bread and, there's a million variations for it,this is a really nice basic sweet bread,it's not a sourdough it's a sweet bread, and it's really nice with fruit with, nuts with chocolate chips you can, customize this so many ways,so,even though it makes tons and this is,why they call it friendship bread it's,sort of like, friendship letters that you know got, passed on and,uh grow to everybody, for the home baker it's it's can be,overwhelming, but i'm doing a batch or a couple, batches locals might look out and get, some starter but i also am going to do a,bunch of lows and freeze them for this, winter,so,let's get to it,all that we need,to do this,is,a cup of flour a cup of sugar a cup of,milk and one, quarter ounce, package of active dry yeast, now you will need through the week, two more cups of flour two more cups of,sugar and two more cups of milk and, that's added at intervals to make your, starter grow and to feed your starter, and i forgot the warm water you need, warm water to activate the yeast,so,i'm going to use my one of my batter, bowls here from pepper chef of course,we're going to add in our, yeast, and,a quarter cup of warm water, and we want to stir that and,get it dissolved good,um,you want the warm water to be around 145,degrees or so you don't want it boiling, you just want it warm, and stir that around and we're going to,get that dissolved so we're going to let, that sit about 10 minutes, before we do the rest of this, while that's dissolving,i'm going to,in another bowl combine my,flour and sugar, and we're going to mix these really well, and you want to make sure that your, flour is really mixed in well, because otherwise when you add your, yeast mixture and milk it'll really, clump up,okay so we've had time for the starter,to fully dissolve as you can see here,so,we're going to,slowly, pour that in,and then we'll just, slowly just pour in the milk, and i do this in a bigger bowl, because the stuff's gonna grow you're,gonna add,you know another cup of milk another cup,of sugar another cup of flour twice, that's another six cups, and this stuff grows,it's alive, and, you can see doing it the way that i did,it,we don't have any clumps in our,in our, mixture here and the other thing too is,i let my milk come out to room, temperature,so it's not cold you don't want that to,hinder the, warm yeast, starting to work,so,consider this day one,of the,ten day process, and i'm just going to,cover this, and set this on the counter, there we go,and set it aside so,i will include the directions down,in the recipe below of course, but here's what's going to happen, you know the next few days,so this is day one,on day two three and four you're going,to stir this with a spoon, and that's to make sure that it's,getting air and can grow and bubble, day number five stir in one cup of flour, one cup of sugar and one cup of milk, days six, through nine, day six day seven, day eight and day nine only stir, and then day ten,we stir in one more cup of flour one, more cup of sugar and one more cup of,milk and then we remove one cup to make, the first bread, and the way this works is the friendship, starters you then give two cups to,friends along with the recipe, and, your your, favorite, bread recipe and you store the remaining, one cup of starter in a container in the, refrigerator or beginning the 10-day,process over again beginning with step, two i might also add that this starter, can be frozen for later but i want to,make a bunch of bread up on my long, break uh to have in the freezer for gift, giving for this christmas and for my own, self because i love this stuff,so,i'll see you in a few days i'll show you, when i add it here um,midway and at the end so you can see how, this grows and how it does,so i haven't done this every day,but this is our, amish friendship brett starter, this is day nine,i wanna say,yep stay nine, and uh so we started this,on day one,uh i showed you how to mix the, ingredients, then on day,two three four and five,i just, stir it like this and i mean you could, see it start working right away,on day six i added another cup of flour, sugar and milk, and that keeps feeding it like i said, this makes, numerous loaves of bread,if you only want one loaf of bread you, just do the original, day but i'm going to do a bunch here all,at once and put

Traditional Amish Friendship Bread | Cinnamon & Sugar Delight!

Traditional Amish Friendship Bread | Cinnamon & Sugar Delight!

welcome back friends here at that 1870s,Homestead and my name's Rachel and we've,just been doing a lot of fun things with, restarting Amish friendship bread,it's probably been, she's my oldest it just turned 26.,and I used to make this when they were, toddlers all the time okay that's just,my oven preheating and I haven't made it,and probably close to 20 years, back then the only thing I ever did with,it was make the yummy delicious,um,Amish friendship bread proper which is,the most delicious cinnamon sugar bread, and,um this is what an Amish friendship, bread starter looks like if you haven't,been following the series and it's kind,of like a sourdough starter but it's,really a sweet sweet sourdough starter, but you can use it really similarly I've,never had success myself just getting a,sourdough starter proper started but, with Amish friendship bread starters I,have no problem getting those going, and I've so far made blueberry pancakes, was my first choice,um a bunch of pie crust or pie crust to,put in the freezer in advance of holiday, baking season but today we are gonna, make the actual Amish friendship bread,so it is a lot of ingredients not as,simple as the last two ingredient, recipes I made so I'll bring you guys, down here and we'll get to mixing it up,okay so first I'm going to start with, putting together all of my dry, ingredients and I need two cups of flour, foreign, flour,a half a teaspoon of baking soda, one and a half teaspoons of baking, powder,a half a teaspoon of salt, and cinnamon, two teaspoons, and then we need,um you need one large box of vanilla, instant pudding I buy my,instant pudding and bulk from our Amish, store,so that's right around usually five, ounces, oops a little bit too much, all right, let's give those dry ingredients a mix,and this is like the moistest I mean, you talk you think banana Bread's moist,do you think,um zucchini breads moist I don't know, what it is about this recipe but it is,absolutely divine all right, okay so we have our dry ingredients, mixed I'm just going to make it well in,the center we're adding three eggs, aren't those some beautiful eggs, three eggs let's see a half a cup of,milk I think yep,and some oil,one full cup of oil maybe that's the, ticket in in that pudding obviously adds, some good moisture content, and anything else with respect to oh I,need to add my sugar, give you a teaspoon of or a cup of sugar, all right, foreign, and how much vanilla do we need,a vanilla vanilla a half a teaspoon,is a half a teaspoon Ever Enough though,of vanilla,no,alrighty so let's now mix all this, together, just kind of beat up those eggs a little, bit in the center and then we'll slowly, start folding in our dry ingredients, foreign, nuts, cranberries walnuts blueberries,um,pecans well that's a nut but really is a,pecano nut because there's no banana, than a pecan what else could we add to,this oh chocolate chips, all right so that's our basic, bread dough and now you never want to,over mix your, breads when you're making breads like, this,um,I don't know why that is I just know,it's a rule and I make sure to follow it,so once those dry ingredients are,Incorporated,we've got them, all Incorporated we're going to get this, into our loaf cans,oh,guys,we never even added, the Amish friendship bread starter,I was like why does it not look right,Lord have mercy well it wouldn't be,Amish friendship bread without the Amish, friendship bread starter I've been just, doing too many things today, that's what we'll chalk it up to so one,cup of Amish friendship bread starter, foreign Ty,oh,well heaven's sakes, mine may not turn out perfect to this, time because I did not get this mixed in,with the same time with my wet, ingredients but we'll do the best,so if you're just interested in starting,an Amish friendship bread starter I do,have a video on that, and, this is this would be considered day 10.,so day 10.,you're done with the feeding cycle and, you're ready to cook with it or gift it,and share it,with this recipe right here is probably, the most widely known recipe to use your,Amish friendship bread starter okay got, that gun Incorporated now now let's try, again, okay that's looking better, and this is absolutely, bull lickable good,if you grew up in a household where you, licked the bowls we did,and whoever was closest got the first, call, who wants to lick the bowl,so if Mom was baking sometimes I would, run in and somebody got to lick the bowl, and then if she was using beaters, somebody got to like the Beaters, and so a lot of times the beaters were,my favorite I would go in and say can I,have the Beaters, all right so we got our Breads in,just gonna kind of level them out a,little bit, now, lickable good now the fun part you need,to have a cup of cinnamon sugar made and,I usually keep cinnamon sugar on hand, just for fun treats and things to have,so we're just going to sprinkle on some,of our cinnamon sugar, let's sprinkle this one with some, all right let's just give that a little,Pat in,now while the oven's heating up I'm just, going to set

How to Make Amish Cinnamon Bread (Friendship Bread)

How to Make Amish Cinnamon Bread (Friendship Bread)

amish cinnamon bread also known as,friendship bread is a type of chain, letter you see someone gifts you a,portion of bread starter teaches you how,to care for it how to make bread with it,and then how to pass a portion of it,onto yet another friend and today, bridget is going to show us how to make,it so we're going to make it very easy, this is basically a quick bread but it's,got that cinnamon flavor that we're,looking, okay so we're making two loaves of bread, here we've got three and three quarters, cups of all-purpose flour and three cups,of sugar wow this is a sweet bread sugar, adds moisture this is a very very moist, bread and we've got a tablespoon of,ground cinnamon and then we have a,couple of leaveners here this is one and,a half teaspoons of baking powder and, three quarter teaspoon of baking soda, and three quarter teaspoon of salt just, right in there, all right so enough of that let's move,on down to our wet ingredients now, something that we found in a lot of the, more modern day versions is boxed, vanilla pudding mix well we were really, curious what is it doing in there what,we found is yes it added sweetness, actually too much after the amount of,sugar that's in there so we mixed it but,it did have a little bit of a custardy, thing that it was giving so we're going,to make our own custard here we've got, three large eggs and i'm going to beat, them just a little bit,so we have one and three quarter cups of,whole milk, and, one and a third cups of vegetable oil,and we have a little bit of vanilla just, two teaspoons, all right so we're just whisking this a,little bit here, that looks good so now the wet, ingredients gonna go into the dry, ingredients, well this bread looks really easy to,make it's super easy i love it when you, don't have to pull out a stand mixer oh,yeah the hardest part is not stirring it,too fast at the beginning basically we,just want this to come together until,it's just mixed but there's going to be,a few streaks or lumps in there that's,okay just making sure,it's mixed on the bottom there like i,said some lumps are good it's all going,to even out all right let's just set, that aside for just a second while we,prepare our pans again we're making two, loaves these are eight and a half by,four and a half inch loaf pans if you,use something that's slightly bigger or,glass pans the instructions are a little, bit different but we do have those, instructions on our website we do need,to get these pants so that they're,non-stick but we also want to add a,little bit more flavor so i've got two, teaspoons of oil we're going to add a,about a teaspoon to each pan here and, just brush it all over the sides and, bottom,i did try this with vegetable oil spray,no you have to use the oil, just stuck forever to the pan that's it,so not only are we going to coat this, with oil but a little bit of cinnamon, sugar,as it bakes it's going to get a nice, crunchy outside sounds delicious so this,is a half a cup of granulated sugar, and i've got one teaspoon more of that, really good cinnamon, now we're going to add two tablespoons,to each pan,and i'm going to give you that one if,you wouldn't mind kicking that sugar, around besides two sides two please all, right we'll set the rest of this sugar, aside just for a second, how's that, fabulous, all right, and now we'll go ahead and divvy this up,i think that looks pretty good what's,that look even yeah pretty even,so now we're going to top it,because we want more of that cinnamon, sugar crust so the rest of this this is,another two tablespoons about on each, loaf, now this is it for the bread wow yeah so,it goes together really quickly, all right so all we have to do now is,bake it all right so 325 for a little, over an hour it's about an hour five to,hour 10 minutes,oh,bridgette that smells delicious i think, they're done,oh yeah i think they're done but really, the best way to tell is to take a paring, knife and just put it right into the, center and it should come out just maybe,a crumb or two but mostly clean we can't,eat it though it's got to cool in the, pans on this wire rack for at least an,hour it's a lot of sugar in there a lot,of oil everything has to cool down, compact a little bit hopefully it'll,start coming away from the edges just a,bit too so when we turn them out we'll,get a beautiful crust okay, long hour huh, you're still here hi let's get some, bread in here these waited for an hour, now we'd have to release them out of the, pans otherwise it's really crunchy,so i'm going to take a paring knife and, just run it around the sides of the, bread to release it i'm going as close,to the pan as i possibly can,all right and i'm just going to tilt the, pan,oh there we go,i want to put this, right back up,just like that let me do the second one, here, how's that, those are so pretty pretty yeah, you ready i'm gonna use a serrated knife,so i can make sure that i get through, that beautiful crust and not disturb too, much of it there we go isn't that, beautiful wow,the interior crumb is so even, you're going
