2019 11 24 Sun Lead Safe Mama Video Colescott

hi everyone this is Tamara Rubin lead, safe mama and I'm here with my older son, just for fun,his name is cool Scott I forgot your, name for two seconds there's too many of,them Cole Scott Rubin he is 23 years old, gonna be 24 this summer graduating from,Berklee College of Music and he plays, upright bass say hello cool Scott and, hopefully he'll be a radio announcer, when he grows up but he already grew up,so he knows well anyway um today I,decided to share white China with you so,we'll just do a little round-robin I'll,show you the pieces that I'm gonna share, they all look different but they all, have a different story and they're all, white and one of these dishes, significantly poisoned a child and I,will let you know which one that was,at the end of it all I read this one, last one anyway so the reason I wanted,to talk to you about white China is,because oh can you hear me by the way,I'm if someone can hear me comment cuz I,had some problem with my audio before, okay the reason I wanted to tell you, about white China was because there's a,myth out there that white China because,it's white and simple and plain is,lead-free well that's completely, ridiculous as far as all myths go,because there's two kinds of white there,oh hi thank you so and when I say oh hi,thank you to someone that's because I'm,doing this as a Facebook live video but,I will be posting it on YouTube later if,you want to rewatch it so so YouTube, people don't think I'm insane I'm like, who's she talking to,okay so the the problem is that there's,two kinds of LED LED pigment as a base, for what for glazes and paints and, anything you might use as a powder and, there's its red LED and white LED so,white it's fundamentally a LED color and,the other thing about white dishes is,most of them are shiny see how shiny, this one is and because of that, there's often a clear lead like leaded, crystal surface glaze on top of maybe, let free white glaze underneath who, knows and it's the clear crystal that, can be high LED and when we're talking, about high LED some of these are as high,as 300 thousand parts per million let's,so that's 30% limit glaze yeah and, someone said well that means they really, heavy dishes what you wouldn't be able,to lift up your dishes and I explain to,them why that's not the case white what,do you think that's not the case yeah, exactly, well ms the substrate of the clay is,usually much more porous than the glaze, which is meant to be a surface that, protects the dish the porosity of the, dish from your food which is why I was, probably originally put on when they, started using glaze that wasn't supply, thousands of years ago so it would, protect the ceramic and make it more, durable and then I started getting into,it as an art so I managed to this one I,borrowed I have to return it I saw this, and I said oh I haven't just said that, brand I have to borrow one it's from the, cafe around the corner from our house of,which there are many so I'm going to,make this a tradition I'm going to,borrow a plate from every cafe because, wherever I go to a cafe the first thing,I do if you're with me at a cafe or a,restaurant I'm like this is my husband, sees me doing that all the time and, thinks it's hysterical, anyway so I brought this from the bakery, tell me if you think it has let or not, touch it small amount maybe now what, makes you think that now see the back it,says a coffee house can you touch the, coffee house touch the words what do you, feel yeah so what it is so you can just, barely feel it when you touch it with, your finger which means it's like a,decal that's been somehow baked on and,in almost every case, except maybe something made in 2019 I,have found that this means this is,painted with very highly paid because it,sticks better to the bottom ostensibly,I'm not sure what but so anyway so I,also expect that the dish will be lower, than probably about 200 parts per, million it's it's either gonna be 0 in,the glaze or somewhere in the 40 50 70,parts per million and I expect that this, logo it's it's small compared to how big,the scope of the XRF is which is like my,fingertip size so it won't fully fill, the scope so of the XRF the testing, window so I expect that this logo will,be probably six thousand parts per, million LED and the amount of lead, that's considered unsafe and my aim, intended for children this is a quiz, yeah very good you've been listening the, last 15 years, yeah yeah so it's a pigment a stabilizer,it helps make the black contiguous, throughout the glaze or sometimes added,to colorants to stabilize the color and, make them like you to make a homogeneous, throughout the the glaze so so when a,white dish is when a white dish is like, you know 300 thousand parts-per-million,LED that means that the glaze is 30% LED,but these back marks I'm finding are 10,to 20,000 parts per million let if they, fill up the entire scope of the window, and if they don't then they're like two, thousand four thousand the dishes we,used to have were about six thousand on,the back mark and

Lead, cadmium and arsenic (oh my!) in vintage Pyrex mugs and tea cups

Lead, cadmium and arsenic (oh my!) in vintage Pyrex mugs and tea cups

hi no this is Karissa and creatively, living and Tamra ribbon from lead safe, mama and we are checking out heavy metal, test results in vintage mugs and so,we're doing we've got this one it's a,yellow Pyrex cup we've got this one it's,beautiful design kind of a dark blue, this is the super popular butterfly, pattern and this really hideous kind of,you know I think this one was also very, popular it's that kind of olive green, that's pink milk glass in case you're,wondering there none of them are ceramic, they're all in the flat vintage milk, glass with paint yeah and we might want,to show can you flip it around maybe, show it with the light yeah so when you, hold them up to the light here so you,can see you see this white dot that's a,place that the paint is really thin and,has worn off and yep so you can see here,to like where these white dots are like, that's just where the paint has worn, thin but when you hold it down here, you know and you would look at this Cup,it doesn't look like it's wearing at all,so if you have Pyrex cups or bowls at,home I would challenge you to do the, light challenge and hold it up to that,to give you an idea of how much this, paint is wearing bonding we used an XRF,instrument which is an x-ray,fluorescence spectrometer to test these, that the same instrument used by the,Consumer Product Safety Commission to,test for lead arsenic cadmium and, mercury in consumer goods and so I'm,gonna read off the results kind of,quickly perfect that sounds good okay so,they lit up yellow okay was seventy one, thousand three hundred parts per million,LED four thousand nine hundred parts per, million cadmium and with seven thousand,one,sixty-six parts per million arsenic, seven thousand parts per million arson I,tested them look west separately yeah, and Pyrex says oh we've always complied, with all regulations that's because, there weren't regulations when this was, made, yeah it's easy to comply when there's no,rules I'm following the rules that the, ones that don't exist I don't know why,I'm so white so the white part of it,this particular one was 202 parts per, million LED 95 parts per million cadmium, and 1488 personally arsenic so there's,arsenic in the actual glass as well as,the paint okay so in to recap if you're,new to this but the level of concern for, lead in any item is 90 like nine zero, parts per million and cadmium is 44 zero, don't tell me yet parts per million but,and 1,900 personally Academy that's a,lot more than ninety yeah yeah and so,that's the amount of lead or cadmium, that's considered unsafe for an item, intended for children yeah that thing is,cups are not intended for children no R,is anyone's comes not according to the,CPSC they're not yeah so next we did, this one and because the pattern has, white in the pattern it deletes the, reading so this that's why it pretty, much the main reason has a lower reading, okay but the lead level on this is,thirty seven thousand nine hundred parts, per million cadmium is one thousand four, hundred ninety four parts per million, and the arsenic is 3847 that's so much, that's a lot and the there was the lead, level in the glass was three hundred and, ninety two parts per million and the, arsenic in just the plain glass was 1398,three hundred and ninety two parts per, million then we'll go to the booze, battler okay wait that was the green, cider will go to blue one the blue one, this one was so the yellow one was, seventy one thousand three hundred this,is a hundred and thirty three thousand, three hundred parts per million lead, that's a lot of,and 2781 parts-per-million cadmium and,ten thousand five hundred parts per, million arsenic, ten thousand parts per million arsenic,so it's like 1 1 % arsenic and so I got,a full percent 3 percent lead so that, nice like morning leave on your lip, touches the right there's no way to,drink out of that without that touching, your mouth that's part of the problem, even though they say it doesn't poison, you a camp poison um we're not saying it,does poison you were to say I don't want,to my house yeah we all have aggregate, environmental toxicity exposure from all,the different sources why would you add, this much lead to your life when let, three months exists yes Riley and so,then the bottom of that was 160 parts, per million cadmium and the arsenic was,1601 so then this one again the level is,going to be lower because it's just the, blue flowers and pattern and so it's,only 32700 harsh mainland 559 parts per, million cadmium 4288 parts per million, arsenic and the plain white is 237 parts, per million led 72 cadmium and 1589,parts per million arsenic and then I,think it we move what's in the frame and, then adjust the color glowing sparkles,so this one's super popular I think, everyone and their grandmother had this,I mean I I come across this a lot,it's not very pretty I mean it's I guess,I don't know if you like that color, that's very 1971 ish and again it's got,the white so it does it's not solid, paint like this is solid paint but your, mouth so that's the t

Guerrilla XRF testing at Target: Corelle dishes

Guerrilla XRF testing at Target: Corelle dishes

okay hi good afternoon morning or good, night we're in Israel yes yeah we're,doing a guerrilla testing with an XRF in,target of random kitchen Goods we're,gonna do a few little videos here check, back oh look on our blogs creative green,living.com Tamara Rubin dot-com for, other videos also our web pages for my,film facebook.com forward slash mislead, movie mislead America's secret epidemic, and your Facebook page that was creative, green living Facebook calm such creative, green living but then there's a group to,the commutes a few search for the, creative pendulum and community group on,Facebook so we just we just found this, this is what I this is what I have in my,house and I've tested and is left free, but I just thought I would test them in,front of you to show you that let free,we're doing kind of short stuff so that, that too much time here and this is an,x-ray fluorescence spectrometer that, tells it reads the first couple layers,of whatever it's testing depending on,the density of what it's testing and, tells you if there's lead cadmium, mercury arsenic any metals and I'm an,operator that's trained and certified, and using the XRF and I've tested it,just I don't know thousands upon, thousands of things and usually we wait, for a pass route or fail thing that top, says pass and green or fail in red if it,says inconclusive it just usually mean,it needs a longer test but if it does, find lead it finds it right away you see, that in the video we made with the green, glasses earlier that we're over 2000,parts per million left so now it says, passed because we did a long enough test,so it doesn't mean it's net and it's not, positive if it says inconclusive it just, means it's not positive if it says,Pass so this tested negative for lead, cadmium and Mercury as expected for the,at the bottom being made in the USA,winter frost white new Carell and we're,here at Target I just test a couple of,more pieces I won't do the full,30-second test do you have anything to,add about this charissa dear no well you, know I just it's good to test these, because Tamra likes to recommend them, and they see a thing that's interesting,if you haven't seen these choral dishes, before is that they're not made out of,ceramic they are a glass dish and then, you know do you think we can test these, ones appeareth markings on them yeah, yeah so this is also testing negative I,wanted to this is like oh wow that's,cool it's like new I haven't seen it,before it's got a textured you know, raised marking and and without so it's,pretty and different but it's still this, glass,I think it's called vitrified glass and,the nice thing is you know you can, mostly chuck them across the room and, they won't break mouths effect on that, but I know people who have done that in,my family and that's what's especially, nice about them even though they're,glass you can check them across the room,so that's a negative for lead cadmium, and Mercury it just says inconclusive, test now the only one that I can down on,the Shelf here so the scope for the XRF,is a circle that's like a centimeter and,so this isn't going to be a good one to,test I can try and get the lines in the, scope but it's it's sometimes hard and I,have found is that in cadmium in the, decorations and that's why I recommend, the undecorated ones yeah I don't know, whom to bet down when you do a close up,of that one we'll do a test of this one,in a second,so this again again this one on a short, test is testing negative for good black, lines I'm gonna try and test this up,here and I won't be able to see it so,we'll do like it's like 10 seconds or so,but the thing is like the vintage Corral, that has like the 1970s yellows and, greens and flowers those flowers I've,tested have been like 18 thousand parts, per million cadmium and they've had, trace lead and so don't go with vintage,if you these are cheap enough you know a,whole set for $34.99 well it's it says, she's thanks so much but 768 plus or,minus 49 again the vintage stuff is like,18 thousand so you know but but the, hazard level for cadmium and in either, them intended for children that's,regulated is 40 parts per million so for, this to be 768 parts per million yeah,it's a little scary but these are, considered dishes aren't considered, items intended for children so that's,the lesson for the day this how kids, don't use dishes right so I still, recommend these plain white Gorrell both, because they are durable I think if I,get some more I'm gonna get these a lot, okay we've gotta find out what's the, name of this Bella fans uh that's the, pattern number okay thank you for, joining us check out our blogs creative, green living calm and Tamara Rubin calm, and we'll see you again soon, okay hi good afternoon morning or good, night we're in Israel you can see yes, yeah we're doing guerrilla testing with,an XRF in target of random kitchen Goods,we're gonna do a few little videos here, check back oh look on our blogs creative, green living calm,Tamara Rubin Lead Poisoning Prevention: Lead Painted Vintage Pyrex Cinderella Bowl [See links in comments]

hi this is tamara rubin i'm here to talk,to you about vintage pyrex,tamararubin.com leadsafemomma.com now, first i want to address the fact that, there's some bs out there on the, internet basically snopes wrote an,article in 2016 that's fraudulent and, false and misleading and they haven't,retracted it snopes has written four, articles about my work in two of those, articles they called me an expert and, they cited my work as the reason, something's true and in two they've,tried to so doubt about the things i say,and they really should retract that, article from 2016 because it's misled a,lot of people and there are people out, there on the internet licking the, outside of their pyrex bowls to show, that they're not concerned about the, lead on them we've actually done some, dust wipe samples and shown that the, lead comes off microparticulate lead and,we're talking about aggregate lead, exposure in your home and the need to,remove all sources of lead because we,don't want any lead exposure in our, lives and i will be washing my hands, after touching this anyway so i use xrf, technology as always to test consumer, goods including the vintage pyrex i want, people to understand that the glass, tests positive the white milk glass can, this one in particular is about 200,parts per million lead that will not, test positive with lead check swap lead, check swabs are not designed to test, consumer goods they're also not designed,to test dishes they they're designed to,test house paint and so if you use the, lead check swab on one of these and, again these range in,it from like 200 parts per million lead,to 2 000 parts per million lead the, interior white glass won't test positive, but it will test positive with an xrf, instrument and if it's high enough that,it could leach lead although it's not, that likely to leach light at those, levels but it's concerning the bigger, concern is the paint on the outside the, paint on the outside of this is over 200,000 parts per million lead the amount of,lead that's considered illegal and, unsafe in newly manufactured items, intended for use by children, manufactured today is anything 90 parts, per million or higher in the paint laser, coating or anything 100 parts per, million or higher in the substrate so in,this case the glass is 100 is over 100,and that's the substrate and the paint,is over 90 and and that's the coating, but mixing bowls aren't intended to be,used by children they're not newly, manufactured these are um vintage here,i'm going to,crack open a fresh, lead check swab the end is white, and i just want to show you it's orange,on the middle and when you test this, with the reactive agent home kit and, which i have not done on this particular, bowl but i've done it on a bunch of,others,it immediately, starts to turn pink the more you rub it,the more pink it turns and that's,because this is lead paint we know that, the amount of lead and paint that's,considered illegal on a house if like, you're renting a house and hud needs to,come and remediate has is paint that's,five thousand parts per million or,higher and, this is two hundred thousand so this is,really high lead paint please don't use, these for food use purposes please don't,believe everything you read on snopes, they don't know what they're talking, about they don't do their research and, their articles aren't thorough,my name is tamara rubin check out,leadsafemomma.com tamararoom.com for, more discussion of this topic

Before You Panic: What should you do if you find out something in your home tests positive for lead?

Before You Panic: What should you do if you find out something in your home tests positive for lead?

hi guys this is Karissa from creative, green living and I wanted to post a,video to followup with you about what to,do when you find a consumer products in,your home that have letter cadmium in,them I spent this last week with Tamara,Rubin from mislead America's secret, epidemic testing HomeGoods with an x RF,instrument which tests and tells you the, precise amount of letter cadmium that, are in things like your Pyrex or your, mason jars or your mugs or your plates, and we test it we tested so many things, and a lot of people are panicking and so,I want to have a talk with you guys, about what to do when you find out stuff,in your house contains lead and I'm,gonna show you some things that I found,in my own home that contain letter, cadmium that really surprised me and, what I'm getting rid of and then what,I'm gonna keep - so I'm gonna flip this, around my kitchen I'm gonna tell you is,a hot mess and I hope you guys just, appreciate like hashtag real life right, hey I have a two-year-old and stuff gets, piled up on the counter all day long and, keep it out of his reached let me show, you guys okay so here's a bunch of stuff, that we tested and you know I wrote down, you know like references for how much, was on these things so I can show you, guys so things that I had to handle it,in them that really surprised me the, first one was this glass from Starbucks, that I have loved for like two years and,I bought it specifically because we got,rid of plastic we kicked plastic to the, curb in our home we don't ever use, plastic in a place where it comes in,contact with food or beverages except, for some very rare instances in the lids,of stainless steel sippy cups or like, the tops of water bottles so I have this, and we found it have led it's not a,crap-ton of would look so it had more, than a thousand parts-per-million almost,2,000 parts per million of lead inside, this tinted glass and for me that's too, much so for reference the Consumer,Product Safety Commission has said items, intended for children need to have 90,parts per million of lead or less in,them and this one is well,of that and so this one I'm picking of,the curb we're getting rid of this one,and what I switched to was this water, bottle which I did have I've had Tamara, test with the XRF gun and this one is,negative for letter candy and I bought, this on Amazon I really like it it has, this lid which the rim here is plastic, which I'm not thrilled about but it's,not touching my beverage so I feel okay, with it and when you take this off it's,like a really wide mouth so anyway so,that's what I'm replacing it with um,this one which is zero from this one, which had a lot this was you know almost,2,000 parts per million let some other, things that we're going to talk about, that I'm getting rid of so we tested a,bunch of mugs in my house I was so,shocked this mug exact designs you guys, have had almost twenty thousand,parts-per-million of life these are mugs,my son wanted to have his own tea set,and I thought Oh mugs mugs are so much, more durable than like tea cups so we,bought these for him and they have a,crap ton of lead it's almost twenty, thousand parts-per-million lead and, that's on the exterior and then they're,still that on the inside of it so this, one this is going away this mug this was,my favorite Starbucks mug this one had, eleven thousand parts-per-million less, one's going to this one came out, negative so let's see from that that's,awesome this one which if you live in,the Polar Express train that's where we,got this, this one also had an insane amount of,lead so I mean in the thousands I think,it's way too much so this one I'm,getting rid of and I'm writing to Warner,Brothers who produces these and saying,WTF cuz that's not cool that you're,getting these and you're handing them, out to kids so we're getting ready got, this one the interior didn't have any, lead which was great but it had so much, cadmium and cadmium you guys if you're,not familiar with it is an even more, potent neurotoxin than lead so this one, which is a Starbucks mug even though the, exterior actually had very little lead,or cadmium,um if it were just the reading on this, one I would consider keeping it because,25 parts per million let is actually, very very very low at that point the, lead that's in your item it's not an,added ingredient that they put it in,there on purpose,it's my residue from the manufacturing, process maybe a mold that they used had, some lead in it and it might have picked,up some of it maybe there was a trace, contaminant in the glaze and for the, most part I don't think that something, that's that well is going to hurt you,but this amount of cadmium on the, interior of this cup is insane to me,um the states that regulates cadmium, more strictly than the federal, government the lowest regulation which i,think is I'm the best way to go is to do,an the most conservative one and the, most conservative guideline checking, that what I'm doing is 40 parts per, million cadmium so when you're comparing,a target numb

Lead in dishes

Lead in dishes

thirty nine thousand one hundred thirty, five thousand three hundred, fifty three thousand seven hundred one,out of every three plates contains high, levels of lead that's what 13,investigates found when we recently, tested hundreds of dishes and when we,sent those dishes to a lab for more, testing,we discovered on some of the plates lead,in the glaze and paint was leaching out, that bowl is leaching dangerous levels,of lead seven times more than the, government says is safe, and my boss he's not happy about it,family's been eating on these for years,i'd rather know i wouldn't want to do,anything to hurt my kids families like, these have gotten rid of their plates, after testing showed both their dishes, and their children had high levels of,lead how can you get lead poisoning, never crossed my mind it was dishes we,just don't think about it and officials,at the marion county health department, question why the government allows lead,in dishes in the first place why do i,need it there,if a lead is harmful let causes, permanent damage then why is it on,something that i eat out of the answer,to that question lies here the food and, drug administration outside of,washington d.c regulates lead-in plates, the agency says even high levels of lead,in dishes can be perfectly safe if it is,properly manufactured that that lead is,bound within the glaze, and will not leach into food mike, cashtalk is an fda consumer safety, officer he says most plates now sold in,the u.s meet strict safety requirements, for lead, but those requirements took effect in,the 70s which means if you have dishes, from your grandparents like this one, they could be putting your family at,risk i can't think of how many people, have eaten on it for how many years we,have always advised consumers that if,their plates show any sign,of deterioration,or if they're they're very old if,they're antique items,to be prudent about, what what they do with those plates the,fda also warns about traditional folk, pottery that comes from other countries, this ceramic cooking bowl from mexico, poisoned a young boy here in,indianapolis, you can see where the glazing of that, has been worn away if the piece is not, properly made, then there is the potential for lead in,the glaze to migrate into food,so how do you know if your plates are, made correctly the problem is you really, don't as a consumer i can't tell you if,the glaze is right on this plate i have,no idea if the glaze has been fired, correctly representative jim matheson of,utah thinks you should know most people, don't even realize lead glazing is used,on these plates he's got an amendment in,the food safety bill now being, considered by congress it would require, plates with lead to be labeled this, product is made with lead-based glaze, there's a almost an irrational fear of,lead sandy spence represents companies, that make and decorate ceramic dishes, and she says warning labels are not, necessary if there is added lead in the, manufacturing process why not just let, consumers know that because we believe, that tableware sold in this country at,reputable stores,is safe, and so if we put a label on that says, this product has lead in it it will, scare people unnecessarily linda hallett, says she has a right to feel scared, after all both her dishes and her, daughter tested high for lead so much, lead the health department recommended, she stop using her plates and when it,comes to dishes, lead isn't necessarily the only problem,13 investigates found this plate, contains something considered far more, dangerous according to our lab the plate,is leaching cadmium a toxic substance, linked to cancer the amount of cadmium, leaching out of this plate is acceptable,to the fda but not to the a bear family,eight-year-old lauren has used the plate, for breakfast almost every day her mom, says, not anymore all she knows is that her, favorite plate is going to be thrown, away it's too risky, for kids so it should be safe for kids, you shouldn't have to test it and wonder, the reality is testing your dishes is,the only way to know for sure if they do,contain lead and if it's leaching out, into your food and sending all your, dishes off to a lab that can get, expensive so we have some other options, for you the fda recommends buying a test, kit like this one to see if your plates, are leaching lead or cadmium the kits, are available at many local hardware, stores or online if you want to check, your plates for free wthr has set up a,special testing day with the marion, county health department it's this, friday from 10 until two at the health, department headquarters in indianapolis, that's the address on your screen right, there the health department can tell you, exactly how much lead is inside your, plates so you can decide if you want to,have them tested further we've got more, information about that and directions to,the health department at wthr.com,and if you're looking for plates that, are made without lead we've got, information on our website about that, too i'm bob segall channel 13 eyew

as to whether there's lead on it usually,in ceramics now you know they can't sell, them if there's a big amount of lead and, secondly most lead in all ceramics with, the glaze they use these days will only, come out once the plate starts to crack,if you see cracking in the glaze that is,your warning that lead could leach, through to your food and the lead really, only leeches through to your food if you,are using wet acidic foods the more acid,it is the more it'll leach the lead out,so the thing you really have to keep, hope aware of is the bowls and the mugs, since on the plates you usually you, don't have wet food sitting on the plate, too long but it will also depend where, you have like your tomato sauce, spaghetti,if you eat them mostly in the bowls,it'll probably be your bowls that might, crack first if it's mostly on your, plates it might be your placements that, the tomato sauce is acidic it's one of,the ones that's more salty liquidy and, might sit on your plate for a little, while before you're done with all the, noodles and everything and you get it,washed so just be aware that when they, test plates normally it's the plates, that have cracked the plates that have, set in water a lot like do not leave, your ceramic stoneware dishes in soaking,in water for a long amount of time plus, the soaking if you have them crack easy,it's because this bottom edge that is,not glazed that's where the water can, soak in and that very dry ceramic will, soak that water in like a sponge and if,you immediately like let's say within a,day and it hasn't fully dried yet take, that same,or bold stick it in the oven I don't,think it happens as much in a microwave, because it's too fast but in on the oven, when it heats up and in,driving that if that ceramic has soaked,of water it will expand with heat and, that's what caused the cracking so if,you do not want your ceramic or stone, wear to crack after you wash them if you, soak them in water and got that bottom, edge very wet then you need to give it,maybe a week before you use them in,something like an oven it's okay to put,the hot food on them that's usually not, enough heat and not along enough time to,crack the glaze so you won't notice it,then you can still use them for your, sandwiches or whatever it's not going to,crack your glaze but don't be sticking, them in the oven if you've had them soak,in a sink for more than you know two, minutes two to five minutes the ceramic, glaze on the outside most of the time,it's dirty on the outside so if you just, get them wet on the top or on the inside, and let them soak that way where the, bottoms aren't that wet you don't have, that much of a problem so just thought,I'd give you that tip signing off,and don't forget to subscribe if you, want to see more I plan on going through,a lot of my other dishes soon some of,the older stuff this is like my brand, new addition and more garden and more, glass this is glass garden books do,subscribe if you want to see more

Vintage Pyrex (72-78) lead test.

Vintage Pyrex (72-78) lead test.

all right so this is a lead test i,picked up just today, you can see the directions here so i'll,open it up,crush each section shake it up put a,little bit of the liquid on there, rub it around and supposedly if it turns, pink or red, that's the indication that there's lead,so i guess what i'm,thinking is there could be two different, things whether or not they contain lead,or whether or not the lead possibly, leeches, into food and again this isn't,definitive proof one way or another and,i'm not trying to prove anyone right or,wrong, this is merely for the sake of curiosity,so i'm going to open the test i'm also, going to put on some latex gloves just,to make sure,i'm not contaminating anything and i've,also brought i brought this over to tess, which i mean just look at it i'm this is,like an old juicer,um my wife also found this for me um,this is an old juicer from my hometown, one of the soda fountains here in town,um from probably about the 50s i would, imagine,uh i know my dad said he probably has,had some orange aids and limeades out of,this thing, and then also got a fish and sinker, which of course, probably lead so i might test these two, things too,if i have enough uh juice in this kit,so my goal i'm gonna test try to test, the inside first, and then i'm gonna test the outside, where the paint is um,these are well used i mean you can't,really see the scratches in this like, cloudy glass and stuff but there's some, scratches in there it's used,it's old so let me put my gloves on open,a test and let's give it a shot, all right so let's just do this real, quick, break anything, again i want to reiterate that i'm not, doing this to,prove anyone right or wrong, and i want to sweat a little bit, remind everybody that i really, appreciate the concern, because of course if i was uh,contaminating myself with lead i'd,probably wonder, bear with me i'm not trying to make this, video excessively long, all right this is good it's going to get, there it's opening up one of these tests,so these tests also have,um if i'm not mistaken,it comes with a little card which has, some lead on it so you can, quality like kind of check test to make, sure that you have an,um an accurate test,so i'm going to crush this side,i'm going to crush this side i'm going,to shake it up,it doesn't tell me i want to shape i'm,going to shake it up and then i'm going,to put it on there rub for 30 seconds so,here we go,crush crush, shake,so there you can see the color as it,comes out it's sort of a yellow color, all right well that was 30 seconds, you can see there really was not there, was no change in color, let's do the paint side,so i'm gonna try to get a little bit on,the green and the white here i think the, green is probably the paint the white,it's just the glass but,it's a little more difficult here,i don't know if i'm going to get too, much more out of this test, that was another 30 seconds just a,little bit more than two songs, longer,so still no reaction still no change, all right let's try i think i got enough,to test the old juicer,i've got a pretty i mean almost it looks, almost like the same color i'm thinking, this almost just, looks like straight wood, maybe not who knows,i don't see any red it just kind of,looks dirty let's see, what about the lid, fishing right here,oh yeah yeah yeah you can see that's,definitely red,so that's definitely lead, yeah that's just as red as it can be,that's lead, and so i don't even know if we need to,do the verification on that i think we,can pretty much guarantee that this, fishing sinker,is made of lead, all right so again i just want to do the, test because a set of wood, and i said i'll post the results and, again it's not not to disprove or prove, anything, this was merely out of curiosity for, whether or not there was lead on the, surface of this pyrex, now i granted i will state that, from a little bit of research i've done, which again i'm no expert,i've done like two days of research on,this um,it looks like the epa regulations for, leachable lead were passed around 71,so again this pattern came out after, that so i can't say anything to patterns, prior to that so if you're concerned you, might want to do a test,um anyway just wanted to share this with, you guys, because i said i would
