Save Our Bees!

good morning everybody I hope you all, well today,my name is Susan lemon,I'm here at Abigail's bed-and-breakfast,in in Ashland Oregon,so this is our garden,I've spent the last week waiting for the, rain to disappear and it hasn't,a small break in the clouds and I've,decided that today's the day I have to,do the video so this is my be pollinator, garden,I think it's looking quite stunning at,the moment if I have to say so myself,I just love all the flowers lots of,things are popping up every day now the, puppies are beginning to die off the,California puppies but there's always, something else to take their place, hydrangeas on the hero beginning to,flower so this is my B garden, this is called the fairy garden and I,just let it grow wild, could all of this because of the rain, today in the last few days they haven't,been too many bees and bumblebees around, but normally this place is just covered, with him,big fat healthy bumblebees I don't know, they're beginning to come out a little, bit not sure if you can see them this is,my clever look I have a little dragonfly, they,my proud son it took me quite a while to,get certified as a bee pollinator garden,I had to get rid of all the other, chemicals that the previous owners used,so now I use everything local locally, made by myself and organic look I have a,daylily there that's a first, normally the deer eat them before I can,get to them,I seem to feed the deer quite a lot yeah, there's a bit of barrage you can use, those little flowers in your salads, they're edible and I seem to have a few, little red poppies popping up here, there's all sorts of things hiding in,here my Rose Marie,I've got a few roses yeah that have been, here for many many years but again the, deer love nibbling on the fresh roots, from our daisies, lavenders coming into bloom, little bit of lobelia there a few, petunias,my crape myrtles, this is called the mound, and Lily's up there are gonna bloom, shortly I get a lot of hummingbirds up,there, all the irises they're dying off this is,my sage plant the bees just love the, sage plant and on here lots of time with, all its little flowers or the crape, myrtle,I've got my basal down there planted, grapes all coming out he's all my herbs, mint parsley that's about to flower the, bees love the little flowers on the, parsley tiny little grapes,so we burned Abigail's now since 2014 my,husband and I are originally from,Zimbabwe landed in Ashland with our four, suitcases and here we are over the years, have put my heart and my soul into this, garden so I hope that you've enjoyed, this little tour with me seeing, everything and I'm sorry we're not going,to have our garden tour but I hope that, this suffices and I cannot believe how,the sun's just come out for this,I really am pleased gosh look at all my,lilies they are going to be stunning, that's it for today everybody and I hope, that we get to see you at Abigail's,bed-and-breakfast in Ashland Oregon next, year take care stay safe bye

BnB French Berry Cake

BnB French Berry Cake

morning everybody I'm Susan from Abby, gasping breakfast in here in Ashland and,Oregon so today I just thought I would, show you a very quick French fruitcake, normally it's done with strawberries but, today I'm gonna use some frozen, blueberries and some raspberries just to,get a little bit of a taste so this, machine yacht that I'm using is a,thermomix machine it's I've had this, machine for more than 10 years I used to,do teaching and a school with it and,it's a lifesaver it's an amazing little, machine so it's called a thermo mix so,it does everything for me,and I use it a lot for my baking so one,of the nice things about it is that it,weighs everything for me so I call it my,one pot stop so what you do is just way,out I'm gonna give you an example yeah, because I've weighed with the rest of,the stuff so I'm gonna weigh my butter, here so there's a weighing scale in,built into this machine and this is the, scale here so I'm just gonna cut my,butter and I need one stick which is,normally about 100,13 grams so I discovered when I first, came here we normally work in grams so,I'm gonna wear a hundred and thirteen, out so I will put this recipe up for, people to have a look at and it's really, easy so I always say about recipes that, they are a guidance to something greater,so I'm gonna say that's roughly about it,so as I was saying about a recipe I find, recipes always a guidance to something, greater,if you've been baking for a long time, you can normally figure out what, shouldn't what shouldn't go in a recipe, sometimes you get lucky and it works out, well other times it's a bit more, difficult especially when baking is in,my opinion considers its chemistry so,just be careful about what you do when, you're first doing a recipe for baking I,will say stick to the actual recipe and,get comfortable with it before you start, messing around,so with this recipe we need one stick of,butter,we need a cup of sugar so I'm gonna, stick that in and what we need to do is,we need to cream those nuts rich so my,machine's gonna do all of this for me so,I don't have to do it and I don't have,to use a whisk or anything else,so this is how quickly it creams butter, and sugar it's got a very strong nail in,there so that's my buttery sugar cream,so the next thing that this recipe is,gonna ask for is eggs, that's our food I'm not using,so what I'm gonna do here now is just, write down my sides I'll show you and it,will look a bit congealed that's the, only word I can use for this always, looks like this when you start adding, liquids to the butter and the sugar but, don't worry because it comes together, just persevere the other way I just, wanted you to see me using this machine,so let's we're gonna do is take the, stainless steel ball in an old mixing, bowl,I love these find use in good whoa, they're just wonderful that wonderful, for baking for mixing stuff for doing, egg whites they're just very versatile,so into this but I'm going to put and, this is a woman,a 1 and 1/3 cup of all-purpose flour, one report two teaspoons of baking, powder I'm gonna let alone for salt, because the thick salt always actually, brings up the flavor in something so,just add a little bit of salt will be,amazed at the difference I use it a lot,in making eggs because it just brings, out the flavor of oats and you don't,accept good sugar in them just a honey, anyway so what I'm gonna do different, today is I'm actually gonna put another, yeah quite like the idea of sin,I'm gonna throw myself, and the other thing that I'm gonna try,it today, breakfast I'm a shooting occurs in,several elements and other elements so,these are just almonds that have been, seen the skins taken off them and just, cut into, and the next thing I'm going to do is,put my written my presidency,so some that sometimes recipes call for, fresh fruit some reason I think when,it's frozen it seems to hold the cake, together a little bit better and instead,of sinking to the bottom they stay kind,of central to the paper,so this is me I'm just gonna make sure,my foots covered in the flour, that's another seat picture stuff fruit, sinking into the bottom of the tank, cover it with flour, turn it off and there's your mix as you,can see it's still fairly cold I,wouldn't worry too much about that way I,mean what I'm gonna do is just add that,to my dry ingredients when you're baking, especially for the first time I think,it's quite important to get all your, greedy and sent out first I don't have,to necessarily weigh them but just have, them together so you're not running, around wasting time looking for stuff, just put them all on the table go,through your recipe then I always say, break it down into ABC so put all your, dry ingredients that you need or your, wet ingredients and then other additions, lastly and look at that way so much, easier to make your cake so I'm just, gonna fold this all in I always fold and,I never stir I like to fold don't know, why I just I think it gives a little bit, more ear you're not overworking the cake, too much or the better an

Abbeymoore Manor wins Top 10 in the World award

Abbeymoore Manor wins Top 10 in the World award

one of the dozens of bed-and-breakfast,in Victoria has a new feather in its cap, this week the a beam or manner in the,Rocklin neighborhood has been named the, best B&B in the country by users of Trip,Advisor calm and that's not all,a beam or Manor has also been rated, second best in the world on the website, the owners Ian McPhee and an Moser chalk,it up to impeccable service and a,professional atmosphere it's not the, kind of B&B where you get stuck in,Johnny's old room after he's gone off to,university and the breakfast goes beyond, the standard full English or bacon and, eggs and khalil act are joined en McFee,for a tour the thing to realize about,TripAdvisor is that it isn't so much, about the house is about the people that, run it and about the what you offer the, guests as they as they stay with you,it's it's Trip Advisor's as a site, written by people who have had an,experience and they rate their, experience with you as much as your, property so so from our perspective we,are both you know long time travelers,Ann and I have travelled around the, world we both had a lot of corporate, travel in our past and we knew what we,liked and didn't like so we really have, tried to put that into play here and and,we've tried to make sure people are, really comfortable there are five, bedrooms for people to look from so,there's two queen beds three king beds, there are different amenities in each, room there is um this is our Rose room, this is our most popular room in the, winter so it's a really pretty room and,has lots of spaces is obviously a,characteristic of these old houses it,has um you know has a nice fireplace, that's it's a replica but it it works, really well it has a fabulous shower,it's built in all of our rooms have, ensuite I'd say that's one of the most, important features of a good B&B yeah, with no shared washrooms,no shared washrooms that's uh that's the, kiss of death and B&B world so we're,lucky to have had this all done when we,bought it well not all that not all done, but all the being all the washrooms were, here, yes so so breakfast is a saying in the,bed-and-breakfast world that uh,breakfast is the bigger B of course we,take that to heart all three of us can, cook and and these days Michelle is our, primary cook she's um she's got great, skills great inventiveness and she can,do an awful lot in the kitchen for us,which is great and of course is a,remains the reigning champion Baker she,has baked more than probably ten, thousand scones and lost five years and, they're unlike anything else so,breakfast for us is served either, community at a family-style table or for, those who are a bit shy we have tables, for two and in the summertime we have, five tables on the outdoor porch so,people can enjoy some El fresco dining, breakfast is a two stage affair which, usually starts with the fresh fruit, course accompanied by some events, amazing baking and and is um has been, baking scones for six years and and, she's yet to be yet to be be that's for, sure,so fruit and yogurt and a fresh scone, and then we go into a hot breakfast and, traditionally it's savory we'll do such, things as a seafood crepe we'll do,Dungeness crab cake Eggs Benedict we'll,do a Mediterranean frittata with grilled, grilled asparagus grilled peppers and, several different cheeses we do a one of,the more exotic things we do is the type, wrong omelet it's it's an omelet that's,filled with some sauteed tiger prawns, and then it's topped with a mild red,Thai curry sauce which is has a tropical, fruit relish on top and the side that, goes with it is a new potato that's been,flash-fried and then finished with a,little place in sauce so it's a really, interesting mix of Asian flavors over, eggs and it's uh scares the daylights, out of people when they when they hear, about it but they try it and almost, almost unanimously they just go wow, isn't that amazing so no bacon and eggs, necessarily on the menu you know you can, have bacon and eggs at home and you can, have bacon eggs just anywhere you like, but we're we don't do that traditional, the two things that we don't do we don't,do bacon and eggs unless unless, requested and we don't do the same thing, every day, having travelled through different B&BS,around the world,I'm not a fan of the same thing every, day and if someone's here for three or,five days I don't see why we should do,that yeah I think um we're pretty, fortunate to be in this in this business,it's a it's a pretty neat neat lifestyle,it um you know allows us to work, together as a family it gives us a nice, home to live in it gives us you know it,gives us some the joy that comes through, the door every day is amazing a lot of,us we all come from jobs where like all, jobs there is the good and the bad the, happy customer the unhappy customer and, with us,I guess as as evidenced by the,TripAdvisor reviews you know 99% of our, customers are very very happy and and, that just makes it an easy an easy, lifestyle to have it's really good what,is this what is this TripAdvisor rating, mean in terms o

Overnight in Axe Murderer's House (Lizzie Borden Hauntings)

Overnight in Axe Murderer's House (Lizzie Borden Hauntings)

gave her, mother 40 wax,so allegedly on august 4th 1892,lizzie borden killed her stepmom with an,axe,we come into this world screaming and, most of us go out screaming, the entire light disappeared like just, like a giant like a big, object moved you're stronger than this, thing is it can't touch you unless you,let it touch you,all signs point to lizzie as the, murderer but a lot of people don't talk, about the maid, maggie there's a spiritual war going on,24 7,between good and evil all of us when we,least expect it,are gonna die, what's up guys it's sam and colby today,we are here with katrina stoss and our,new friend, amanda who is actually a medium hey you, guys,my name is amanda ray and for those of,you who don't know me uh i'm a medium, which means that i can see,and speak to people who have passed on,this has been something that i've been, doing since before i was, even really able to speak so you can see,and talk to dead people which is,fantastic because tonight,we're staying overnight at the most, famous,us murder mystery house the lizzie, borden, house we're about to go through the, entire house and do a whole like tour, and everything like that, but in order to do it this whole video, justice you guys got to,realize how insane this story is the, best place to start would be,lizzie borden's grave that's here a,minute down the road, all right let's go,oak grove cemetery closed from dusk till, dawn all right guys we are in,the graveyard right now totally forgot, that it was super late already and that, there's like a thousand graves in here, and there's cops coming great yeah we,have to find the entire borden family,i think this is it right there yeah she,was buried next to her her sister and, then there's,aj borden that's andrew borden her, parents alice was one of the sisters and, then there's emma, and that's lizzie's right there we're,about to go take a tour of the lizzie, borden house but before we do that i'm,just going to give you the spark notes, really quick so basically there was a,christian girl named lizzie borden, living in her house with her sister she,had a stepmom, and her father and all the entire family, did not get along whatsoever, however the parents were super super, rich so of course lizzy was wondering, where that inheritance would go,to who's gonna get the money pretty much, she was very scared that the stepmom, would actually end up getting that, inheritance and all the property and, everything like that,so she knew she had to do something, about that so allegedly,on august 4th 1892 lizzie borden wait, until her dad, left the house went upstairs and killed, her stepmom with an,axe axed her 19 times in a very very, brutal murder and then waited for her,dad to get back, and did the same thing to him the only, other person at the house during the, time of the murders was a,maid named bridget sullivan but they, they called her margaret or maggie but,for some reason in trial she stuck up,for lizzie, and they ended up both getting off,scot-free and living the rest of their, lives, not having to go to jail no consequences,at all this is still,an unsolved mystery to this day but, there is a lot of evidence that shows, why, lizzie borden was in fact the person, that killed her parents, and then what we're trying to figure out, today is why would maggie the, maid lie on the stand and basically, vouch for lizzie,in these murders and more importantly, how did the cops not realize that it was, lizzy when honestly there was a lot of,evidence where they could figure it out,for example a couple days before this, happened lizzie told her friend that, something was about to happen to her, father and she attempted to buy, cyanide at a store there's another fact, where literally it's rumored that, lizzy's dad killed her pigeons with a,hatchet in her basement, and what murder weapon did lizzie choose,to murder them quote unquote,a hatchet basically all signs point to,lizzie as the murderer but,a lot of people don't talk about the, maid maggie so hopefully we can talk to,the dead, get some answers and figure out why this, place is so haunted amanda do you think, you could like, talk to these people well i mean the, whole reason that i'm here is because a,lot of youtubers use equipment like, dowsing rods, things like that that they say work you, guys took it one step further and found, somebody who can, actually communicate straight with the, dead so god,i'm super excited she came here on this, trip without knowing anything she, specifically asked not to know the, information, and when we first pulled up to do the, intro what did you see,the woman came out to greet us she, called herself margaret,oh so i asked you guys i was like you, guys know anything about a margaret like,is that connected to this house, and you go no and then we're at dinner, and we find out the maid, bridget went by margaret yeah maggie, the maid the one who took care of the, house she saw walk out of the house, already like again, blows my mind to actually see dead, people but that was the first thing she,saw without knowi

8 Major Challenges Hotels, Bed & Breakfasts & Resorts Face | Ep. #054

8 Major Challenges Hotels, Bed & Breakfasts & Resorts Face | Ep. #054

welcome to hospitality property school, you are listening to hospitality, property school with your host Jerry,McPherson, well hello hello and welcome to another, edition of hospitality property school,I'm your instructor Gerry McPherson and, today I'm going to look at challenges, hospitality properties face working with, hospitality properties for almost 25,years has given me much awareness on the, problems many properties encounter these, can vary from missing a poor review on,TripAdvisor to a collapse of an,organizational structure the following, are the top eight challenges I have seen, hotels resorts inns and Bed & Breakfasts, face on a daily basis these are no,particular order one not paying, attention or disregarding online reviews, nowadays it is impossible to dismiss the, overwhelming power and influence of,social media as much as some hotel yers, would like to thank the power of social, media cannot be ignored with close to,sixty percent of the hospitality, property reservations made online I am,still surprised that many hospitality, properties don't bother to keep on top,of their online status without tracking, what guests are saying online about, their products and services or comparing, themselves to other competitors it is,difficult to see what your guests see as,problems and how to improve to not, focusing on budget many independent, hospitality property owners do not have,a true understanding of their costs and, will accept any business that comes, their way even if they are losing, revenue running a hotel resort in or,bed-and-breakfast is a business and, there is nothing wrong with making a,profit on your rooms meals and services, but to do this you have to know your, costs it is better to add value than to,discount and it is important to continue,to focus on your ideal guests profile to,ensure you attract the right demographic,3 not setting up an organizational, structure not developing a structured, organizational system for your business, can be devastating to your reputation, and bottom line a workable, organizational structure for, hospitality property is imperative to,ensure you have the checks and balances,in place for consistency in your, operation for not investing employees, not training your employees can damage, your name hiring a nephew or the, daughter of a friend is alright but you, have to give them the proper tools to do,the job giving them responsibilities and, expecting them to learn on their own, while living up to the property, standards can have a damaging impact and, lead to a loss of revenue it goes, without saying being a service industry, the personal interactions with guests, are still the most valuable the most, remembered and commented on ongoing, training is imperative in keeping your, employees motivated professional and, ahead of your competition five websites, not optimized we all know having a,website for your property is imperative, but how many hospitality property, websites are optimized the following are, examples of what is commonly overlooked, not having a promotions page not, rewarding guests for booking on their, website not promoting the number one, product not being optimized for, smartphones and tablets it is not, acceptable for a hospitality property to,just have a website and expect to get, direct bookings the playing field has, changed quickly with technology and the, competition is getting stronger across, many different channels having a defined,12-month online marketing strategy can, make all the difference and ensure you,get the most out of your website, investment 6 no proper data and analysis,it is increasingly important to have a,basic awareness of your data and to,continue to focus energy and marketing, budgets where you are achieving the most, positive results without proper, analytics you might be wasting your, marketing budget or missing out on what, your customers want without the proper, information many properties dismiss the, idea they have issues and without this, realization problems are, nearly impossible to fix or to improve,on the bottom line when you lack data, and analysis you're throwing money out,the window seven not getting repeat, business, good business people of all stripes work, hard at customer retention because they, know it's a lot more effective and, cheaper to retain an existing customer, than to go out and try to find a new one, that wisdom is especially relevant for, hospitality property owners whose idea,of hospitality creates personal as well,as commercial connections for the people, who stay with them in fact many, hospitality property owners stress that, their favorite part of work comes from, the friendships they make among their, guests it is important to build those, connections between your guests and your, property in other words keep your, visitors coming back and eight, collecting revenue during the slow times, thinking about ways that can bring in,more money during the down times even, when you're not bringing in guests and,by this I mean not planning long-term or,checking out the competitio
