Four to Dinner [Quattro metà] (2022) Netflix Movie Review

so my first movie in 2022 happens to be,four to dinner an italian romantic,comedy on netflix was this the right way,to kick off the new year,challenging the concept of soulmates,parallel storylines portray four single,friends as they pair up in different,couple combinations basically this is a,what if type of movie that involves two,different couples we have a married,couple who's having a conversation with,another of their couple friends about,the idea of soul mates they discuss if,they exist or why they may not actually,work in execution to illustrate their,standpoint the married couple tells a,tale of four of their friends julia,kiara daario and mateo the four are,invited to a dinner as sort of a dating,setup and then the movie follows the,pairings but as we watch one first date,scenario play out the movie then takes,us back to the dinner where the four are,introduced and swaps the pairings so for,the remainder of the film we watch four,different couplings play out there's,julia and mateo julia and dario dario,and kiara and matteo and kiara this is a,bit confusing at the beginning because,the movie does such a great job of,seamlessly transitioning between the,relationships we could be watching julia,and daario having a conversation and,then as julia answers a phone call it,has transitioned to julia and mateo's,relationship it does become less,confusing as the story goes along but,there are so many parallels that we,witness that it can become convoluted if,you're not paying attention many of the,parallel sequences have the actors,wearing the same outfits which is great,for moving the story forward and,creating seamless transitions but it,does also mess with your head from a,storytelling angle now this is an,interesting take on the whole who ends,up with whom scenario it has an almost,definitely maybe feel to it but i think,that's just because we're being told a,story where there are several,possibilities and what really happened,just hasn't been revealed yet the,relationship sucked me into this story,and not because they're all cutesy and,lovey-dovey i mean there's drama and,discomfort that comes into these as well,as some good humor some sweet moments,and then certainly moments that will,frustrate you because of character,actions something i really liked is that,i couldn't pinpoint which relationship i,wanted to succeed through most of this i,mean there were aspects in each that,worked or were heartwarming but then,there are also moments in each that made,me not enjoy the dynamic like the couple,just wasn't clicking how i wanted them,to and that's part of the brilliance of,the storytelling we get to see the good,and the bad mixed all together making,each relationship seem more real which,also at times made characters,frustrating to watch i really like that,because we get to see the four different,pairings it allows us to see all kinds,of possibilities for their outcomes it,also pits these hypothetical,relationships against each other making,for an entertaining watch to see which,one is going to come out on top which is,going to be successful in the areas that,matter to each couple i mean the story,throws a lot of curveballs into this to,complicate the dynamics but this creates,just more intrigue on my part i also,like how the story began framing,characters in one way but then as the,story goes along it shows us more and,more about them which then caused me to,change who i was rooting for and why now,this is a quick and easy watch at only,90 minutes it does not stay its welcome,and it kept moving at a good pace now,there are some slower moments in this,but not in the pacing the story takes,some breathers for emotional beats but,never lets the momentum drag or be lost,now i mentioned that it was hard to,pinpoint which relationship i wanted to,work but by the end i had landed on the,pairings that felt like they worked the,best for all involved something,frustrating though is that the movie is,switching the pairings right up until,the very end so it makes it difficult to,be certain of who ends up with whom now,i do believe though that the final,visual we have is representative of the,true couples and so i became satisfied,with that now for me i had a concern,that was always running through my head,during this and it was whether or not,this was going to get tiresome i mean,would the cuteness wear off and would,this become depressing or even irksome,because of the constant switching i,think that because the story takes us,through several different emotional,journeys during the course of this movie,this stays away from becoming tired or,aggravating i mean had we just been,shown date after date with no real,progression of feelings relationships or,even character growth then yeah it,probably would have lost its shine,pretty quickly but because we have some,emotional ups and downs through the,course of this it stays fresh and even,relatable in certain aspects so overall,for to dinner is a compelling look at,differ
