Vintage Pfaltzgraff Heritage Dishes - Tips and Tricks

hey guys it's Andrew here from the vlog, kind of Prospect home and today I want,to talk to you guys about my vintage, false grass heritage dishes that I've,been collecting for five or six years, now I'm just gonna share a little bit of,history behind this the dishes where you,can find some vintage false graphs, heritage pieces of your own and how you,can tell the difference between the, older dishes and the newer ones that are, made today so last week I talked to you, guys about how one of my favorite, drifted fights ever was the false grass, heritage dishes that I found at a thrift, store one day um it was not a complete, set it was kind of a bunch of odds and, ends there were a couple salad bowls, there was a utensil container some, dishes a couple of cups and saucers but,it was really mismatched I just love the,way that they looked I loved the white, color I love the lines of this, particular stat so I purchased it for,$12 and brought it home and I decided to,do a little research and find out what, exactly I had found it didn't take very, long for me you know to get on Google, and discover that I could purchase part,of the false grass Heritage Collection, now I'm I am a little bit of a history, nerd I love history,in fact my major in college was history, education so I had to look up a little, bit about false graphs and sort of the, origin of the name and where it all, started so actually I found out that,Johan false grass was a Potter in the,1800s in Germany which was really neat, because my husband, from Germany so I thought that was kind,of cool but he was a Potter and he was, having some trouble establishing himself,in Germany at the time well he had some, relatives that had moved to America on,the East Coast there and they were, encouraging him to come over and to try,to start up his trade you know over and,in America and he decided to do that and,he moved to Pennsylvania and now 200,years later Falls grass is still, creating ceramics for the home so it's,kind of a neat story where it all began, but the particular set that I collect is,called the heritage pattern it's the, white heritage pattern and it's gonna, need this pattern was created in the,1960s and it went on to become the most, popular and it's actually the only false, grass pattern that is still in,production today you can actually go on,the false graph website and purchase, some of these dishes from the Heritage,Collection now I totally understand that, the 1960s weren't that long ago my,parents were born in the sixties and I'm,sure they wouldn't like to be referred,to as vintage but nonetheless they are, from the past so I call these dishes, that vintage and the reason I do that is,because the newer pieces that you can, purchase today they just do not compare,to the older original pulsecraft pieces,I mean one of the things there are, several things that I will talk about, today so that you can look for, differences and the very first thing, that I want to talk about is the maker's,mark on the bottom of the dishes so if,you are you know interested in,collecting some heritage pieces one of,the ways that you can tell if it is an,older piece is by the marking on the, bottom I have a couple of dishes here, and any heritage pieces that were, created in the,1060 is for example have the false graph, family castle sort of stamped on the, bottom of of that dish which is really, neat and I have so many pieces just like, that with that with that castle stamping,on there it says USA faults graph and, you'll see the castle behind the name, bolts graph and that's one of the ways, that you can tell that your dishes are, originals now I know that faults graph, sort of I believe it was in 2005 that, false graph took its production over to,China I'm not sure what the marks, markings look like I'm newer heritage, pieces because I've never actually, purchased one I have seen newer folks, craft dishes not a part of the heritage, set and they have like a painted their, name is sort of painted on the back of,the dish as opposed to stamped into the, piece itself so if you have any newer, heritage pieces maybe you can help us,out and the comments allow us to know, but that's one of the easiest ways to,tell if it's an older piece is by,looking at the bottom for that castle, marking another way that you can tell, the difference between older heritage, pieces and the new ones is just by the, shape of the piece and the weight I have, actually found newer Heritage pieces as,well out thrifting I spotted them from, far away and I thought oh awesome and I,would go and pick it up and I just knew, right away it was,a newer piece just based on the way that,it was shaped I personally feel like the, newer pieces are just much thinner and, they just feel a little bit cheaper in,my opinion they're not as thick they're,not as sturdy and one of the things that, could really help you is by going to the, falx crafts site look up the Heritage, dishes and just start reading the, reviews that people have left it's,pretty amazing how many people agree, that they j

Goodwill Thrift With Me | I REGRET NOT BUYING THIS!

Goodwill Thrift With Me | I REGRET NOT BUYING THIS!

hey nesters welcome back to nesting, haven today we are checking out goodwill, doing some thrift shopping, looking for some interesting cheery home, decor, that i can either add to my own home or,maybe flip for a little bit of a profit, here on,my youtube channel live sales are in my,etsy shop so let's go ahead and check it,out and see what goodwill had today,i really like that chicken toothbrush, holder or knife holder i'm not really, sure what it was supposed to be for,and but you did see there were some, chips again chips on these vintage salt, and pepper shakers those are really neat, they appear to be hand painted as well, they had a lot of really nice mug sets,in the goodwill today i typically just, kind of mix and match my mugs i think a,lot of people do that but it was, interesting to see so many sets, that one there the country memory, stoneware was very pretty if i was to,pick up a set that definitely would have, been it leave a comment and let me know,if you guys prefer to have mix and match, coffee mugs or if you like them to be,all matchy-matchy,so i had stopped picking up these beer, steins quite a while ago they weren't,really selling well for me but this one,was very unique it had salt lake city, utah on it you guys know i love the, state souvenir pieces so i did end up,picking this up,to resell or i'll just add it to my,collection of state souvenirs it's,really neat, these are some really cool vintage in,1993 avon salt and pepper shakers,i liked how the little white doves were, not exactly the same one had their head, kind of tilted back now they do have the,red and green on them which is usually,an indication for christmas but i think, they really could work year round where,it's just a touch of that color i,thought they were really beautiful, whenever i see these little miniature, teacups they always kind of crack me up,because they're really adorable but then, when you think about the practicality of,drinking tea out of one i mean you're,not getting too much tea so you would, have to keep refilling it and refilling,it,so i don't know,if i would really want to have something, like that so i usually pass on those, little miniature ones,i actually passed on purchasing these, little bowls they had the french, vinaigrette and the italian dressing, and i think those would have been really, neat actually i like the idea of having, dressing on the side for your salad or,you can use it as little bread dippers i,know at italian restaurants i've been to,before and they would put a little bowl, like that out and mix some olive oil, with some spices and what not to dip, your bread in so you could probably do,that with some kind of dressing with, those as well,i could just kick myself for not picking,up those beautiful corel plates they're,in the pattern my garden and those were,a plethora of salad plates i really, would have liked them just for my own, personal collection and i think i just, got overwhelmed by the amounts that was,in the stack that i didn't even bother,to just buy a few they're only a dollar,a piece it's so silly of me to miss out,on that, they had this, lovely cornflower blue coffee pot with,no lid for, dollars,so,there was that, and this is a beautiful corning war, piece and the pattern wildflower, four dollars was reasonable and i think,i put it back because i saw some, scratching on it that i did not like, and they had this wrong lid on a pyrex, divided dish it was just a plain opal, wear dish, they were asking 15 for it still,i'm very curious as to if they had, gotten the correct piece with that lid,and if it already sold if it was out, back still,i found this beautiful corning wear, casserole, and,i actually prefer to use the cornerwear, over the pyrex i do enjoy pyrex but i,love to pick up the unique horny wear, pieces that pattern was called summer, blush and it was made from 1996 to 1998.,these were a really cool find, unfortunately a few of them had some, damage to them so i only ended up,picking up two i think i shared them, with you in my last video they had a,couple more on an end cap,so,i think these are the ones i passed on,and i end up picking the other two that, are on end cap because they are in,better shape but yeah these are vintage, harker where cups and saucers they're,nice usa stoneware and i think the set,of two will do well,i'm considering keeping it so i'm still,on the fence there,i was so happy to find this kichi gorge, vermont bell,i actually have been there before i mean,my husband have, gone to vermont, for a road trip and we absolutely love,it there, the kichi gorge was we both had vertigo, when we tried to look down we were on,that bridge and we both realized we're,not the best with heights, but we did experience it and it,definitely made me smile when i came, across this and i will add it to our, souvenir collection,i really love the colors of this rooster,on the mug but it wasn't particularly, old i was trying to decide if i wanted,to still get it or not but i ended up,putting it back especially when i spied, this beautiful,

Mini Thrift with me & MASSIVE haul | Pfaltzgraff score, Spring Decor & a bag for $1!!

Mini Thrift with me & MASSIVE haul | Pfaltzgraff score, Spring Decor & a bag for $1!!

let's go drifting at the salvation army, bye,so,do,do,well i have quite the haul after this, last thrifting adventure my husband and,i went on a little vacation and we can't,pass up going to thrift stores when,we're out and about so i stopped at a,salvation army as you saw and there was,so much photograph it was amazing um not, some of like the pictures and stuff like, that just some plates and dinnerware but, very affordable and then i got quite a,bit of clothes,at one thrift store it was fill a bag,for a dollar they actually was free, thrift store but they asked for a,donation of a dollar we gave more than, that,of course so i got some fun clothing, items to resell and to keep and then i,stopped at my parents's thrift store in,their small town as they watched our, girls for a vacation and picked up a few, clothing items again for myself to,resell and just a few other pieces so,let's jump in with the decor first okay,so first off i have a couple baskets, this one you probably saw me look at the, salvation army for pots i don't know i,just like that lighter wicker it didn't,have a price on it and they asked a,dollar 99 and i said i'll take it for 99,cents and they did so just a cute little, basket for plants and then the other, basket here is adorable isn't that just,so sweet um,and the leather handle i just,i couldn't pass it up before paying 7.99,it's a little more than i usually would, pay for a basket but i really, liked it i thought it would go well for, kids toys on shelves for our little, house in storing things on a shelf,at our house for decor, you all know i love baskets and if,you're new i love baskets so i always, pick up baskets especially these lighter, colored baskets i really really like, that and the leather handle that was a,must so that was really cute find, okay to some of the other items,i have a friend who is looking for corel, wear and so,each plate was 99 cents it has the, vintage floral um,i want to say mustard colored pattern on,the side i just got two of those, and then i just got,it has a gray on the outside gray line,uh coral bowls for 99 cents a piece as,well and she i don't think she cared how, much they really were so i got those for,her and i know she'll be excited to have, those i have some girl wear too and i,love them for kids they're really handy,to have okay and then i also got these, candlesticks they're a little dirty but,i thought i could wipe them off these, two for 50 cents i have some gold candle, holders that i really like that i needed,to restock some white candles with and,i've been looking at all the thrift, stores and they're all like red and, green and purple just not colors i want,i want white or yellow or something like, that so 50 cents for these two, then this ribbon was at my local thrift, store it was,50 cents for this, pretty full spool of,white ribbon i like decorating gifts, with white or,again for christmas next year using, white ribbon to decorate with i did that, this last year so kind of just nice to,think ahead for decorating and what i,might want things for especially for 50,cents,okay then at my,parents thrift store again,i found these beautiful decorative, plates they are career knives they are,the all for all the four seasons like, this one for instance is winter in the, country the old grist mill,so beautiful everybody has the hanging, and there were four four, dollar a piece but i asked for,two dollars for all of them and they, were very willing to let me pay two, dollars for all of them this summer one,is beautiful, this spring one,now i don't know if i'll put them all up,at once or just like rotate them out per, season we'll see,but so beautiful and so fun to find,um decorative courier and ives plates, like that, all right to,my false graph i found,so this plate and cup,was 50 cents i got two of these, very beautiful they'll go on either, the built-in behind me,or on my little shelves in my kitchen um,on the edge there,so i got two of those, and then there were multiples of these, bowls they're just kind of beat up they, were 50 cents a piece they're really, scratched on the inside and outside so i,need to figure out a way to get that, cleaned but i don't have the space for,six of them so i really only did get two,but they're just so beautiful and i,really was excited to find some of this, more, heritage collection as well, the last photograph piece this nice, large bowl was 99 cents,i didn't tell you these, were 50 cents maybe i did tell you that, but this large bowl, for a dollar,so salvation army seems to know their, clothing prices they overprice some of,their clothes but for dishware,um i thought these were really well, priced um,and very affordable for 99 cents i,couldn't pass that up so very beautiful,so glad to have found a few more pieces,to add to some of my collection all, right also at my parents local thrift, store, these vintage handmade aprons i thought, they were so cute i've actually sold, some of these on facebook marketplace so,if you're interested let me know this, one's a purple with som

Neutral Corner Hutch Makeover and Recent Thrift Haul

Neutral Corner Hutch Makeover and Recent Thrift Haul

hey guys it's Andrea from the blog kind,of Prospect home and today I thought I,would answer some questions that I've,been having about our Neutral cottage, style corner hutch that I have in our, dining room I'm also going to share some, fun treasures that I found while I was,out drifting this past Friday and they, actually incorporated some of those, pieces into my corner cabinet so I'll be,sharing those as well, when we moved into this house about, eight years ago now there was a corner, hutch already here that the previous, owners had left and it was a beautiful, piece of furniture I painted it almost, immediately and I went through several, colors over the years and eventually I,just realized that it wasn't my style it,wasn't something that I would have, picked out and so I decided to start, looking for a new order hutch now the, very first place I thought to look was,of course its book marketplace and I,just couldn't believe it I almost found, weather right away just 30 minutes from, here and it was beautiful but it was a,hundred and fifty dollars I decided to,list my old corner cabinet for sale and,I actually ended up selling it on,Facebook marketplace for one hundred and,sixty-five dollars and I used that money,to purchase this quarter cabinet so,there were a couple different things, that drew me to this hutch the very, first thing that caught my eye of course, was this scalloped detail up here I just, thought that was so beautiful and very, unique, and I pretty much love anything with, scallops,so I was very drawn to that and then I,just loved these clean lines on the, corner cabinet they're much more, straight than the old one which had a,lot of curves to it and then of course, this French window doorway looking into, the cabinet was just absolutely, beautiful to me when we picked it up it,was a dark green in color and of course,I repainted it and one of the questions, that I get all the time about this, cabinet is what color I painted it so,the color that I used was Kingsport gray,by Benjamin Moore and I don't have a,Benjamin Moore store near here so I just, took the color and I went to my local, true value hardware and a color match to,that color for me and I will say that, their formula will never be exactly like,Benjamin Moore's formula it'll always be,a little bit different because they use, different tents but it's pretty close so,if that's something that you're willing,to compromise on it's a great option if,you're trying to save money and so,that's what I did I just had a quart of,paint made and I painted the entire, outside of the hutch as well as the, inside of this upper portion another, change that I made to the quarter, cabinet was of course the hardware I,switched out the hardware for some oil, rubbed bronze and knobs and, think it just helps to update it a,little bit in my last video when I kind,of gave a tour of our dining space we,told you guys that I was wanting to pull,in some different colors and textures, into my corner cabinet decor so before, when I initially painted it I wanted it,very clean just nothing but my white, fault scrap collection which I shared, about a couple weeks ago and just, recently I've been bringing in some pops,of blue solemn wooden accents like some, wooden utensils here and some wooden, bowls I thought I would just take you, inside and sort of show you some of my,finds and also share with you some of,the recent items that I found thrifting, this past Friday you may have noticed in,my dining tour last week that one of my,favorite combinations is Woods whites, and a pop of blue I love I just love the,way that those three look together they, are so beautiful to me I have a lot of,these courier and other stations, throughout my dining room decor and I,just have this one set left so I have, this kind of tucked over here and I,wanted to bring in a little bit of blue,so I happen to have, this piece here which is just something, that I found at Marshall's I believe so,it's a newer but then this past weekend,on Friday I found this huge courier, knives platter it's very heavy and paid, two dollars and fifty cents I wanted to,leave the price tag on to show you guys, but I think it's a beautiful plate I'm,not sure yet I'll keep it in here but I,just thought that was so pretty,I already told you guys that I got these, awesome antique bowls from my mom, these stoneware bowls are so beautiful, and they have so much character on them,I love the way that that stoneware looks, against all of my white dishes of course,I've already talked to you guys about, all of my waltz craft dishes I have a,whole video on them if you're interested, but another thing that I've pulled into, this space are some wooden utensils all,of these wooden utensils were threatened, but some of my recent finds from this, past Friday,we're actually this vintage wooden, masher I believe it's called I lift it,up and it has quite a few names someone, else called it a sauerkraut press which, makes sense but I thought that was, really neat and I left the sticker on,there this

hi friends this is tamara rubin,tamararubin.com lidsafemomma.com and i'm,trying to get with the program and make,a little video every day um this is hard, for me because my kids interrupt every, single thing i do and like right now, they're screaming in the background so,i'm gonna talk to you right now about a,few things that were brought to me by my,friend claire and um here's one,um you can see, let's see,um,these will be up on the blog soon but, this is a,it says spode on the bottom so this is a,really great example of a horrible idea,um because usually it's the decorative, elements not always but usually the, decorative elements test positive for, high levels of lead and cadmium, cadmium causes cancer and is used in,reds and sometimes yellows and oranges, and then cobalt is usually found in,blues and cobalt is also toxic you can, look up cobalt toxicity and cobalt, poisoning and so while in this case this, does not look like it was used very, often sometimes you see cups like this, that are used a lot and the paint is,worn so um that's quite concerning, without um the inside being painted i,always say well look and see what's on,the rim and what's going to touch your, mouth and when you drink from this is,the exterior decoration touching your, mouth, but then once you kind of add into your, decoration all bets are off, same goes for, this little measuring cup um,which is adorable and i would, expect the levels on this are going to,be quite high, however you know one argument might be,that oh well i don't put stuff in the, measuring cup for long i only use it for,dry ingredients or whatever okay maybe,it's not an issue because you're not, putting hot tea or other hot or acidic, beverages in here for extended periods,of time unless you pre-measure,everything out for your recipe and then, you have them sitting around personally, for me i don't think it's worth the risk, especially again since you've got red,and the inside which is also likely, cadmium i don't know for sure it might,be iron-based given this rust colored, pigment so that's concerning, and then, this is a um a saucer uh,brought in by claire um a lot of times, this white center is gonna be lead free, but the edge is going to be high led and, then even higher lead on the decorations, that's what generally find and the back, mark is also generally high led so the, question is you know um can you,not have the food touch the edges i've,heard i've gotten that a lot from uh,readers i said oh well i don't let my,food touch the edges and i think that's,a bunch of bs because how can you put, food on this plate and not have it touch, the edges and the concern here is eating, something with salad like with with, salad dressing or lemon or something hot, like spaghetti sauce anything hot or,acidic is likely to leach the lead, faster okay that's three minutes tamara,reuben.com let's say mama.com
