1985 episode of NBC's "Today" featuring The Breakfast Club cast

1985 episode of NBC's "Today" featuring The Breakfast Club cast

The Breakfast Club is a new movie about, teenagers it's a story of what happens,to five high school students a brain a,beauty a jock a rebel a recluse they're,forced to spend their Saturday together, because they're all in detention joining,us this morning are the beauty and the, rebel Molly Ringwald and Judd Nelson, good morning and welcome to both of you,to either of you why you have the five,of those students been cast together, into in detention what what and then, what happens well you sort of find out, during the course of the movie you know,we want to give any away any secrets but,we're all in there for our little, individual crime which you know a couple,of the more serious and others and what, happens is is where a lot happens we're,all really incredibly honest and when, people are honest a lot of interesting, things happen it doesn't happen that, much you the character you play Molly is,named Claire Standish which tells us,quite a lot about her I think what else, should we know about Claire the beauty, well, she's she can be described as the girl, that you grew up hating you know she's a,prom queen homecoming queen filthy rich,oh you know perfect clothing and, everything and she's one of these real, kind of she looks real superficial not, very intelligent and she appears that, way but she turns out not to be that way,and jawed who do you play uh I play John, bender who's I guess you could say he's,from the wrong side of the tracks he's,at the school and feels sort of that,he's in this poker game in which all the, cards are marked but everyone else knows, what the Marxist stand for except him, well he's a bit angry now you can speak, like that because you are nothing at all, like this John you in fact are a,prepster from from way back yeah we'll,get into that a little bit but why don't,we pause and and see a clip from The,Breakfast Club what I was getting to,Judd you play a hood when you in fact, went to one of the finest prep schools,in the country in real life how did you,go back and recall what life is a hood,in a public high school might be like, well I have to draw on my imagination a,great deal but in addition to that, rehearsed outside of Chicago and I went,to an actual high school in the area for, about a week and tended classes and was,a quiet corner observer looking like, jawed or like John like John with the, hair and yes with the hair in the, clothes so that the kids in the school, would treat me the way that they would, treat a character like John which is to,say how with a great deal of,condescension again it was great to get,the sense of oppression that I think, runs rampant in public high schools,Dean's in the hallways Hall monitors, principals telling you what to do every, second yeah I remember that yeah Molly, you want in playing Claire I take it you, don't feel a lot like a Claire type how,did you know how to do huh well I I'm,still in high school and you're 17 I'm,yeah I'm gonna be 17 this month and, there's girls like Claire in every, school you know I mean there's no school, without a Claire Standish and I've,observed them a great deal you know and,it was it was really easy was a lot of,fun you've been working as an actress so,you were telling me actually you're,we're singing it at 5-4 professionally, you began at 13 what kind of parts does, molly ringwald tend to get well usually,so far we see probably the normal sort,of teenage all-american kind of you know,I mean I don't know I mean my parts are, changing now Claire was a lot different, than the character I played before that, and another movie I just did surviving,it's a character that's a lot different, than Claire so it is very sad you are,the old man as you put it of this group, you're 24,did-did-did were you cast and not in,characters but amongst these actresses,is it in a four he figure did your age, make a difference I know I think I,probably behave in the most immature, fashion of the five so I don't think, that I was cast to be the father figure, you know yeah you haven't been a,teenager for a long time how was it,going back uh real easy it's real easy,to do,I mean I was I was very serious I think, when I was 16 and 17 and 18 and it was a,nice to return to that type of,seriousness yeah well thank you for, being with us it looks like a an,interesting movie and tomorrow morning,we'll meet the other members of The,Breakfast Club Ally Sheedy Emilio,Estevez and Anthony Michael Hall what, happens when five high school students a,jock a brain a recluse a revelant of,beauty are forced to spend their,Saturday together in detention, well it's a new movie called The,Breakfast Club yesterday we met the, rebel and the beauty this morning we'll,talk to the recluse if she has anything,to say the jock in the brain Ally Sheedy,Emilio Estevez and Anthony Michael Hall, and welcome you could have played the, beauty what yes Ali you you chose to,play no they chose well I'm okay I say, that that physically you could have, played them the beauty but here you are, cast as a as a recluse who was seems

The Breakfast Club: Getting to know each other HD CLIP

The Breakfast Club: Getting to know each other HD CLIP

i mean i don't think either one of their, kids about me it's like they used me,just to get back at each other, shut up you're just feeling sorry for, yourself, yeah if i didn't nobody else would oh,you're breaking my heart, sporto what, you get along with your parents well if,i say yes i'm an idiot right, you're an idiot anyway but if you say,you get along with your parents, well you're a liar too,you know something man we weren't in,school right now i'd waste you,can you hear this you want me to turn it,up,hey phyllis i mean,i don't i don't like my parents either i,mean i don't you know i don't,i don't i don't get alone i mean their, idea of you know, parental compassion is just you know, wacko you know doing yeah, you are a parent's wet dream okay, well that's a problem look i could see,you getting all bunged up for them, making you wear these kind of clothes, but face it you're a neo-maxi zoom, dweeby, what would you be doing if you weren't,out making yourself a better citizen, why do you have to insult everybody,i'm being honest i would expect you,to know the difference yeah well he's,got a name, yeah yeah what's your name, brian see my condolences, what's your name, what's yours claire, claire claire it's a family name,oh it's a fat girl's name oh thank you, you're welcome, not fat well not a present but i could, see you really pushing maximum density, you see i'm not sure if you know this, but there are two kinds of fat people, there's fat people that were born to be,fat and there's fat people that were, once, thin but they became fat so when you, look at them you can sort of see, that thin person inside you see you're,gonna get married, you're gonna squeeze out a few puppies, and then,oh i've seen finger gestures from such a,pristine, girl i'm not that pristine are you a,virgin,i'll bet you a million dollars that you, are, let's end the suspense is it gonna be a,white wedding why don't you just shut up,have you ever kissed a boy on the mouth, have you ever been felt up over the bra, under the blouse shoes off, hoping to god your parents don't walk in,do you want me to puke, you

The Breakfast Club | What Makes Allison Behave So Strange? (Analysis By Professional Therapist)

The Breakfast Club | What Makes Allison Behave So Strange? (Analysis By Professional Therapist)

I want to talk about The Breakfast Club, without talking about the things we're,probably all aware of we know this is a,film about archetypes on some level, these five characters the brain that, athlead the basket-case the princess and,the criminal we noticed the film about, how people get stuffed into rigid, categories that don't fully encapsulate, them but what we found out is that each, one of us is a brain and an athlete and,a basket-case oppressor and a criminal,The Breakfast Club is a film about five, kids who all have detention on a,Saturday for various different reasons,as a result they're supposed to sit in,the school library and write an essay on,who they think they are as the film goes,on they talk and connect and end up a,close-knit group who each learn more, about themselves what I do want to talk, about because this will be the focus of,the scene I analyze is the character,Allison and let me just say the actress, who plays Allison is brilliant in this, film Ally Sheedy,I think she's called you see she has, this Jolie way of moving and talking, where it feels like the stuff she says, and does just explodes out of her, without intention like she's in battle, with herself over whether to speak or to,stay silent part of her journey across, this film is finding the capability to,speak because she's completely mute for, most of the first half of this film she, doesn't answer then when she starts to,talk it's got this job he feels away and, then she slowly finds her way into the, group and by the end she's changed her, appearance from black colors to white, which is symbolically shedding her hard, exterior to dare reveal the fragile, person beneath the other thing you see,in her acting though is these ahem odd, movements of hers which,I'm just gonna call the faces of,pleasure you know she bites her bottom, lip a lot as she talks and just watch, what she does with her face here as she, sits down Alison as a character is a,kleptomaniac in this film she enjoys, stealing things and that's what's being, revealed in this moment here at the film, she walks over triumphantly announcing, that she knows Bryan's social security, number and all sorts else because she, stole his wallet but there's something, slightly pleasurable to her about having, stolen his wallet knowing all this stuff, about it when you see that there in her, face and I can't say I know a huge, amount about kleptomania but as far as I,do understand part of the behavior is,the intense level of thrill you get from, stealing stuff you're not supposed to,it's like an act of blowing off steam, releasing some pressure when when you're,at a state of high anxiety you can, replace that feeling with a thrill, instead you might impulsively suddenly, steal something like you don't have any, control over yourself to stop it,happening which is behavior that of,course fits with this Joey out of,control way she moves and speaks anyway,it is kind of relevant and we are going,to draw on that stuff again as we,explored them through an analysis of the, scene that it's about to unfold here the, camera cuts away to a conversation, between Claire and bender then it comes, back to these free and it's kind of,these two conversations happening at the, same time but we're focusing on this one, firstly she's positioned right out on,the very end of the sofa leaned forwards, clutching her bag tied beneath both arms, like it's precious the complete opposite,to everyone else who were happily, rummaging through each other's bags,Alison finds that level of opening up,difficult she spent half the film, keeping her distance from everyone else, and your schoolbag is a very personal, object in many ways we get this shot of,her though as Andrew is currently, teasing Brian over his fake ID she, glances at them only to timidly glance, away again a second later she wants to,join in this conversation and be a part,of it yet she's also afraid of opening,up to that extreme i thou, she would take kindly to Andrew teasing, her the way he's currently teasing Brian, even if it is done very friendly anyway, she's sitting there like she's,rehearsing what she wants to say to them,in her mind and when there's a pause she, speaks but she doesn't dare to make eye, contact of course they say no because,Alison had been this weird kid who, cultivates this image of herself as a,basket case and who deliberately keeps a,distance from people you see this here,is going to be a generalization that, won't apply in every case but it does, apply specifically to Alison that part,of all the black she wears part of,pouring her dandruff like snow onto a,picture part of eating her nails that, sugar increase sandwich they're talking, about vodka and everything else she does,to freak them out a bit it's all like a,sign that says keep out keep your, distance, stay away from me I mean speaking of,someone who was quite weird at school, and reveled in being strange weirdness,is a great tool for saying keep your, distance to people because you find, delight in confusing everyone and if,they're c

Nipsey Hussle Talks New Album, West Side Protocols, Cardi B, Diddy + More

Nipsey Hussle Talks New Album, West Side Protocols, Cardi B, Diddy + More

you're watching The Breakfast Club, morning everybody is DJ envy Angela Yee,Charlemagne to God we are The Breakfast,Club we got a special guest in the, building here yes what up what up what,up what's up my brother what's the deal, bro I don't know nothing about LA,politics but are you allowed to wear, that much red I could do what I want I,like I really like that with the colors, you wear or it depends like again I'm,everybody Know Who I am far as where I,belong so you know I'd be seeing like, internet comments sometime when I'd be,flamed up but in LA you know me we grew,up if he was a real where want that's it,don't really apply you know saying I,mean it's like if I'm in somebody else, here with a gang of red on and I'm not a,known face and I'm gonna yeah, they're probably I probably get a dress, but I don't think I'll have that problem, doesn't it you know saying, congratulations on the album yeah, victory lap in stores they'll grab that, stream that all that I've had so it took, too long right you had a lot to prove on,it I did let's talk about it now,the album's don't first and foremost I,love the album oh I heard it on the west, coast when I was there for all-star,weekend it's only right and then I heard,it here it didn't sound the same to snow, didn't make me feel West cause when I'm,back home right but um,seems like on the album you you really, proven that you know I hear a lot that, you don't like widowed rappers thanks, you don't like where there was a weirdo, rapper to you well I think you jump up,the line when I was like this ain't this, weird I rap you used to,yeah I just feel like you know um I felt, pressure a little bit from where the, game is that and I know distant nobody, specific just like it ain't it ain't um,in a direction of what we grew up on in,terms of like you got to say something, you know I mean you got to be a man, respect or a woman to respect you know I,mean even from like just the drug stuff, like you know that I was never go,fighting rap culture week almost like, led by Scarface a jay-z or,Tupac lyrics if we ain't had no,principles like a man around we could, live by the lyrics and come out as a,solid individual that's what I meant, just as far as like you know just, returning to that direction I don't know, like telling people what to do,but just you know try to represent the, principles that I grew up on in rap, music that's one thing I like a bunch of,music it always has socially redeeming, value to it and on dedication, you know Kendrick said that his man L,said do a song with nip he had better, crypt with Kendrick said he a man first, yeah you hear what he speaks about from, black businesses and false imprisonment, and he said listen closest bigger than, deuces in four so is that a challenge, for you to get people to see you for, more than a stereotypical west coast, gangster rapper,I think that I mean people people, received me based on what I said so I I,wouldn't I wouldn't blame people for, that I came in and said this where I'm,from and this is my represent but it was,for a reason I wanted I wanted to,establish you know what I belong to and,I looked at it like jail that's what I,should tell my homies because even some,of my homeboys would be like but you, can't come out talking about the hood, specifically you not me but I'm just, like you know um when you walk into a,dorm the first thing you establish is,where you from and then from there you,get into the person behind this just in,case whoever got a problem with this, wherever your enemies is you go to the, back you honey your business and then, you get into like okay I could actually, with you you you know I mean we get,to know each other but you get that out,the way first, and so um also I wanted to I wanted my,message to impact gang culture you know,I'm saying I wonder what I had to say to,impact individuals like myself young, people I was in the areas I was, controlled by a gang banging I didn't,want to preach to the choir but I wanted,to be able to say you know I'm
