you know there are other types of hot,chocolate other than just the powder and,the water which by the way if you're,doing powder and water i mean like not,judging you but like bro come on,okay so today we're making hot chocolate,but not just any hot chocolate we're,gonna make all kinds of different hot,chocolate and i'm gonna taste it and i'm,gonna talk to you about it and we're,gonna figure out which is the best hot,chocolate choice of the year now like,look at the end of the day you can do it,however you want to do it i can't help,but feel like anybody who does it,differently than i do is just,automatically wrong if you have any,suggestions on what you want to see more,videos recipes whatever comment dm me on,instagram all those beautiful things but,with all that said let's make this shall,we so first up for consistency this test,we're going to make a classic instant,hot chocolate you know a couple of,spoonfuls of hot chocolate mix in this,case two and a half tablespoons or 20,grams of mix one cup or 236 milliliters,of hot milk oh look i spilled again,really nice mix it up and uh,marshmallows that are way too big,uh i'm trying not to be judgmental okay,yeah i mean it's good tastes like,childhood whenever you went to name,brand coffee shop,to get a hot chocolate and you don't,really care how good it is you just want,that general taste,all right it's not sugar i got more to,go all right next we're going to try a,little harder a simple single serving,hot chocolate starts with 1 cup or 236,milliliters of whole milk 1 tablespoon,or 18 grams of heavy cream a quarter,teaspoon or two grams of vanilla extract,one and a half tablespoons or 18 grams,of brown sugar and 2 tablespoons or 13,grams of unsweetened cocoa powder place,that over medium heat whisking,occasionally until hot and dissolved you,know serve with some marshmallows or,whipped cream and then grate some chalk,over that hot chalk,it's i mean automatically it smells a,whole lot better the shredded chocolate,uh,lends its helping hand of course but,oh yeah,right off the bat for how quickly this,comes together i would say it's pretty,pretty good actually way more chocolatey,way deeper flavor and you can control,the sweetness which is humongous that's,huge because not everybody likes a super,sweet hot chocolate myself included,you've ever bit into 100 chocolate about,as sweet as dirt,which isn't sweet next we're going to,make an italian style hot chocolate also,known as chocolate calder sorry to the,italians watching this i mean you no,harm now you'll need one and a half cups,or 354 milliliters of whole milk for,this but first add four ounces of finely,chopped dark chocolate to a small,saucepan plus a splash of your whole,milk begin heating that over medium heat,and add 2 tablespoons or 30 grams of,granulated sugar and 1 tablespoon or 6,grams of cocoa powder stir occasionally,until melted now while you're waiting,for that to melt though mix together 1,tablespoon or 9 grams of corn starch,with a small splash of your whole milk,once your chocolate is melted add the,rest of your milk and make sure to add,it slowly while whisking constantly then,continue to heat until all that liquid,is nice and hot then whisk in your,cornstarch slurry continue heating and,whisking until thick end pour into a mug,with whipped cream and dust with cocoa,powder which i don't really know how,realistically italian this is thank you,motorcycle you know all the other cars,are like and then the motorcycle's like,it,is thick 18 c's and you know how i feel,about things that are thick so obviously,this is my favorite one you can even,tell by the way it sounds when i sip it,listen,that sounds thick very good thank you,last but not least is a mexican hot,chocolate first you're going to want to,take a single cinnamon stick and place,it under your broiler and char only one,side of it then you're going to need one,seeded dried chili of choice i used to,smoke new mexican chili just be careful,the chili isn't too spicy this is almost,a little bit spicy boy hours in a small,sauce pot combine 8 ounces or 226 grams,of dark chocolate about 70 cocoa finely,chopped one and a half tablespoons or 18,grams of brown sugar half of a vanilla,bean pod scraped of its seeds plus the,pods themselves,cinnamon stick your chili a small pinch,of salt and one and a half cups or 354,milliliters of whole milk heat and stir,until mixture is hot and steamy and,chocolate is melted,and then just let it sit for 10 minutes,remove the vanilla bean pods and,cinnamon stick then blend that mixture,in a blender on high speed until smooth,pour through a fine mesh strainer and,enjoy with toppings of choice,again traditional,not exactly delicious yes,humongous depth of flavor rich it's got,a little bit of saltiness to it and the,smoky flavor from the chili and it's,spicy and it's sweet and it's chocolatey,very nice,and i really don't want to drink any,more of this but i really want hey guys and welcome back to crouton,crackerjacks today I'm going to show you,how to make a single serving of hot,cocoa now maybe it's cold outside,there's a foot of snow maybe it's icy,maybe you just want a nice cup of warm,hot cocoa you don't have any cocoa mix,in the house you don't want to go to the,store get any well it's super easy to,make just a single cup of hot cocoa with,ingredients that you probably already,have in your pantry so without further,ado let me show you how easy this is to,do so obviously you're going to need a,mug for this this is a 14 ounce mug you,need at least a 14 ounce mug or a mug,that will hold 14 ounces to that I'm,going to add in two tablespoons of,granulated sugar as well as one and a,half teaspoons of unsweetened cocoa,powder and also just a pinch of salt by,pinch I literally mean a pinch just a,few grains go ahead and put that into,your mug and using it for if you just,want to stir these ingredients together,you want to make sure that you get your,cocoa powder and salt mixed into that,sugar that's going to help the cocoa,powder dissolve in your milk and I am,using cocoa powder for this recipe,instead of chocolate because hot,chocolate using chocolate chips never,works out for me so I always use hot,cocoa I'll always use cocoa powder for,this so I'm just gonna go ahead and mix,that together set it off to the side,now of course we're gonna need some milk,for this so I've got a small saucepan,here over medium heat I'm going to add,in one in a quarter cups of whole milk,if you'd like this lighter go ahead and,use 1% or skim milk if you'd like it a,little bit creamier and more decadent,substitute out a quarter of the cup of,milk for half-and-half or cream even if,you'd like it ultra rich but just go,ahead and stir this over medium heat and,you want to bring this up to temperature,but you do not want to let this boil you,just want to get this milk nice and warm,and you want to do it slowly you don't,want to put this on high heat because,again it will scorch at the bottom so,just stick with medium heat stir this,constantly now once your milk is nice,and hot and steamy go ahead and take it,off of heat and you want to add just a,few ladlefuls if you will spoonfuls,whatever of your hot milk into your,cocoa mug you don't want to add all your,at one time because you're just gonna,end up making a mess so I'm just gonna,add just a little bit and I'm going to,stir this really really well to make,sure that all the sugar and cocoa gets,dissolved in my mouth this might take a,few seconds don't rush it just give it,time and once you were confident that,everything is dissolved go ahead and add,in the rest of your milk and be careful,and try not to spill over the side of,mug like I did here you know be a little,bit more careful with this and again,using your fork or a whisk if you want,to go ahead and stir this up really well,I will warn you though don't use a spoon,for this step spoons really aren't meant,for mixing so stick to the fork and then,finally to finish this off I'm just,gonna add just a few drops of vanilla,extract and that's gonna really help,balance out all the flavors and make,your hot cocoa something special so go,ahead and mix that in and you can serve,that up just the way it is or you could,top it with some fresh whipped cream,like I like to do I just took some heavy,cream with a little bit of powdered,sugar whipped it till it was stiff put,it into a piping bag and I'm just gonna,pipe some whipped cream right on top,this step here is strictly optional it's,up to if you want to do it but that,whipped cream does have a tendency to,melt into the hot chocolate and it just,makes it superb so there you go that's,really all there is to making a single,cup of hot cocoa I hope you guys enjoyed,if you like this recipe and give it a,try,let me know how you like it down below,give this video a thumbs up if you,enjoyed it subscribe for more,deliciousness and to keep up to date on,all my latest videos thanks so much for,watching and we'll see you next time

- Today, I'm gonna show you,how to make the best hot chocolate.,This recipe is lusciously thick,,velvety smooth,,and it's perfect for warming up,throughout the entire winter season.,Now you may be thinking,,"Oh, I know how to make hot chocolate," but do you?,This isn't hot cocoa,,which is an entirely different recipe.,And it's not one of those store-bought mixes.,This is your classic American style hot chocolate,with a little Downshiftology flare.,And I think once you make it,,you will agree that it is worth the splurge.,So let's dive right in.,An essential ingredient,in making hot chocolate is,,you guessed it, chocolate.,And this is what differentiates,hot chocolate from hot cocoa,because hot cocoa only uses cocoa powder.,It's also why hot cocoa has a thinner,,more watery consistency,and hot chocolate has a thicker,,more luscious consistency,because there's actual melted chocolate in it.,You'll need four ounces of chocolate,and you can use your favorite type.,Though, I recommend a semi-sweet or dark chocolate,that's hovering around the 50 to 60% range.,And whether you use chocolate bars,or chocolate chips,,just make sure to finely chop it,so it melts and blends completely in the milk.,So speaking of milk,,you can use your favorite dairy,or dairy-free milk in this recipe.,They all work beautifully.,And while a whole milk or coconut milk,may be a bit creamier,due to their higher fat content,,I've made this recipe,with pretty much every milk under the sun,and every single version is delicious.,Add four cups of your milk of choice,to a pot on medium heat,and then add three tablespoons,of cacao powder or cocoa powder.,And yes, you still wanna add,a little bit of cocoa powder in this recipe,for that rich, layered chocolate flavor.,Whisk that into the milk,as the milk starts to warm up,and then add your sweetener.,Many recipes, add a half a cup of sugar,,but I think that's far too much.,Don't forget that the chocolate itself,already has sugar in it.,So I find just two tablespoons,of maple syrup or honey,adds that perfect touch of sweetness.,At this stage, you need to keep whisking,until the cocoa powder,is fully dissolved in the milk,and there's no more clumps.,And most of the clumps,should naturally go away,as the milk temperature increases,to a gentle simmer.,You'll also notice it,start to froth a bit as it simmers,and that's fine.,Just remember to not walk away from it,as milk can easily boil over on the stove.,Once the milk is at that low simmer stage,,you can add the finely chopped chocolate.,Just dump it all in and continue to stir.,As the chocolate melts,,you'll notice the color change,from a light brown to a deep dark brown.,While it may seem like the chocolate melted right away,,keep whisking it for about five minutes on a simmer.,This will ensure that you don't get any chocolate clumps,in the bottom of your mug or cup.,Now this step is completely optional,,but I figured I'd add a little whipped cream,to my hot chocolate today.,And while I used cashew milk for the hot chocolate,,I'm using dairy whipped cream on top.,I guess that's how I roll sometimes,as someone who's more dairy light,rather than dairy free.,But I do have a recipe,for dairy free coconut whipped cream,and a recipe for homemade marshmallows,if you'd like to add those,and I will link to them below.,At this stage, my hot chocolate is done.,It's just staying warm on the stove,until I'm ready for it.,So I'll pour the hot chocolate into a mug.,And if you are adding any toppings,,just make sure to leave a little bit of room at the top,so you don't overflow your mug.,I'll add a few dollops of whipped cream,and then a little shaky shake,of cacao powder on top.,And I'm doing this over a larger plate,so I don't make a complete mess.,(pleasant music),I hope you guys enjoyed,this classic hot chocolate recipe today.,And if you did,,make sure to give it a thumbs up,,share it with your family and friends,,and I will see you again in next week's video.,(pleasant music continues)

hello you guys,tis the season for hot chocolate,i thought i could share with you guys,today two different types of hot,chocolate and italian style hot,chocolate,and an american style hot chocolate i,grew up drinking,both types guys both are delicious but,very different from each other,and at the end of the video i'm going to,tell you which one is my,favorite and let me know which one you,prefer which one,is your favorite that being said let's,get started,and let's make these,so we're going to start by making the,italian hot chocolate first,to a saucepan over low heat i'm going to,add some milk,and you're going to reserve three to,four tablespoons of milk and you'll see,why in just a moment,in this other bowl i have some cocoa,powder and corn starch we're going to,make a slurry so go ahead and add the,remaining milk,and you want to mix until you get a,smooth paste,this will just prevent lumps in your hot,chocolate now in italy,as you just saw we do like to add,cornstarch to our hot chocolate this,will result in a much,thicker and creamier hot chocolate i've,also added the sugar the sugar quantity,in this recipe is variable,if you want a sweeter hot chocolate you,can add more sugar,you're going to give everything a good,stir and this mixture needs to come to a,gentle simmer,if it doesn't come to a simmer the,cornstarch will not activate,so keep an eye on this and as soon as,this starts to thicken up,you can turn off your stove and stir in,the dark chocolate,the heat of the milk mixture will melt,the chocolate so continue,stirring and you'll get the most,beautiful smooth hot chocolate,okay so moving on we're going to make,the american hot chocolate and then,we'll compare the two so again you're,going to start out with some milk,we're serving two to three tablespoons,of milk just like we did before,here i have some cocoa powder the ratio,of cocoa powder to milk,is much less and there's no corn starch,go ahead and make the slurry again,before adding this to the milk and the,sugar quantity again is variable in this,recipe,now because there's no corn starch we,really don't have to wait for this to,boil,guys as soon as it starts to heat up,it's basically done so it's much faster,to make,so let this heat up and then stir in the,chocolate,which is much less than the chocolate,that we added in the italian,hot chocolate okay so mix until the,chocolate fully dissolves and this is,ready to enjoy,as you can see american hot chocolate is,much thinner,it's very similar to a hot chocolate,milk let's say,it's also much lighter in flavor because,of the low ratio cocoa powder chocolate,to milk,italian hot chocolate on the other hand,is almost like eating,a thin chocolate pudding it's so thick,and creamy that we usually like to serve,it with a spoon,and flavor-wise it has bold and intense,chocolate flavor because,of the high ratio of chocolate to cocoa,powder to milk,that being said you can play around with,the ratios and develop,your own perfect hot chocolate i,personally love both,however if i have to choose i know this,may come as a shocker to some people,especially my mother,i would choose american hot chocolate,because,it's much lighter i'm definitely able to,finish a whole cup of american hot,chocolate whereas italian is definitely,more challenging let's say i love to add,a lot of mini marshmallows to mine,there's no such thing as too many,marshmallows guys,but i'd love to know which one you,prefer

to make our homemade hot chocolate mix,we're going to need cocoa powder,powdered milk white sugar and a little,bit of salt the measurements I'm going,to give you are to fill up a 1 quart,mason jar if you want to make it small,or bigger you can adjust the proportions,and I've done the proportions to my,taste so if you want it a little bit,sweeter a little bit less you can play,around with how much sugar you're going,to add so to make enough hot chocolate,for 1 quart we're going to need 2 cups,of sugar and we're just going to put all,of our ingredients into our Bowl we're,going to need 1 cup of powdered milk and,1 cup of cocoa and then we're just going,to do a little dash of salt basically,about a half teaspoon once all of your,ingredients are in the bowl we're going,to mix it you can either hand mix by,hand or I like to use the whisk,attachment on my hand mixer just makes,it a little bit easier and we're only,mixing this just for a little bit,and what it does is it combined all of,our ingredients nicely and also aerates,the cocoa and other powders so that's it,we're done to put my hot chocolate mix,in I like to use a canning funnel it's a,little bit wider so it makes me easier,to put things in and you just kind of,dump everything in don't worry if it,doesn't fit quite right just get all of,the ingredients in here,you'll notice that there's a lot left in,the funnel that's okay,just kind of shake your jars shake the,funnel and you'll find that it'll fit in,nicely if you find it's too far up to,the top you can also just put your cover,on and lid and just shake it and that,will also help the powder to settle so,it fills in your jar you have a little,bit more space so if you need to keep,filling in you can I like to label,everything that way I know exactly what,is in the jar when I made it and some,basic instructions so to use your,homemade hot chocolate mix you're going,to use two tablespoons for every cup,that you make so one two and then you,pour in your hot water or hot milk my,preference is milk it's a little bit,more richer tasting and I just stir as I,pour in the milk and there is your,homemade hot chocolate mix if you take a,look in the notes I'll also post some,variations of different flavors that you,can make and add to the basic hot,chocolate mix
