SDA Communion Bread Making

hi today we're going to make so that, they have in a style communion bread and,it's Friday afternoon and we need to,have this ready for the ladies to put, together at the church this evening so,I'm going to run through very quickly, the way that I do this this is a recipe, that's been handed down through our, church deacon assist for quite a few, years but I do it just a little bit, differently in how I make it and you'll,see how that goes let's talk about the, ingredients first right off the bat the, most important one is what kind of flour, you use and we use whole wheat pastry, flour we find that Bob's Red Mill does a,really good job for us and if you check, the expiration date make sure you get,one that's as far out as you can get it,because obviously unless you're making, for a lot of people this is gonna last, you for a little while keep it in the, freezer and before you use it the next, time set it out either overnight or at,least several hours before so that it,can come back to room temperature we use, canola oil you know a lot of people are, partial to olive oil for the health, benefits and all but the flavour of,olive oil tends to take over in this, bread so for the small little use that, this is going to be we go ahead as with, the coalesced cholesterol-free canola, oil so I was reading the bottle there, and that's that you're gonna need, parchment paper enough sheets for as,many batches as you're going to make we,make about 400 pieces for our church and,so I've got four sheets of parchment, paper set out a dry measuring cup a,liquid measuring cup a nice rolling pin, that you're comfortable using four and a,knife I was I always like to use a knife, that will leave my fingers up off the, counter that makes it helpful when we're,cutting the pieces up sectioning it and,I use a plastic ruler I like the plastic, ruler because I can throw it in the, dishwasher and get it nice and clean for,the next time and then I use, this only for communion bread it's in a,special place where I know that it is,and will not be used for other, applications just so it's dedicated to,cooking okay and a cooling rack a,cooling rack is also very very helpful,to have the part that makes my communion, bread method a little bit different I,think is that I use the ziplock baggies, and don't hesitate to use either kind, the kind with the pull apart or the kind, with the zipper on the top I prefer to,use the kind that's pull apart it just, makes it a little easier later on when, you as you see how we're gonna do this, okay the ingredients we've got them, measured now it's 2 cups of whole wheat, pastry flour 1/2 cup of oil and 1/3 cup,of water and then salt and I use a,kosher salt so we tend to use a little, bit more since it's not quite as strong,as a regular table salt the recipe calls, for one and a half teaspoons of table, salt and I go ahead and use a full two, teaspoons of the kosher salt you'll have,to taste it yourself and see what you, think and give the bread a little taste, even before you bake it and see what you, think about that alright as the, ingredients go in the bag I'll tell you,a little bit about my experience making, communion bread Mike I consider it,pretty much a sacred privilege and so I,always start preparing myself I have I,pray I ask God to bless my efforts that, the bread would be tasty nourishing for,the congregation that they'll be,thinking about what it represents and, that I'll be worthy in the process of,making this that I won't take the task, lightly that it is,a serious thing that I do and I start by,putting the 1/3 cup of water into the,Ziploc baggie and the symbolism for me,is really important I think Jesus told,us that he's the water of life and, without that water all of us would, shrivel up and die without his spiritual, input in our lives without knowing that,he lives for us there would be nothing, worth living for he is the water of life, and then the oil in the Bible we have, many instances where oil is represented,in the tabernacle it's the oil that kept, the lamps lit that made the atmosphere, and in the temple there we think of the,10 virgins by who had enough oil and 5,who did not have enough oil and I think,of the oil as Holy Spirit as Christ's,blessing us and helping us to shine for,the world and without that Holy Spirit,we are really nothing much, when my bread is made and after you've,had communion and tasted the bread, there's usually a little bit of residue, left on your fingers it's a little of,the oily residue that is 1/2 a cup of,oil in there and some people think, that's a lot but it's really not the, residue is really kind of cool because,it's a lingering of the Holy Spirit I,think afterwards and when you shake, hands with others as you leave Church, you get to share that with them measure, out two teaspoons of my kosher salt and,put it right there in the bag with the, liquids Jesus says that we are to be the, salt of the earth we add flavor to the,Christian life is we are not dull and, tasteless if we are well seasoned if we,smile if we're happ

Napa Community Seventh-day Adventist Church - How to Bake Unleavened Bread

Napa Community Seventh-day Adventist Church - How to Bake Unleavened Bread

hi and welcome we're the pettersen Syme, gym and we've been asked to show you how, simple it is to make unleavened bread, for our upcoming virtual communion, service now I want to give a shout out,to our pastors for their creativity, during this very unusual time finding, new ways creative ways to bring us,together as a church family and the, reason for unleavened bread in communion, service does go back to the days of,Jesus with his disciples as he,celebrated the Passover they used, unleavened bread which was a symbol of,going back hundreds of years to the, original Passover when the children of,Israel we're leaving Israel or leaving,Egypt and they didn't have time to let, their bread rise so today we are going,to show you unleavened bread making are,we ready,I think so we're gonna start today with, whole wheat flour 1 cup of whole wheat, flour that's but if we don't have whole, wheat flour can we use something else, you can you can use whatever flour you, have on hand, everything from gluten-free flour to,oats flour to rye flour just have a,different flavor little white flour, sure okay mix flours sure that would be,great, why not okay and then salt it's going to,need some salt to bring out flavor, that's one teaspoon and you don't have,to but you can if you want add a little, bit of sweetener we've chosen to add a,tablespoon of brown sugar and you could,do 1 tablespoon 2 tablespoons go ahead, and mix that up and you could use agave, you could use honey I think there's lots,of different choices of things they, could have but you really don't have to,in fact when I was looking at the, recipes to decide what to do today there, were some, that brings us to our liquid ingredients,we have five tablespoons of water and, four tablespoons of oil does it matter, what kind of oil we use what about chili, what I love you put our pizzas in and, you'll see how quickly it comes together, and you just want to we're almost there, and it's a nice mixture pulls together, well I will turn it over to you okay so,I'm just gonna take it and as you can,see it cleaned the bowl and I'm putting,it on my cookie sheet and you're saying, wait a minute she's putting it on the, back of her cookie sheet, well that's because when you're rolling, out something like this that's so thin,it's a lot easier to do it on the back,of your sheet than on the inside much, especially if you're using a big rolling, pin to do it but I happen to have this, guy which is perfect and wonderful I'm,going to use him but before I start I'm,going to just shape it in kind of a,rectangle because that's the shape of my,cookie sheet so I want it to match and,the trick about rolling out is that you, always want to roll from the inside to,the edges and you don't want to run off,the edges just go from side to side and, and, how thin you're going to make it I'm not, gonna get the ruler out you think we can, wing it yeah just until you're satisfied, now it looks good right, thanks notice how I'm not letting the, roller go off the edge I'm just taking,it up to the edge and stopping and, letting it go from there and the reason, for that is if I let it go off the air,Genie I just get too thin you're gonna, burn yeah I get to crunch of course, maybe you like your crackers out good, which is fine crackers are very you can, feel how even it is you know one thing I,found out when I was doing the samples, some of our cookie sheets are not flat,on the bottom anymore so look for your, flattest cookie sheets for this it's,kind of helpful because if you're using,a big rolling pin especially and you get,to the edge you're gonna have a wonky, thing going on so I think that looks, pretty even so what temperature it's,gonna be 400 degrees be sure your oven,is preheated and ready to go,but before you can put it in the oven, you need to make it into crackers so I,have some tools here as ideas of things, you can use first is a sharp knife and,you just score it into your cracker, shapes and you can make them whatever, size you want or you could use a pizza, cutter or a pastry cutter maybe you have,a antique one this this was an antique, pastry crimper that you could use yep,now we get to the fancy stuff all right, this is my tool of choice and it crimps, and cuts and you can set these as far, apart as you want,so I'm going to use my two, here to cut my crackers and the nice, thing is that you just roll it along and, degrees preheated oven problem 10,minutes longer than that and they'll get,to brown shorter than that and they'll,be gummy and not really cooked in the, middle okay so and look at their magic,we have some you can see they kind of,separate and the edges did get a little, bit darker with 10 minutes but I think, longer than 10 minutes and they'll be,too dark I think 10 minutes is just, right and of course every oven is,different but when you break them apart, you can see how easily they just come, right apart and that would be the same,if you were cutting them with any of the, methods that we talked about we hope, this is of help to you and best wishes, for

Communion Bread Baking Tutorial

hi I'm Maddy Carrington I'm a member, here I am a member here at the mountain,OMA some of the Adventist Church I am,the head Deaconess here and we are, adaptable, since this kovat 19 we have not been, able to have communion so we have to,adapt and today I'm going to be,illustrating how we make our communion, bread that appears every time we take, communion and our sanctuary before I get, started making the communion bread the, first thing I do is I have a word of,Prayer and I ask the Lord to forgive me,of my sins and my transgressions so that, when I'm making this bread I can make it,with a clean clean hands and a clean, heart and that's what we'll do right now, dear Jesus thank you for this, opportunity forgive me from my sins and, transgressions blessed my efforts here, today in Jesus Most Holy Name Amen it's,a really simple recipe the first thing,we do is we add in a cup of brown flour,we add in a cup of white flour and, you're probably saying why do you do,that one of the reasons I do that is,because I want the bread the bread, symbolizes God's body and I want the, bread to resemble his olive skin and, then I add in a teaspoon of 1/2 a,teaspoon of salt once the salt is,combined with the flour and what a lot,of people call the communion bread or,they call it unleavened bread and it's,unleavened bread because it has no,rising agents in it the next thing I'll,do is add my liquids which will be a,half a cup of olive oil and a almost a,half of cup of cold water I usually just, leave a little of the water noting the, bowl because that's what the recipe, calls for, which will also be made available to you,and then I mix the ingredients together,it's pretty simple and once all the, ingredients have absorbed all of the, flour then I will go in with my hands, and combine it either even further this,is pretty simple but the the main part,of making unleavened bread is to make, sure you knead the bread for 15 minutes, now you may want to say I don't have to,knead the bread for that long because, that just takes too long it won't come, out right,it needs that 15 minutes and I'm gonna, illustrate how I would need it I would, set the alarm I was set the alarm the, timer and I would do this for literally,15 minutes and while you're doing this, you could be thinking about Jesus's love, for you his sacrifice is for you, remembering he's telling us to remember,to do this in remembrance of him and, once the bread the dough I should say is,combined for 15 minutes I just pretty, much need rolled it out on the pizza, stone, once it's needed out I mean rolled out,on the pizza stone to like a cracker, thinness I then take my for my knife and, then I will make little crackers little, lines horizontal and vertical on the, dough and these actually make the little, pieces of communion bread that we,consume here at Mountain OMA once that,is done I forgot to tell you you need to,pre-heat your oven for on to 400 degrees, that should be done before you start, making your communion bread and then, you're just going to put little holes, throughout the bread what the knife does,is it forms the crackers so when they, come out of the oven they break where, you have placed the the marks so now I'm,just going to put this in the oven on,450 and I'm going to keep it in there, for 12 to 15 minutes until the bread is,dry no visible wetness is found on the, bread and then you should have something, like this we have a little TV magic kind,of did it already for you so you can see,you just break it up,to the size that you like for your, church family and there you have it,communion bread unleavened bread we're,here at Mountain OMA we are adaptable, thank you

How To Bake Your Own Communion Bread

How To Bake Your Own Communion Bread

good afternoon good evening or good, morning whenever you view this video,uh church family we're here today, because we're preparing for,our communion service too often most of,us are,on the other side of the camera on the, other side of the room,uh we only come to church and we see the,uh emblems of the bread and the wine in,the plate and the receptacles, and we don't really understand the, process that goes behind it,um so we're here with sister sophie our, head deaconess, and she is going to explain how she puts, the ingredients together what the, ingredients are for, making of the bread this bread, symbolizes the body of christ, his broken body that was broken on our, behalf,of the wine symbolizes his shed blood uh,for the remission of our sins, and so as we go behind the scenes the, whole process is bathed in prayer, the whole process uh is uh in uh has the, holy spirit's presence in it and god is,filling this whole process it's not just,a random bunch of things coming together,it's thought out it's meticulous it's,coordinated,in a special way to ensure that we have, the most, spiritually uplifting time as we,celebrate, this service that god asked us to do as,often as we can,i got my mask here with me i'm going to,be behind the camera watching sister, sophie do her thing but, before we begin i just want to have a,word of prayer father,as we come together today to,prepare the emblems of your body, your shed blood we ask dear father you,be with us in this process,we want to thank you god for the willing, sacrifice that you made, and lord as our hands move and,uh interact with these elements father, may,it be a spiritually uplifting experience, for us,as our brothers and sisters prepare, their uh communion emblems dear father,at home we ask their god that you be,with them in that process as well too,and may this be a time that we draw, divinely closer to you,in jesus name amen sister sophie the, show,is yours thank you,i'm going to um briefly show you the, wine first,so the wine is 100,welch grape juice so this is the wine, that you're supposed to get,all right, all right so for our communion bread we,have, the flower now the flower is whole wheat, five roses whole wheat flour, the next ingredient is our oil you could, have, olive oil or any vegetable oil,and we have our salt sea salt, the fine grain sea salt,so this is the ingredients for the bread, now,we have the recipe, and this recipe that i'm doing today is,the five and a half cup recipe, now this recipe is for the entire, church um there's another recipe on here, that is,a one cup flour no that is for,a smaller group or family grouping so,um you will make a recipe according to,your needs, right so here it says, five and a half cup whole wheat flour,so what we're gonna do here so here's,the flour, the next part of the the ingredients, recipe is,one teaspoon salt, with 12 tablespoons of cold water,so i already have the measurement here, and the the water and the salt, are in the same container you use your, measuring spoon, and you measure the amount of salt, according to your portion of ingredients, and you would mix,the salt and the water together,it has to be cold water cold water, now you mix this out drain until it,dissolve in the water and here, for my five and a half cup flour i need, one and a half cup of the oil,the oil all right now,we're going to sift the flour into this, container it's important, that you sift the flour because of the, whole wheat grains that are in there,if you don't sift the flower it's when, you bake it it will be,uh too dark and heavy so you save some,of the whole wheat grains, starting like this you get a strainer, you pour some in,and you sift it like this take your time, you gently do it,um it takes patience, you sip it gently, and you keep on doing that process, until you can see the whole wheat grains, now the leftover the grains, put it in a separate container, and you leave it here, you continue the process, until all the sifting is complete,so can you kind of make a circular, motion you need to make a hole in the, middle,of the flower the dry ingredient, make a hole in the middle just like so,then it says pour, the water into the oil but do not stir,so here the oil is already measured pour,it into water, and pour all of it,do not stir do not stir okay,so remember the salt was mixed into the, water and dissolved, and the oil now is poured into the water,on the salty mixture now, pour it into the center the hole that i,made pour it into the center of the dry, ingredients into the flour, pour all of it,then this is very important take your, fork, and start working the flour, inwards, inwards into the door, you could turn the ball as you do so,work it in,keep on working gently, you bring it together you bring it into, the center, until all the dough is,down, now this takes a lot of,a lot of patience, you're working, you see someone like these or sophie, would show you one of those, whiffers and we would try to whip it out, fast, but this is a process that needs to take, its time this is the process because, you

Easy SDA Communion Bread Instruction

Easy SDA Communion Bread Instruction

you may have already heard but we here,at the henderson highway church, are planning to celebrate communion, service next sabbath, november the 14th during our worship, service, but due to covet 19 this year communion,is going to look a little bit different, than it,ever has before and that's why, today we are asking you to start, preparing, next week before the 14th of november,to have the stuff you need at home to,participate in the lord's supper with us,martin and i are here this morning to,show you,a fun quick easy and mess-free,way to make communion bread right in,your very own, homes and parents it's a,great way to involve your kids in the, communion,so the items you're going to need, are flour they recommend whole wheat, pastry flour, but if you don't have whole wheat pastry, flour you can use any flour that you, have in the house,it can be even gluten-free flour i've,been told, you will also need water, oil and you can choose which oil you, would like to use, some people like to use the olive oil it,does give it a little bit different, flavor,or you can use the canola oil which is,what i've chosen to use today, and we also have salt so those are the, items that you will need,so to begin i'm going to have my,assistant martin help me out,so the most crucial thing probably that, you, have right now is a ziploc bag a large, ziploc bag,and this is what everything is going to,be made in so that's why it's mess-free,so we're going to begin martin we've,by putting in the water now it calls for,one-third cup, water so you can pour that we've already,pre-measured it for,for this purpose and pour that into my,bag, next we'll add the oil so this, the recipe calls for one half cup of oil,and then we'll add one teaspoon of salt, foreign, all right now that we've got those three, items in martin,we're going to zip up our bag,and this is where some fun for you is i,want you to shake this bag,up until we have a nice milky, consistency in there,so shake it up,let's see is everything mixed in,looks pretty milky all right now that,we've mixed that together,we're going to add our two cups of flour, into the bag,and then we'll make some space here, martin i'm going to get you,to now knead it and mix it up you don't,need to seal all the way up because, you'll need a little bit of air so that, you can,now you're going to just squeeze the bag,and mix everything together, but don't squeeze it so hard it comes, out the top it's kind of like you want,to be the consistency of play-doh when, you're finished,so just play around with it neat and, that's right, work it in so that everything gets mixed, together, the recipe recommends you knead it for,at least a couple of minutes,so let's see,how we doing so you can kind of give it,some nice, some nice squeezes and then if you get, stuff up at the top you can kind of work,it back down, and squeeze it some more, important to make sure though you don't,squeeze it so hard you bust your bag, open, let's inspect it here so i think,so let's,move it down here a little bit a little, more squeeze, okay when you've got it thoroughly mixed, together, then they want you to,roll it into a log in your bag,so martin you're going to take it kind,of here at the bottom and kind of shape,it into a little bit of a log let's see,if we can move some of our dough down,it's not that important at this point, okay then you can roll up your bag let's,make sure we got some air so we can let,it out, okay squeeze it roll it up,now that you've got it rolled up as a,log you let it sit for about 20 minutes, well that's sitting you can prepare your, pan,so you need a cookie sheet and line it,with either some parchment paper,or some tin foil and you'll need to turn, your oven,on to 400.,now that the 20 minutes are over you can, unroll your bag,and then you will need preferably a,rolling pin if you have it,and we've got one here today and you're,going to proceed now martin to,roll out this dough inside your ziploc, bag, that's it go from you can go sideways, you want it to be completely filling the,bag make it thin enough that it's gonna,so,that's it,good job okay you got some space you can,see if you can move some more from down, below, there this is where the boys get to use, their muscles, don't come out the bag though okay now,go a little bit across, crosswise you want to make a nice,as even as you can square, let's see do we have a little air in,your bag so you can okay,go a little bit this way if you don't,have a rolling pin at home i'm sure you,can just do it with your hands but, okay now try to fill in this little gap, here going sideways, all right does that look pretty even, hold it up looks pretty even, all right so now we've got i'm just, gonna, run it over just one more time just to,test here, obviously you're making this for your, own family so,perfection is,all right now that we have our dough, rolled out in the bag,we're going to take our next step which, requires you either use scissors,i have kitchen scissors i wouldn't want,to say you use the, scissors that your kids use for cra
