hi it's Sonia in rina rina from chicks,and salsa blog hey guys,cheers Cheers we wanted to share with,you about a week ago Sonia hosted a,dinner party and we played these games,and it was so much fun and then we,played them again with the kids at a,restaurant and it was amazing so we,wanted to share with you a couple of,finds but we're gonna do it by actually,playing it so the first one we're gonna,do is well this one is kind of hard to,do without a group but to give you an,idea of how to play this let's open it,up it's called who in the room we just,played this the other night with the,kids at a restaurant so we played who at,this table and the questions are,hysterical but I will say that's like a,little disclaimer if you are gonna play,with the kids there are a couple in here,that probably are not necessarily g13,yeah I have to pull them out either pull,them out pre-screen but otherwise it's a,very family-friendly game but maybe pull,out the cards that you think may not,work for your family so to give you an,idea we'll do a couple sample questions,so imagine you have like a dinner table,with 12 of your closest like friends or,family members around this is a game for,that moment yeah you would want to play,with people you know really well yeah,who in the room would you swap voices,with like it's innocent enough but it,would be a really fun question so,literally you would say okay one two,three and everyone kind of point at the,person yeah and you'll find that you,know a lot of times there'll be multiple,points to multiple different people or,unanimously one person and it sort of,becomes a really funny conversation,because why would you want that person's,voice or what is it about that person's,voice and it kind of strikes up,conversation and kind of helps like,liven up the mood of like a dinner with,the family over friends so who in the,room has ever secretly taken a nap,one two three you know yeah like oh it's,really fun you just point to yourself,you know and it's even more hilarious,when unanimously everyone this is you,yourself I mean and the truth is between,you and me I for sure would be the one,taking this one of the kids would love,who in the room has the smelliest feet,the kids would love it,who in the room is most likely to get,into a fight at a bar at a club it may,have been a possibility there's three,questions for you to choose from on each,card look at the middle one who in the,room has the worst taste in music okay,so this is a game called boo in the room,good for like dinner date of them dinner,parties great for dinner parties and,great for like yeah we did a family,dinner we try I mean in a perfect world,we'd like to have family dinners every,night of the week we don't get around to,it yeah that all think it's because you,know my husband travels or the kids have,activities but every time we get,together we really want to try and make,it as meaningful as possible so this is,a really good one but again check it out,flamer disclaimer disclaimer depends on,how old your kids are make sure you,pre-screened the cards because it looks,pretty good right kids are between 6 & 9,we will link these games below but I,want to show you one more the second one,is thought campfire games but it's,called would you rather and it is a play,on the game that we all know but it has,the prompts for you which makes it super,easy and these tend to be a little,cleaner which is really this gets set up,in two different colors so you've got,black and you've got white and see what,you want to do is grab one black and one,white and that way you know you don't,actually end up with the same ones every,time you play because otherwise people,memorize it or if you play it too much,so once you shuffle them combinations,are always near right the likelihood of,having the same ones over and over is,not gonna happen okay so you want to go,so I'll one round okay okay so I've got,a black and I've got a white so would,you rather have a golf ball for a head,or always smell like cheese,always it's not like cheese because I,can always use my Gucci plume to cover,it up exactly yeah maybe maybe hopefully,so the kids love this I mean the kids,love love love it because you know they,would probably rather smelly cheese or,maybe have a golf ball for a head so you,do,would you rather oh God move to a,different house every night of the week,or always be in constant daylight well,for those of you who know me we do move,to a different house every week but I,think I'd rather be in constant daylight,that's what like blackout curtains are,for yeah well and you know I'm not in,Alaska but quite frankly,blackout-curtain news and then you know,I can handle it I always like I like do,would you rather constantly sweat or,sneeze every time you stay and I'd,rather sneeze at every time I said and,and that OHS at ant because I can live,without the word and I would rather,constantly slide no that's not so bad I,would make clothes that allowed you know,I'm not doi

Ep 24 Amusements in Medieval Towns

When the day is done and you have some time off, how do you spend it when you’re living,in a medieval city? That’s what we’re talking about today on Footnoting History.,Hey everyone, this is Christine. I thought today I’d shake things up a little bit and stray away,from my usual chatting about things exclusive to the kings and queens of medieval Europe and their nobility,and talk about something that encompasses everyone, the need to be entertained.,Yes, the higher up you were in the hierarchy of medieval life, the more time you had to,amuse yourself but everyone had to have something to keep them going and I thought we should,look at what they enjoyed the most. For our purposes I’m going to split this into two,main areas: first, Sports and Games, and then Theatre.,I do however, need to make a distinction. I’m limiting this to entertainments you,would find in the cities and towns of medieval Europe simply for the sake of my brain and,your time. Honestly, I’m sure that a lot of what was going on in the countryside overlapped,with the entertainments in the towns. So, if you hear me discuss something where,you’re thinking “I bet so-and-so in Yorkshire or southern France would have done this too!”,the odds are you’re probably very right. With that said, off we go into sports and games!,The sport most commonly associated with the,aristocracy in the middle ages is hunting. The upper classes of towns loved to hunt and,were often able to do so with a jaunt directly outside of the town walls. The middle and,lower classes also liked to hunt directly outside the town (oh and, as an aside I know it can be somewhat controversial to use the term 'middle class' when discussing the middle ages, because there has long been a scholarly debate as to when exactly the middle class came into existence, I'm only saying this because you can obviously tell where I fall on the debate by my use of the term),but while their richer counterparts got to ride on horses and use packs of dogs to sniff,out their quarry the lower classes were usually stuck walking on foot and using spring traps,or spears to find what they wanted. Sometimes you’d even see the aristocrats hiring someone from the lower,classes to help them out and act as guides. In terms of wondering what they hunted - well,,that could be anything. While the aristocracy were exclusively the ones who hunted boar,and deer pretty much anything else, like rabbits, say, were fair game to anybody. In Spanish cities,hunting was so prevalent that individual towns had strict rights and regulations pertaining to their,surroundings which dictated who could do what and where exactly they could do it.,Hunting aside though, the most frequently played games were ball games. You can trace,ball games back to the Romans and the Muslims, both cultures favored this kind of entertainment,and left an imprint of it on the places they had at some point inhabited. As much as you hear,about English people now being obsessed with football - or what Americans would call soccer - you,might be interested to know that the first spectator sport there is widely believed to,have been a medieval form of field hockey. There was also a game called stoolball, which developed,later on into what we today know as cricket. It was a favorite of the lower classes and,began with one person sitting on a milking stool while another person threw a ball at,the stool. The person who was sitting on the stool had to prevent the thrower from hitting the,stool by using either their hands or a small paddle.,During the later middle,ages, especially in England, towns tried to accommodate their,people by creating public recreational facilities. Did you ever think people in London in the,1450s would be spending their afternoons playing tennis and bowling? Well, that's what they did.,That’s not to say you were limited to physical activity. If you’re anything like me you’re,far more comfortable when something does not require a talent for sports. So I think,if I was around in the Middle Ages I would be the sort of person who played chess or learned,some of the games that used those new-fangled things called playing cards. As a side note, if you're a New Yorker, the Cloisters has a display of playing cards, so you should go and take a look at that. Playing cards,were actually popular first with the French and the Germans but the English began to import,them in the 15th century. The cost of importing playing cards was high at the beginning, meaning,you had to have some money to get them to England but just as in other areas of Europe,they eventually made their way to being popular among all of the classes. And of course, what,became the most popular place to play cards? Taverns, just like the ones Samantha mentioned,in her Drinking in Medieval England podcast. hi welcome to the esl break room and,this is our first filmed episode,and we're here today with maxine,kinsette who is,yes a long time trainer with business,class and we've asked her here today,because maxine has a flare for the,theatrical and we know she is great at,bringing her lessons to life with games,so for two reasons games are interesting,for us,games in the classroom were always great,but online we then had to find a way to,make things more alive,and so maxine is going to talk with us,today about how she's handled both in,person,and taking the transition to online and,now that we're going back in person,how things are working out for her she's,going to share some ideas with her game,so welcome thank you so much for coming,that's all right my pleasure it's nice,to talk about it so,do you want to know how i began the idea,i got and all right,yeah well i found in my early years as a,trainer that a lot of the learners are,really afraid to speak they're shy,they're reserved they're scared and it's,very difficult to get them going so to,speak,so i tried several methods with little,success and then one day i decided to,play some games i think it just came to,me,let's do it this way and i started with,a very very simple one who am i,okay so you go i have lots of little,cards with lots of pictures of disney,characters famous people whatever so,they take a card,and then they have to ask each other to,find out who they are so very simple,questions,and whatever so you do like yes no,questions yes no questions rules etc so,that i realized that worked quite well,so i thought well i have to develop this,spend weekends sticking pictures on,little bits of paper,but it were it was worth it it really,was,so that worked very well that works with,low levels then you have well levels,low levels,but then you have realized you have to,adapt to different levels so that game,was okay as an introduction but i needed,to find something with a bit more meat,in it so that they could like get into,it so we decided to do crosswords do you,know do you like crosswords yeah yeah,yeah some people when you say crosswords,oh no i hate crosswords that's what you,do on the beach in the summer and i'm,like no we do it this way so just show,you,this is a crossword we have two halves,not,separate one half the other half,i take a half and i give them the other,half if it's a group you give a half to,each group split them into you know two,little groups,what they have to do so for example four,across what is it so if you had this,page you would have to,explain the words give me details give,me clues but don't tell me the word i,see,fun yeah so you're guessing and you have,the,tips of how many letters but you're,still working on all your vocabulary,exactly and if they get stuck they have,to see how they can split up the word,change it give clues half of it or,whatever so it makes them makes them,work a bit fun and they do they do like,it it does work but it i have lots,actually i have from low levels up into,high levels marketing finance stuff like,that so one for everybody fantastic have,you developed those have you found a,resource for those no i didn't actually,these were over the years i accumulated,them and friends gave them to me or,whatever but uh there are lots of books,on the market but they're not quite the,way i they're literally typical,crossword you have to fill it in and,everything but this is my way to make,them do the work so you find ones that,are pre-made separated or you could yeah,if you had the time who has the time but,if you have the time i separated it out,it's very difficult making that,crosswords but i have enough i think so,sure so then i thought this is very good,this is helping them what else can we do,there's a very good english book shop,i'll do a bit of promotion here,we are in the paris region right yeah,yeah rue de rivoli next to concord,fabulous fabulous shop upstairs they,have an english section and they have,lots of little things like this,okay,now these are little boxes of games,normally they say it's for christmas or,family dinners or whatever but yeah it,works quite well in this this way too,so when i was doing face to face it was,okay i just like go to the lesson with,my little box you know and then,distribute it take a card,do what you have to on the card but then,of course,call it covered changed everything yeah,and i woke up one day and thought what,do i do how do i do this you know what,did you do well again again my little,photocopying so i spent hours see the,cards if i can get them out of that it's,in the whole box so like this right on,the scanner,and then fill up the page and then,photocopy it well actually all the way,around that way around doesn't it okay,so number each page,okay and then send,the group or the one person page number,six,for example that's your page you work,with those clues on that page okay so,there are clues to,this one is more like a cultural thing,it's called get smart but

A Fun Day Out - Amusements, Gravity And Pizza Hut

we're going for a fun day out with,Brooke do you fancy coming with us,yes good morning everyone today is,Wednesday the 4th of January and we are,going out and about today,um we've got a nice field day of fun,planned,a lot of you may know if you've followed,me for a while but we had to find my,tradition of going to the Ireland Brew,carnival on the 1st of January at the,SEC,but I've not been able to do it for the,last few years due to illness and,Corvette and all the rest of it,and we were gonna go this year we were,going to go on the first again Abby and,Adam went on boxing day,um but,the things being the way that they are,just now we knew we were going out today,anyway so we thought well there's no,point in going all the way to Glasgow on,the first and then going all the way to,Glasgow in the fourth again it's just,not economical fuel wise so we decided,to do everything that we needed to do or,wanted to do today,So the plan is we are going to take a,bitter work,that's hard going back to work after the,Christmas break and we are going to drop,graniani at the train station in Glasgow,to see if we're getting the train from,helensburgh in the Glasgow this is her,going back to her work as well,um and then we are at Jack,Brooke,and I are going to the Edinburgh,Carnival and then once we've had fun at,the carnival we've won the Waterbury,head because broke up money for her,Christmas and she was wanting to buy,herself clothes and bits and pieces so,we went at the Clyde Bank last week 29th,I think it was and me and my mom and dad,did our own thing and,then that her own thing,but she doesn't get much because it's,actually a really good shopping center,but not for a 13 year old looking for,clothes so she decided that she would,rather go to Blue head at some point so,we're going to do that today as well so,after the carnival when the head to,bring head we're going to go to Pizza,Hut because we've got the meerkat app so,we'll get to for one and then Jack and I,will have a wander around Brew head,shopping center and so he'll do it,separately but it keeps going shopping,but when she's got her own money and,that's something for her she doesn't,mind it as long as she's on her own she,doesn't like having a big James Brown,shops that she's not into and hopefully,it won't be too busy for her either,because she doesn't like you've been too,busy,so that is a plan it is going to be a,full day and once I've done that we're,going to go to Asda and we're going to,go to the animal session to get dog food,as well so I've got no idea what time,we're going to get back Adam doesn't,start working till two today so he is,going to watch the dogs until,the back one and then,my dad's gonna come in,and watch them from then until we get,back there's a plan I just thought I,would come on and let you know that's,where we're going today including you if,you want to come you're more than,welcome to come with us we're going to,take what footage we can,um,yeah so that is a plan I'm going to,finish emptying the dishwasher and I'll,catch up with you when we're out we're,on the bee foreign,you get with it that's my breakfast,what time is it,25 past nine so we're in Dumbarton just,now getting bit air diesel,then we're gonna drop Gran Yani at the,train station because she's dancing,tonight,well we've had to change of plan we just,turned up at the SEC and we we can't,park where I used to park now because,this car would fit in the Montessori car,park so the car parking would cost us 11,pounds and it would be 15 pounds each,for a brick and Jack even although Jack,wouldn't be riding anything so we would,have been 41 pounds before we even got,into the building so we decided no and,brick has been very mature about it and,agreed and we're going to go to excite,at braehead instead and see what there,is there there's the crime Zone and,there's amusements and crazy Golf and,stuff like that so we'll have fun there,and then we'll go across to the other,bit of pretty head with our Pizza Hut,and do some shopping so I just thought,I'd keep you up to date with what's,going on that's ridiculous isn't it the,prices are shocking anyway we're gonna,head,all these busy people,people fall they're all worried,something's wrong,making it important to be the first in,line so when the cookie crumbles the,best piece they,were,tried there before I,am somehow,me wrong I'm not trying to Swear free,I'm just as bad as you and sometimes,worries,crazy right I'm looking for the brakes,come join me in the search I think,that's what it Why Ticks Are So Hard To Kill

Benji Jones: In the summer of 2019,,a bull was found dead on a farm in North Carolina.,Dead by exsanguination.,Which means it was drained of blood.,The culprit wasn't real-life vampires,,but something just as frightening:,an army of more than 1,000 Asian longhorned ticks.,But here's the thing.,As scary as that sounds,,Asian longhorns are just one,of about 90 tick species found in the US.,All of them suck blood, all of them can carry disease,,and all of them are incredibly difficult to kill.,The Asian longhorned tick is truly a villainous pest.,Not only is it an invasive species,,but it can also clone itself over and over again.,Since it was first reported in 2017,,it's crawled its way to at least 12 other states.,Including where we are here, New York.,Danielle Tufts: OK, so this is an adult.,This looks like the Asian longhorned tick to me.,Jones: So this the infamous,Asian longhorn tick? Tufts: Yep.,Jones: That's Danielle Tufts,,a disease ecologist at Columbia University.,She's studying ticks in Staten Island,to figure out what diseases they carry.,But first, she has to collect them.,Tufts: So, this is what we call a drag cloth,,and it's a meter by meter, so a meter squared.,And basically what we would do,is we just walk at a nice, even, slow pace,and drag this right behind us.,And we'll stop every about 20 meters or so,,and we'll flip the cloth over,,and we'll look for whatever ticks are on the backside.,Jones: Contrary to what many people believe,,ticks don't actively seek you out.,Tufts: Ah, so here's a tick right here.,Jones: Tick spotted!,So many ticks in this forest. Tufts: Oh, yeah.,This is a very ticky forest.,Jones: And they're definitely,not jumping on you from trees.,In fact, ticks can't even jump.,They're actually more like opportunists,who take what they can get.,Tufts: Ticks are what we call sit-and-wait predators,,where they climb up to the top of the blades of grass,and they put their arms out.,And at the top of their arms they have little sticky pads.,And those pads will get attracted to this.,And this is how they get stuck on your pants,or on other animals in the wild as well.,Jones: And what do you call the, like,,when they stick their hands up like this?,Tufts: We call that questing or host-seeking.,Jones: Yeah, ticks are literally on a quest for blood!,And they've mastered the art of extracting it,,all without getting caught.,After a tick crawls onto you,,it sneaks into a concealed crevice, like your armpit.,And after that, it uses two horrifying hooklike structures,to tear into your flesh and keep from falling off.,Then, they insert what is basically a straw,covered in spikes, like a piece of barbed wire,,which makes them even harder to remove.,And this sounds like it would hurt, a lot.,But ticks have another trick up their sleeve,,or rather their mouth.,Saliva.,It's a tick's ultimate weapon to avoid detection.,It contains pain-numbing properties,,so you don't notice them,even as they stab and rip your flesh.,Plus, it suppresses your immune system,,so the wound is less likely to get red or itchy.,That's why ticks can stay in you undetected for days,,even as they grow to several times their normal size.,And if you do find a tick in time to get it off,,it won't die easily.,Tufts says that ticks can survive,for as long as two years without a blood meal.,And they're also masters of the elements.,They can tolerate long periods of drought,,and some species can survive underwater,for two to three days.,So, yeah, flushing them down the toilet or sink,likely won't kill them.,Tufts: If you put them in the sink, sometimes,they'll crawl back out of the sink.,Jones: Now, all of this wouldn't be such a big problem,if it weren't for the diseases they carry.,In the US alone,,they transmit at least 16 diseases to humans.,That's more than any other insect, including mosquitoes.,Lyme disease alone, for example,,infects an estimated 300,000 Americans each year.,And it's only getting worse.,In 2004, there were about 23,000 cases of tick-borne disease,reported to the CDC.,But by 2017,,that number had almost tripled to nearly 60,000.,But what isn't clear is why.,Why ticks and the diseases they carry are spreading.,Though Tufts and other scientists say,that climate change is at least partly to blame.,Tufts: We've been having pretty mild winters,,which can promote survival,,overwintering survival of hosts and of the vectors,,which also will lead to new expansion.,Jones: Whatever the reason, there are tons of ticks.,Pretty much everywhere.,So, the next time you go for a hike,,keep these tips in mind.,Stay on the trails, where ticks are less likely to hang out.,Wear bug spray; preferably something with DEET.,Tuck your pants into your socks,,so nothing can crawl onto your legs.,Wear light clothes, so anything that does get on you,is easy to spot.,And, of course, always do a tick check,once you're out of the woods.,All right, so we're gonna do a tick check,,which you recommend doing after you get out of the woods.

if you don't like this video and,subscribe in the next five seconds,nothing will happen absolutely nothing,hey what's up guys and welcome back to,the channel today we're taking a look at,theme park fail so in this first clip,this boat went down on this water slide,which sounds pretty normal but there was,another boat in his way which,malfunctioned and was stuck there you,have to see what happens next,so in this next lift these two girls,just casually go on a ride on this,fastest roller coaster and what happens,next is hilarious it turns out that one,of them had a week and the force of air,made it fly off let's check it out,oh,so in this next clip this guy jumped out,of a roller coaster to get his phone,which he dropped while he was on ride,this was a huge mistake because nobody,is allowed to just jump off the ride and,start walking near the roller coaster,you have to see what happens after that,so let's check it out,so at this point rightly stopped because,the guy jumped off to find his phone,which fell during the ride you have to,see what happens after that i just,jumped off the train and walked all the,way down here and now the train just,stopped at the top right by these,dangerous rattlers thing,and the worker walked away,okay,ladies and gentlemen may have your,attention please all of our trains have,stopped due to operational difficulties,these are being seated at a big fender,cast member will appear,so in this next clip this guy was at the,water theme park and he actually got,stuck in a looping slide good thing,there was a way out because you can hear,people sliding and there was a huge,chance of them bumping into each other,wow,in this next slip this girl was on a,rollercoaster ride when a seagull,collided right in her face pure seagull,he's probably traumatized for his life,but with that being said let's check out,the clip and make sure you see this,girl's reaction after the collision it's,hilarious,in this next lift this boys decided to,forget the rules and slide on this,flying slide water slide in the wrong,way sliding facing forward is not,allowed because you're gaining a lot,more speed and there is a chance of,flying way higher than you're supposed,to so let's check out the clip and see,what happens after that,so in this next lift this wave machine,malfunctioned in the theme park and,generated a much bigger wave than it was,supposed to this made people bump into,each other and it was a whole lot of,disaster but with that being said let's,check out the clip,so this first wave was massive but wait,until you see the second wave it's way,bigger and people just go flying,so in this next lift this dad and his,daughter go on a slingshot ride and it,turns out that this dad had a clinical,fear of hype but he still accepted,daughter software to make her happy this,is so sweet from his side but it's so,funny how he keeps panicking while his,daughter just smiles and keeps enjoying,the ride,this is stupid,this is stupid,this is stupid oh my god courtney,where'd it play,so in this next clip this couple were on,a roller coaster ride and this girl was,pretty uncomfortable but her boyfriend,decided to scare her by pushing her off,the seat this almost made her lose,balance and fall from the roller coaster,let's check out the clip,it's gonna be fine,if you enjoyed the video like and,subscribe and tap one of these videos,and i'll meet you there
