Food Theory: I SOLVED KFC's Secret Recipe! (KFC Chicken)

so has anyone actually ever figured out, colonel sanders's secret recipe blend of,11 herbs and spices, dozens upon dozens of individuals claim,to have solved the world-renowned,mystery but which of them,if any should we believe should we,believe the colonel's own nephew who, used to mix the spices himself when he,was a child, the scientist who chemically analyzed, kfc's ingredients in a laboratory or,should we believe, kfc the multinational corporation that, has nothing to gain and, everything to lose by the recipe, becoming public knowledge who claims to,this very day quote,no one's ever been right well never fear, theorists because today's food theory, will answer it all,we're putting the most legitimate, contenders to the test as well as our, own, spoiler alert i think we've got it,hey guys welcome to food theory where, today we're doing something very scary, actually cooking cooking food oh my gosh, and not just cooking any food we are, cooking perhaps, one of the best kept secret foods in all,of history, colonel sanders secret recipe, what do you think the secret is matthew,i think the secret, the secret is love oh man and i hear i,was thinking it was just like, little clippings of his beard that had, fallen into the chicken batter so i,think everyone can agree that kfc's 11,infamous herbs and spices are one of the, most renowned secret recipes,in food history and we've found a lot,of different recipes that say that, they've cracked the code, and today we're going to put them to the, test yeah so we have five different dupe, recipes that we're going to be trying, today,um some of them are crowdsourced some of,them come from food scientists, and some of them even come from colonel, sanders himself, question mark let's get going yeah, there's a lot to cover today, and a lot of chicken that needs to be,fried so,let's stop throwing our bowls around and, start, cooking as we throw our bowls in the, ring it's important to keep in mind that, recreating kfc's original recipe is a,bit like hitting a moving target, people have been trying to get the, recipe right since before i was born, and during that time the taste of kfc's,chicken has changed to a certain degree, the secret 11 herbs and spices almost, certainly haven't but we know for a fact, that kfc has tweaked other aspects of,the recipe and preparation process, like adopting new frying oils that, contain fewer trans fats, even the late colonel sanders believed, his recipe was altered to a noticeable, degree, during his own lifetime shortly after, selling kentucky fried chicken in 1964,he began voicing displeasure about, perceived recipe changes being made, under kfc's new ownership,as a result some of the recipe, contenders we're looking at today seek,to recreate the colonel's true original, recipe before kfc corporate took over, other recipe contenders seek to recreate, the taste of kfc's original recipe the,way we've come to know and love it,in more recent decades in recent years, kfc has adopted soybean oil as its, frying oil of choice in many locations, especially here in the u.s,since we'll be comparing our recipe, contenders against contemporary kfc, chicken fried and soybean oil we're,gonna fry all of our contender, recipes in soybean oil too last thing,i'll mention it's well known that kfc, fries their chicken in pressure fryers, which not only fry the chicken faster, but also give kfc's fried chicken its, distinct extra crispy texture, sadly i didn't have one of those in the, kitchen so today's contender recipes are, gonna have to settle for the deep fryer, steph and i promise to judge them not on,texture but, taste and taste alone and also to be,fair our chicken totally turned out, crispier, just saying now without further ado, let's put our first contender to the, test, this recipe was developed by author and,tv host todd wilbur,so todd wilbur for those who don't know,is actually famous for recreating, famous recipes he's done the big mac,he's done wendy's chili,he's done a whole bunch of secret famous, recipes that you shouldn't technically,be able to make at home, including the kfc original recipe do you, really need someone to recreate the big, mac, the commercials tell you what's in it,special sausage cheese pickles onions, and a sesame seed butter well there's,two, patties special sauce special sauce, what's that, isn't it just thousand island dressing,i don't what he's also done mrs fields, cookies, anyway i thought that was interesting, that doesn't sound delicious i know i,love this man why,can we hire him i feel like this is a,person who should be on this channel,he's already a best-selling author who's,been on like every major talk show he,doesn't need us,but has he been on youtube before we can, poorly animate,a stick figure of him for years, that does sound like a high value, proposition we should call him we should, call us up todd wilbur well let's see,how his recipe works out first and then, all right yeah okay good point now the, reason we're starting with this recipe,is because, todd wilbur on top of being a guy who's,tale

I Stole Colonel Sanders Secret Recipe

I Stole Colonel Sanders Secret Recipe

one of the world's best kept food, secrets is colonel sanders original, recipe for kfc and there's a common, misconception that his ultra secret, seasoning is only stored in one place,it's actually in two places the first is,locked in the safe in the legal, department of the kfc headquarters in,kentucky inside is the only existing, copy of the original written out kfc, recipe signed by colonel sanders himself, along with 11 vials containing various, herbs and spices so we know there are, exactly 11 herbs and spices rumor has it,only one person in the world knows the, actual combination for the sake and only, two people know the 11 herbs and spices, and the actual amounts of each so,naturally my first attempt to get the, recipe was to send someone dressed as,colonel sanders himself who by the way, died in 1980 to the kfc headquarters in,an attempt to get the original recipe, not surprisingly that didn't work but as,i said there are not one but two hard, copies out there one of course being the, original and the other a paper photocopy,it's in a maximum security nuclear, bunker in sweden called the pionen, bunker one of the most secure vaults on,the planet it's a cold war facility a,hundred feet below the surface of the, ground it became quickly clear to me,that we'd never get our hands on a paper, copy of the recipe so i did even more, research kfc is so secretive that they, used two different companies to blend, the recipe together half the ingredients, are blended by griffith laboratories, which then sends that to mccormick and, they add the other half there personally,i think they should then send it along,to the osmo warehouse to get a little, bit of flaky self in there but that's,just me after getting that physical copy, failed i spent weeks learning everything, there is to know about kfc i searched, through online forums and scrutinized, every supposed leaked recipe out there i,then took some notes and eventually hit,the road to visit a few locations and, make some phone calls along the way,yes hello i have an allergy to onions, and garlic in terms of the seasoning i'm,just trying to figure out what would be,in there regarding the original i'm,afraid i can't share what all is in,those but i do believe there is at least, onion powder in it so you're saying you, don't know the original recipe at all,huh i do not it has not been shared with,me whatever until you can give me on,what would be in there it does have, garlic powder in it it does have lunch, but there is okay thank, you we are approaching our first, location here with the goal of course to,continue checking off the ingredients on,this list i will get that secret recipe,i just had a quick question does the um,seasoning for the chicken have a basil,or oregano for,um,allergy purposes no no it doesn't no any, time do you know no,thank you for calling kfc hey how are,you so add a quick question is there um,any mustard seed in the original chicken, sandwich i'm just allergic to it does it,say if there's any mustard powder or,meat in there of course the original, recipe does have the secret original, recipe seasoning so it might just not be,informed on there it definitely has salt, and pepper though right i can't have, that either i'm pretty allergic to salt, and pepper yeah it's definitely, definitely got something over okay i'm,gonna be perfectly honest with you i'm,just i'm just trying to steal the recipe, right now,uh well we just got back in the chat, sorry oh thanks so much for trying to,help us we are pulling up to our second, kfc as you probably noticed we didn't,get much information out of the first, one so let's hope this one's a little, bit more helpful it's time to see what i,can find out from the employees,hi hey how are you doing quick question,i have a friend in the car that doesn't,like to turn ingredients in the chicken, sandwich do you know there's like thyme, basil msg and seasoning,no idea, that's okay you know someone that knows,it's like thyme basil or msg, they don't have it okay thank you so,much i'll be right back,so far from all the research we've done,in the restaurants it seems like the, employees are lying to us because i can,see the actual specs of seasoning in the, chicken itself i think they've all just, been trained really really well to,protect the recipe at all costs let's,try one more location, sorry could i just get an assortment box,of fried chicken please,we'll do original please it has msg, right, okay it has an msg, okay thank you they've been extremely, well trained to not give away any, information after loads of research and, some testing in my kitchen at home, examining the actual kfc chicken testing, with different seasonings frying, temperatures brining techniques oils and, more we've done it i now present you, with colonel sanders not so secret, recipe you may be wondering why there, are 13 and not 11 herbs and spices i,think kfc is trying to trick them salt, and msg are not herbs or spices i,believe that kfc's original seasoning, mix has 13 ingredients not 11. 11 herbs, and spice

beautiful, clean hand get right into it guys, get into every little crack of this, alright every single crack of this once, you got that nice and covered just gonna, throw this to the side first coating on,the chicken plain white flour our white, coating sold three eggs one can a club, soda I trigger people when I do this I,don't know why let's knead it out fast, quick time guys come on do this half, tablespoon of salt one cup of flour beat, that in,let's get this nice and beaded put, inside a main event the seasoning flour,so three cups of flour to this 1/2,tablespoon of ground thyme 1/2,tablespoon of dry mustard for a,tablespoon of dry basil 2 tablespoon of,paprika, that's all much paprika I love a pretty, cat actually have smoked paprika here a,few tablespoon a white pepper The End The Final KFC Recipe Video - KFC secret Ingredients revealed - Glen And Friends Cooking

How Does KFC Protect Its Secret Recipe? - Did You Know Food Ft. Dazz (Kentucky Fried Chicken)

How Does KFC Protect Its Secret Recipe? - Did You Know Food Ft. Dazz (Kentucky Fried Chicken)

did you know Kentucky Fried Chicken, claims to still follow Colonel Sanders, original 1940 chicken recipe this, handwritten secret recipe said to,consist of some 11 herbs and spices is,guarded inside a 770 pound safe, surrounded by 2 feet of concrete on each, side and kept under 24/7 video and, motion detection surveillance the, contents of the recipe are kept on a,strict need-to-know basis for those, working at KFC and the few who do learn,of it are sworn to secrecy to ensure, that snoopers can't find out the recipe, each ingredient is shipped in from a,different supplier before being sent to,another company that blends half of the, recipe together afterwards the half, completed blend is transported to a,computerized processing system which, mixes in the exact amounts of the, remaining half the companies involved in,this process don't even know each other, this hasn't stopped people from trying,to recreate Sanders mixture for, themselves however Sanders nephew Joel,Eddington made headlines after revealing,an alleged copy of KFC's secret recipe,to the Chicago Tribune in 2016 while the, copy isn't written by Sanders himself, letting ting claimed he mixed the exact, ingredients alongside his uncle letting,Tain's said I mixed them over the top of,the garage for years the big thing we,did was mix it with flour and bag it up,and sell it to restaurants that's what I,did is a 10 11 12 year-old kid following, the interview letting temporally, backtracked on his claims stating that, while the recipe could be real he wasn't,entirely sure regardless KFC responded,to letting Tain's supposed discovery, stating lots of people through the years, have claimed to discover or figure out,the secret recipe but no one's ever been, right speaking on the food chain, sneakiness a fan on Twitter discovered a,different kind of KFC secret on October,19th 2017 Twitter user Mike edit, commented that the official KFC Twitter, account only follows the five former,Spice Girls and six guys named hub this,a reference to KFC's secret blend of 11,herbs and spices in their fried chicken, the tweet was liked and retweeted, hundreds of thousands of times prompting,a response from KFC themselves,KFC reached out to edge it sending him a,custom painting of himself receiving a,piggyback ride from Colonel Sanders, although Colonel Sanders role founding, the company and creating its recipe, cannot be understated he wasn't the only, person who helped KFC become the,multi-billion dollar franchise it is,today one of these unsung heroes is a,man known as Pete Harmon after Sanders, original roadside restaurant in Corbin,Kentucky was bypassed by the, construction of the interstate 75,highway the colonel sold off his, restaurant he then traveled the u.s.,trying to sell his chicken to other, restaurant owners Sanders ultimately met,Pete Harmon at Chicago's National,Restaurant Association convention and on,nothing but a handshake the two agreed,to partner up in exchange for Sanders, recipe and a royalty of five cents per, chicken sold Pete opened what would, become the first KFC franchise, restaurant at Salt Lake City Utah in,1952 Pete would prove pivotal to the, company's success in fact it was Pete, who first came up with the idea to sell, chicken in a bucket in 1957 Pete, recalled a guy in Colorado had bought, five hundred buckets and didn't know, what to do with them so the colonel, asked us if we wanted to take them off,his hands I wanted to get rid of them, quickly so he filled them with 14 pieces,of chicken five rolls and a pint of,gravy and sold it for three dollars 50,cents,the buckets were marketed to housewives,as a means of whipping up an easy family, dinner in a pinch and was suggested to,be paired alongside a salad or,vegetables they quickly became widely, popular with Utah's traditionally large, families and KFC sold 300 buckets in,just two days, the meal was such a hit that it made up,nearly half of the company's business by,the turn of the millennium Pete would, also go on to make training manuals and, guides for future franchisees overseeing, more than 200 KFC locations throughout, four states and helped push the, company's classic finger-lickin good, slogan however credit for coming up with, the slogan goes to Pete Harmons brother,Dave Harmon who opened up his own care, see in Phoenix Arizona and Ken Harbor,Dave's restaurant manager Dave, originally hosted commercials for KFC,but was unable to continue this after, suffering a stroke ken took his place, but Dave still wanted to be in the, commercials one way or another and, decided to tag along and simply eat, chicken in the background one day after,a commercial aired an angry woman called, the TV station complaining that mr.,Harmon is licking his fingers can, immediately counted, well it's finger lickin good even the, name Kentucky Fried Chicken didn't come, from Colonel Sanders Sanders original, restaurant which also still stands today, went under the name Sanders Courtin cafe, the name Kentucky Fried Chicken was, invented by Don Anderson a sign painter, hired by Pet

Only Two People in the World Know the KFC Recipe

Only Two People in the World Know the KFC Recipe

this huge electronic safe filled with, concrete is almost impossible to crack,it's located in super modern and, protective storage the area around is,filled with motion sensors no one will,go unnoticed because a lot of cameras, record everything even if someone dares,to go there they will meet well trained, guards the vault is located in,louisville kentucky there's something, worth billions of dollars inside the, safe it's not a diamond or an ornament, this is a yellowed piece of paper with a,recipe for kfc fried chicken, currently the equity capital of this, company is about 10 billion dollars the, recipe formula was developed in the,1940s at the moment only two kfc, executives know what spices are needed, for cooking it's no secret to anyone, what spices are contained in the secret, formula but the secret is proportions, temperature and cooking time the recipe,is so secret that they mix spices in,different places in different states, across america, mcdonald's french fries seem so easy to,prepare but no one has managed to make, them so delicious even michelin-starred,chefs love this dish one of the leaders,of mcdonald's says they use red brown, potatoes with a high starch content in,the preparation they store it in special, conditions process it and transport it,in a unique way to make the taste of,potatoes the same all over the world, also they use a special old ground salt,to give the potatoes this special taste,it seems the recipe is obvious but it's,almost impossible to repeat it they, don't say the temperature they use, during the cooking only employees know, the duration of frying what is so,special about oil and what about the, degree of freezing it's a secret and by,the way they roast the potatoes then, freeze them and throw them back into the,hot oil it's like math one mistake in,the formula can lead to losing the, signature taste, there's another secret mcdonald's recipe, that many people want to know it's a,unique sauce they add to the most famous, burger the big mac many people say this,is some kind of variation of thousand, island dressing but nobody knows for, sure coca-cola is such a popular drink, that it's hard to believe that nobody, knows its exact ► KFC’s Secret Recipe of 11 Herbs & Spices Finally Revealed? Homemade Kentucky Fried Chicken!

finally the secret KFC recipe has been, revealed now I'm a massive fan of KFC so,I thought I've got to give this a go I'm,gonna make my own homemade KFC and see,if it's any good although we have the, list of ingredients we don't actually, know the method of cooking so we're,going to have to make a guess about some,of those things so you will need cooking, oil obviously I have seen some people, use peanut oil but I'm just going to use, normal vegetable oil we're also going to,use a mix of buttermilk and an egg to,help the batter stick to the chicken the, main ingredient in this recipe is plain, flour but you'll also need salt thyme, ginger garlic salt celery salt mustard, powder basil paprika oregano white, pepper and black pepper and of course, you'll need your chicken and I've gone, for thighs and drumsticks which my,favorite from KFC so now we want to mix,all of the dry ingredients together in a,mixing bowl so we're going to start with,2 cups of planing flour 2/3 of a,tablespoon of salt 1 tablespoon of,celery salt 1 tablespoon of ground black, pepper 1 tablespoon of dried mustard 4,tablespoons of paprika and I think this,is what gives the KFC its distinctive, orange in yellowy color 2 tablespoons of,garlic salt I have just enough 1,tablespoon of ground ginger 3,tablespoons of ground white pepper, half a tablespoon of dried thyme leaves, half a tablespoon of dried basil leaves, and 1/3 of a tablespoon of dried oregano,or oregano if you're American then, thoroughly mix all of the ingredients, together making sure there's no lumps, now at this point it didn't smell much, like KFC but I'm still holding out hope, now we're going to mix one egg with the, buttermilk so that we've got a batter, with which we can stick the dry, ingredients to the chicken the leaked, recipe doesn't contain any of this, information so this is all guesswork but,it's pretty standard stuff now for the, messy part and I opted to wear some, gloves for this obviously you're dealing, with raw chicken so all the necessary, precautions need to be taken but what,we're going to do is dip a piece of,chicken in the buttermilk and egg, mixture shake off any excess and then, roll chicken around in the dry, ingredients now we're going a double dip,so that the chicken is extra crunchy so,we dip it again in the buttermilk, mixture and then back into the dry, ingredients, and then that piece of chicken is ready,to fry and now we just repeat the, process for all our bits of chicken so,now our raw chicken is ready to be fried, and you can see on this plate actually, this batter looks really really like the, real thing it's the right color the, right texture so I'm really interested,to see how this tastes when it's cooked,KFC actually fry their chicken in a,pressure cooker which I don't have so,I'm going to have to fry these in a pan,of oil so here is a pan full of the oil,I showed you earlier you also want to,take standard cooking oil precautions, don't fill it up too high and don't put,a lid on it so you don't start a fire, and now we just lower two or three bits,of chicken into the pan it still doesn't,smell like KFC but let's carry on you,can see it looks a pretty good color, though and the chicken is going to cook, for about half an hour and I'm going to,turn it over as well because you can see, that it's not completely submerged and I,don't want to die of food poisoning so,here I am turning the chicken over at,least it looks very good,it smells a lot of the paprika when it's,cooking to be honest so KFC is famous, for its secret blend of 11 herbs and, spices and people have tried to get it,for decades but apparently one of the,Colonel's nephews found a recipe on the, back of a photograph and he reckons that,it's the actual KFC recipe but I guess,we won't know until we've tasted it so,here it is coming out of the fryer after, half an hour you can see it looks pretty, realistic and the coating sort of fell, off this one a bit it doesn't smell much, like KFC but it does look a lot like it,but rather disappointingly it tastes, absolutely nothing like actual KFC which,is not what I've expected from all the, videos and reviews and things I read, online it's a ferret enter southern, fried chicken recipe but it's absolutely, nothing, like KFC but maybe I'm just not a very, good chef so maybe you want to give it a,go yourself let me know down below if,you've got any questions about this, recipe or if you had a go yourself and, have different luck thanks for watching, and I'll see you next time
