Where to Eat, Drink and Stay on a day trip to Albuquerque New Mexico

Where to Eat, Drink and Stay on a day trip to Albuquerque New Mexico

welcome back to doesn't pay full price,i'm jim and if you saw the video on,santa fe you know we're in new mexico so,we figured while we're here why not make,a day trip to albuquerque it's only an,hour away see if we can find some good, food they're also known for having a lot,of good breweries so let's go explore, all right so we had to stop at bob's,burgers,no relation to the show but i still had,to stop anyways and get green chili, cheeseburger so this is their like, signature dish, dish, signature thing i guess, definitely juicy i don't want to make my,car a mess but so it's green chili, cheese lettuce and tomato, you got it under control yeah i think i,got it,pretty good, what do you think is do you see it spicy, such a baby it's so spicy it's,definitely spicier last time,i do want to say if you want something, cheap this was only 325 for this burger, but, pay cash because they showed you a 55,credit surcharge,55 cent credit surcharge, for our night in town we spent 160 and, stayed at the elvato motel it's right on,route 66 this whole place has been, completely renovated has a great, courtyard rotating food pods a really, nice pool and then our room over here is,a really good size it's the basic room,it has these cool adobe wood beam, ceilings and then what i thought was a,water bottle is actually a growler they, have a tap room you can fill this with, beer and then bring the beer back to,your room there's these cool modern, storage baskets the bathroom's kind of,small but it's really nice and clean, glass enclosed shower overall i'm really, happy with this room but it's time to,get some beers our top brewery picks, were bow and arrow they had great live, music sidetrack was a cool little place, downtown but gravity bound was by far my,favorite great beer great service and, after all that beer it was time for some, food but even though it was saturday a,lot of places closed early in,albuquerque luckily we found la guela, queza which is known for its bureau, tacos and different moles but we opted, for something a little different we got,the birya pizza we didn't know it was, this big when we ordered it but we also, needed to try a couple of their mole, this is super good but this is way too, much for two people, weird i mean i'm still going,we also don't have a table in here so,we're eating on the bed here this is a,cross section of this this thing is,crazy huge and you gotta dip it,yep i'm gonna eat it over here,it's super good it's a lot of food and,we don't have a refrigerator in this, room so,we're just gonna have to power through,this,20,bureau pizza,i'll let you know how it goes oh my gosh,we also got uh mole enchiladas so it's,gonna be it's gonna be a minute,so when you're in new mexico you're,gonna have your fair share of green, chili red chili but who else is going to,pick their own chilis we found big gyms, chili farm, picked a whole batch of green chilies, and they'll roast them for you here too, there's seven dollars for an entire, basket or you can get a half bushel a,bushel whatever you want freeze them but,it's fun takes like maybe 30 minutes, pick some chilis and it's just something, different you can also pick your own, flowers we're in this field of,sunflowers right now they give you, clippers and a jar something a little, different have a little fun,we're heading up to santa fe for the, last night but rather than pay the five, extra dollars to have those chilies, roasted i'm going to show you a little, insider tip if you're staying in a room, that has a kitchen go ahead and turn the, stove on high take one of your chilis, set it right down on the coils and just, watch it sizzle but what if you don't,have a stove that's cool every hotel, room has an iron so go ahead and get, that iron plugged in and nice and hot, making sure to keep rotating your other, chili you got on the coils and then once, your iron's hot just lay it horizontally, set your chili on top and just count the, money you're saving if you want to be,like a professional chef you can go,ahead and multitask and keep that other, chili rotating on the coils while you,got the one on the iron but let's say,you only have a toaster go ahead and get,it out plug it in and this is what we,call the new mexico pop-tart just throw, the chili right in give it the old dark, toast and a couple minutes later you, have a nice roasted surprise i actually, started this off as a joke and then i,was just really impressed with how well, all of these worked except for the one,on the iron i wouldn't suggest that i,will have a video showing the correct, way to roast these chilies and what to,do with all of your fresh green chilies,so make sure to subscribe and stick, around, thank you so much for watching i'm jim, what doesn't pay full price new mexico, was a whole lot of fun i hope you found, some of the information helpful as,always i appreciate you checking out the, videos and supporting the channel i hope,to see you subscribe if you haven't,already and we'll see you next time

The Frontier Restaurant in Albuquerque, New Mexico + El Bruno's Restaurante in Cuba, NM

The Frontier Restaurant in Albuquerque, New Mexico + El Bruno's Restaurante in Cuba, NM

i am in albuquerque new mexico traveling, down route 66,the stretch through downtown does have, some original fixtures left from the, mother road's heyday, though sadly many of the great locations, motels and restaurants are gone, that history isn't really the subject of,this video as there is one restaurant in,particular that i am headed to,this is the frontier restaurant on route,66,and albuquerque staple, the restaurant is 50 years old now,as it was opened in 1971 inside of this,barn-shaped building which had been a,restaurant beforehand called the country, barn, the frontier has expanded over the years,to encompass the entire city block,as it quickly became popular,it is located right across the street, from the university of new mexico campus,so that may be a reason why it is done,so well,it does appear that lots of university, students eat here and the prices aren't,bad compared to other places,it is cafeteria style you order the food, then wait for your number to appear up,there, the decor in here is fantastic, the restaurant is jam-packed with all, sorts of western theming and memorabilia, including lots of paintings and pictures, along with some guns and other features, here's a bronze replica of frederick, remington's off the range, the place is massive there are five, separate dining rooms, there are also lots of depictions of,john wayne in here which is pretty cool, this room has lots of great weavings, from local pueblos,i got a burger and hash browns which, were pretty good then i revisited the, frontier restaurant a few months later, and tried the chicken tenders, which were also good,a big thumbs up for the frontier, restaurant, this place is great, now after taking a left at albuquerque i,am going to be heading into the desolate, northwestern part of the land of,enchantment so enjoy the scenery on the,way there,i located dino the roadside sinclair, dinosaur at a gas station, these apata sources have been the icon,of sinclair since the 1930s,so,so,here in the small town of cuba new, mexico i am going to eat dinner at,another interesting restaurant known as,el bruno's restaurant e cantina, the building is an interesting fusion of,pueblo revival, some mission revival and mid-century,modern styles of architecture, diners enter through this mission style, gateway, complete with a bell on top, here is a carving of the version of,guadalupe, there are also a few antiques on,property, the inside of the restaurant also looks, great complete with ceiling viegas, there are also lots of interesting, decorations including some artwork and, these spanish colonial and hispanic, styles, the food here was also great,if you find yourself driving along the, long lonesome stretch of highway 550,this oasis is definitely worth a stop,if you enjoyed this video then please, like it share it and subscribe to my,channel also check out my other videos,on rosa attractions museums national, parks and much more here in the land of,enchantment and all over the country, thanks for watching
